  1. There is a 1988 4x4 sunrader for sale, see it in the free want ads. These are rare to see for sale. May be someones only chance to get thier 4x4 sunrader! Greg
  2. I am out there. I think everyone is watching the Daytona 500 today! Welcome to the group. Where are you at. I am in boulder creek, ca. Greg
  3. My water pump is so loud in the coach that I can hear it 50 feet or more away when outside. I tried putting some rubber betwwn it and the mount with no luck on making it quieter. Any one have a trick or should I be saving up for a more exspensive pump? Greg
  4. Paul Even though my 86 is a 4x4 the axle is on top of the springs. I will try and snap a couple of pics and post them. As for the frame rails being in a different place that does not make sence. Possibly the frame rail mount might be in a different location. That should be an easy fix though. Here are some links for Toyota Sway Bars http://www.addco.net/products/toyota.shtml More Probably late in the afternoon Sunday before I can get the pics up. Greg
  5. Larry I would say yes its probably right. With out the carpet as insulation the transmission heat will radiate into the cab. Auto transmissions can easily reach 220 degrees. Thats allot of heat. Greg
  6. Dave I got them thru JcWhitney. Mine is a 4x4 so thats what I orderd for. Not sure if the 2 wheel drives are the same bushings. Don't forget the special grease for them, I did not buy it and only realized it after I had things apart. I used disk brake grease only time will tell if it works right or not. Greg
  7. They are all pretty generic. The differences are types of fins, there are even some with electric fans. I gought one from Kragen Auto Parts. Actually took the first one back because even though it looked small to me it was to big. I had to get the smallest I could find. The ac condensor tales up allot of room in front of the radiator and I do not have enough room between the ac and the grill so the trans cooler had to be mouted low and to one side. You may have to remove the grill to measure for the biggest you can fit. I have also heard of a type that mounts on the frame rail. Was that temp (210) trans or water temp. I have a trans temp gauge and its not to uncommen for the temp to be 210 and higer in certain types of driving. For me I found cruzing down the freeway in overdrive at 65 mph to be the coolest running. But I have an A340F, yours is most kikely a differnt transmission so it will react differently depending if your torque converter can lock and unlock. Most 22rs do not lock but most V6 do lock. Hope that helps - yes put in a trans cooler, the biggest you ccan fit. Greg
  8. Hmmm, The picture loaded in its own window and took as long as apicture that size should take to download. So I don't know about the thumbnail. Almost like its creating the thumbnail on the fly. Greg
  9. WME Thanks It was actually an attatchment added via the file atatchment box. Attatchments are uploaded and stored on the toyotamotorhomes server where as an inserted photo is stored on a server other than toyotamotorhomes. Any file can be attatched. It took for ever for the thumbnail to load for me here with a 28.8 connection so my guess is when viewing the browser is downloading the attatchment in full and the thumbnail is just a reduced view and not really a thumbnail. I am going to click on the thumbnail after the page loads and see how long it takes to display the full image. Greg
  10. Hi Richard and Karen Thanks and welcome to the site! Congrats on your purchase . Sounds like a great rig! I also do not drive with the refer running on propane. I have a three way refer and so I run it on 12vdc on the road. I have a relay system that supplys power only when the igmition is on. You could possibly do the same using an inverter just make sure the relay is big enough to handle the current the inverter will need. I have read many questions from folks wanting to know if it could be done but I can not remember if anyone has actually done it. It takes alot of current to make it all happen and stock output altinators just are not up to it. My reason for using a relay also relates to current draw. It takes only minets to discharge the coach battery with additional current from the altinator even on the 12volt side. The 120 volt side needs even more because of the loss in the inverter. Another option some use is run the generator while driveing to power the 120vac side of the refer. Gas tanks have been another huge discussion topic. I'm lucky that I have a 26 gallon tank built just for the sunraders as an option. Finding a larger tank from a wrecking yard might be nill to impossible. JcWhitney I think has a larger tank. Another option is to have someone build one for you. No matter what option its expensive. Another consideration is the added weight. 10 more gallons is around 80 pounds. The extended range is worth the weight though. But maybe not if a tank costs $600. Greg
  11. Silicon is probably one of the hardest products to get completly off. And even if you do it can still be difficult to paint the area as microscopic parts get left behind which makes the paint bleed off. The rub methode is one of the best. There is a large erraser that is for cleaning belt sanders. Its big and can be shaped to a chisel point on the end. Somethimes if you can get the silicon dirty with something its easier to see and remove. A lesson here is never use silicon to seal around areas. Chances are it will not stick in places and leak, then you have to remove what did stick and hope another product will stick to the silicon you could not get off. Congrats on the purchase and by the way where are you located? Greg
  12. Thats it. I really mean thats the rig. Not just like that one that is the one Its just up the street. I can not tell about the rear axle but I do know there was a recall on the Nissans just like the toy axles for the same reason. Any how let me know if your interested and I will stop and take a look at it. Greg
  13. That s. Some of those deals you have to get there first. There is a Nissan Sunrader down the street from where I work for sale. Don't know the details though. Looks to be around an 84 or 85. Greg
  14. Some photos would be great! As far as the Sunraders being lighterI am not sure. They might actually be a bit heavier because of the way they are constructed. Go here for a Sunrader brochure showing the construction. Sunrader Classic Greg
  15. My two cents worth. If you can afford it look for something with at least a 22r fuel injected engine. Also find a floor plan you really like. We have a Sunrader, the pros are its all molded fiberglass with few places for leaks. Its aerodynamic in the front so maybe easier to drive because of that. Ours has a rear dinette with a great view out the back. Really easy to drive and park. Only drove a 21 footer once and it was ok but I could feel the side wind alot more. The cons, it took awhile for my wife and I to get a system down for moving around inside at the same time. The bathroom on our 18 footer is really small, no sink in there. The larger units benifit having a larger bathroom. Same for storage space, