  2. hi all, i am new owner of a 88 sunrader classic and completed the maiden voyage, with , one issue a thousand miles in, broke altenator belt had it repaired next day. but it has not idled right since i got it in florida a week ago. very low at start like it will and somtimes has stalled, i give it jus a lil gas and sit a min just get it in gear before it putters and take off after two to three mins of driving it will not stall and can sit in drive jus fine. When the rig is warm the idle is high in drive and a too high in park, kind of loud. Was thinking a possible fuel pump problem, clogging line? or 02 sensor and i dont have a manual but heard there is a throttle position sensor on 22re. Was going to get diagnostics ran on it but there are no engine lights on and dont drop a hundred if there is something i can check out first thanks for any suggestions
  3. hi all, thanks for the info, tips from your personal experiences and encouragement, i am flying from philly to pennsicola tomorrow and will really get road trip home goin monday morning after a spending first night in a florida state park, near the water. I am getting excited and wish i could have got a morning flight. I had a good shop check it over and spoke to the transmission shop who did rebuild they are a memeber but warranty not transferrable even for extra fee, they do the whole police fleet for tallahasse and dont have many come back, they take on freeway to verify conditon before calling customer for pick up, i feel confident in the rebuild and will check the extension housing bushing myself, probably gonna by a new spare in fort walton for 99- and got my goodsams membership in order, i am soexciteabout owning a toyhome and a sunrader at that.. i plan on spending the next couple monts moblile in different beachtowns along jerseyshore, spearing fish and jus livin ( ok not completely livin still pluggin to work everyday, jus clocking into a more laid back reality at the end of the day) so thanks for all the good luck and advice on my maiden voyage
  4. i am on verge of backing out due to the fact the the transimisson warranty 12m or 12000 miles cannot be transferred over with a 150 miles on rig i dont know how it the rebuild went and it would cost be big time if done incorrectly, also manifold intake sheild needs to be removed if a gasket its 400 if a stripped bolt, head needs to come out somthin im not willing to deal with, coulod be a good rebuild they do all police fleet in tallahasse but who knows, 150 miles. this is the rig i like minus the pink interior and rear dinette but if i dont make a 1200 mile trip home it could get ugly. same time a new tranny is a good thing, and if i can fight the fear i would like the rig jus expected a warranty on the tranny as stated, now no garantee and only hundred plus miles, any thougts
  5. The shop is having trouble locating tires for replacement, is there a site or distributor the board uses? Also having the tranny extension housin bushing inspected transmision rebuild 150 miles ago but warrant not transferrable gonna see if I can pay for it tho. When I drive it home can I do so leagally with their tags and regestration. While title is already signed in my name and temp INS id number?? Also in my name
  6. also the transmission was just rebuilt only a hundred miles and change ago any special way to drive, is there a break in period and most importantly i read about that bushing that wears in the cone shaped part, would this be replaced in a rebuit transmission? or do i need to get that tranny bushing inspected the rv is in the shop now and im going to be on the phone in the morning
  7. thanks for the wealth of information, will be taking advice and talking to shop in morning hopefully they know year of tires or can relay the codes, im going to have hoses replaced. How about a tune up? the shop didnt suggest it but said the iddle was low probably from not being used much lately but they didnt suggest one. the leak will hopefully be small but i want to know what the worst case scenario of a exhaust manifold leak. he said its nothing major now but leaks only get worse so it may be in the future. Other then that im feeling confident in the rig and sent a 1000 deposit via paypal does anyone know how available those tires are, if i did blow one and needed it replaced on the road? got samsclub membership and found airfare for a 105 with tax out of philly, i will def find out about transmission warranty it didnt cross my mind, i am going to skip a rv inspection, everything is in working order so ill be able to test it myself when i arrive, or is it worth it, 110 if i bring it in i believe. also on a lighter note new orleans is 198mi away, somewhere ive wanted to go this would also add a 100 miles to trip home, to risky? how about the mountains of virgina shenendoa im gonna hit(its on route home) long as the rig is runnin strong thanks all for replies,
  8. dont know much about exhaust systems, searched posts and have seen mufflers and pipes replaced and other exhaust components from 100-300 ... whats the worst case if i needed replacing ...garage going to check leak in morning when cold ..take a better look also the tires which i dont have the numbers till tomorrow they could not located today? apparently they are in short supply? also prob want to replace some radiator hoses
  9. i am looking at some new rear tires due to age and may go all around if the front are same model, seems garage cannot find replacement tires yet today, also there is a slight exhaust manifold leak .. there gonna check it cold in morning..radiator hoses seem to be orignal and should be replaced also... so i am looking at some cash to make this vehicle reliable for trip. this coupled with airfare, 1200 mile jorney and cost of repairs price of rig is climbing..won it on ebay for 6900 and need to send deposit tonight, a thousand dollar deposit which i dont know how to work out, being i will be paying for repairs to a rig thai if for some reason, like far from as described condition there would be a loss of deposit plus money spent on repairs. seems closer to eight grand to get it home, also i know sunrader a better design with fiberglass roof, am i geting a fair buy 88 sunrader classic dosent have the wrap around windows 86k tranny rebuilt 100 miles ago thought and they only owned it since november and put about a thousand miles overall a four hundred mile initial trip home when bought from texas a year ago on ebay for 6000 said they put about four in all together...im just nerveracked about getting stuck somewhere stupid, i did join samsclub today woohoo. oh yea all appliances work rear bath 22re no gen or awning 8-8500 im thinking will be cost to get it home reliably so.... any thoughts d
  10. thanks dianne, i was actually gonna overlook new tires they have decent thread but i dont know the age, an area i should not neglect with a 1200 mile trip, double what i wanted to travel really, but i am getting rv checked in morning and will have recommended repairs done, i didnt realize the tire year was encoded on sidewall so i thank you again and will have garage note tire conditoin
  11. Hi all New owner and have a 1200 mile maiden voyage from Florida to nj, I feel this is a good rig but sight unseen is nerveracking. What should I do to prepare for trip. Any online owners manual for 88? How about rv aaa? Thnx all
  12. thanks for your experiences and fixes, Moosepucky did you see the repaired part on the roof on the top right, i dont know what did that damage but maybe s heavy tree branch hanging down, i was thinking that a poss reason for the cracks in the window, they are very slight but am taking your advice seriously.
  13. hi all, i posted a similar topic with the same problem in general dis and posted pics of the stress cracks in window that is the reason for needing to be replaced, is an rv with a replaced window going to be a problem i didnt buy the rig as im doin thresearch first, i hear it is tempered glass and can be 400 dollars custom cut, i cant find a single topic on replacing this or any window on a toyhome, replacing lots of leak issues due to seals but i need to replace window or walk away and find a rig with a less important issue
  14. still on the hunt and negotiating on a 93 spirit, has no water damage yet as it is described as droplets more then a leak through stresss cracks on bottom center of large oval window. i am hoping water is not building in the wall, even a few drops at a time can add up. i need to replace that window, they have the gasket but have not done the work, i understand it is plexiglass. Will a reg auto glass installer be able to replace or is this best left to rv pros and the expert diy type that grace these forums. also no mileage reports for eight years or so, this im thinking is due to maybe some sit time? they dont know much about the history, im trying to get the rig for eight grand thanks for any replies on window and value mileage hist
  15. thanks for the replies, I acutually wanted the exclude the shady, from the title of this post but could not edit the title, i dont think the seller was shady, just changed all terms of aggreement, i am grateful that she did refund the 900.oo. thanks for the ref to the odyssey dennis, inever done well with a stick, but would appreciate the control i would have in the winter driving. And the ever illussive sunrader, i almost got the 86 with 18,000 orig miles for 8500 but worried about the five lug and the finding and updating to a six.. i drove a 22re, and am satisfied with the pickup, i also drove a 3.0 efi last week and am leaning towards the 22r more low torque and bulletproof rep. regards and good find dennis someone is prob already smilin behind the wheel
  16. i have to say i hope other people do comment also, thanks and i dont know about the way paypal works but it seems to pay with creditcard is then your best protection. I really wanted the rv and had sugg 2500 dp to commit to the delivery. I should not use the word shady really she has good feedback, she sugg she could keep my deposit entirely and i agreed on the loss, without checking into it, as i really just want to continue the hunt for a good rig i have been on the phone and ebay for two months, bid on three in that time,
  17. Well i iniated the puchase of a good looking rv, i told them i would buy it now for 8000. three things made me feel comfortable, 1, they stated 1000. deposit they deliver rv for cost of gas which meant they are sure it would make the long trip, peace of mind 2. they said there is absoultey no water damage, ever smell wrinkled walls etc, i asked again and again i want a dry rig and no 3. the seller willing to deliver made me feel confident in the quality of his description . after i agreed to buy she sent invoice stating she needs payment in fulll ** what changed from her listing where they were "happy" to deliver she tried to get me to send 2500!!! i agreed and thank god she couldnt change the downpayment number i sent a thousand, they said vehicle would be delivered overweekend i call the next day to see if they made travel plans donna says were gonna give you 300 so you and a friend can fly to gulfport and rv an go to new orleans I work for a railroad and make good money i havent extra time to take off, and all the things about the deal that made me confident were gone, there are a lot of nice rvs if you have the time to go pick them up. the TOPPER I PUT THE PICS OF OVERCAB BUNK ON MY 32" PLASM w hdmi cable AND I COULD THEN SEE CLEARLY YELLOW WATER STATINS DRIPPING FROM CEILING TO WINDOW IN AN AREA OF ABOUT 18" WIDE. I KNEW I COULD NOT TRUST A WORD OUT OF HER MOUTH SHE SWORE I WAS A LIAR UNTIL SHE PULLED THE PICS UP AND SAID "I SEE IT JAY BUT I DONT KNOW WHAT THAT IS" thankfully it did not cost me 8600. what do you think?? on their side they did keep in contact with me she did refund 900. out of 1000 and paypay cost me 26 im going to take it as a learning experience but there is a part of me that wants my refund i full do to the cricumstance above, esp water damage pics i had the right to end deal I
  18. hi all, i have already gotten a wealth of good info from this site, i got tired of the rv race decided what i wanted and bought it now for 8000, i got a 87 dolphin, i wanted the 22r efi as it is the best engine and i will be cruising flats and want the torqe for winter driving, i also wanted the rear kitchen setup, again just my prefs, hope i got a decent deal the miles are 87k everything working except the toilet flush is out... the part is available..not sure if i asked how much..just that it is in the toilet and not and internal problem in camper if that could even be possible.. the body looks fair to good its been cross country and they are delivering it to nj from ms, they have been wanting to see AC but offered to deliver in their ebay ad.. has anyone replaced or fixed these toilets is it possible diy how about cost?
  19. ok so i let this last rv go, now im onto another with very low miles but a previous leak that was fixed do these always reoccur, every season or couple years? anybody seal theres and have no prob
  20. ok i searched every post and the one that seemed to name the bullitn code is missing its attachment only so im going to call toyota and they probably am going to speak to someone who never even knew toyotas were used to power rvs . . this should be fun any help or phone numbers appreciated
  21. it is a relief to hear their is a soultion to the problem of freezing tanks, the strip heaters sound good as for the heater i would prob not have to run more then 8 hrs at a time and i dont like snowboarding when its under 20 degrees because the windchills are usually single digit and unless theres powder im not staying.. i will consider the limits of the toyhouse, insullation wise and how the unit i do purchase holds up,
  22. wow none of that sounds good, i want to use the rig for some ski trips vt, ny, to go where the snow is falling, i thought i read posts of people nice and toasty in their toys down to zero degrees i thought i saw. what temps can i use the unit in, are there treatments i can add to waste water to use toilet if norunning water? the heater is i believe a two function coleman ac and 17000 in 12,750 out forcec air btu the heater blows cold air, thanks for your post and the reality that this may not be a good winter rv, any models do better in the cold, or are insulated better thanks again
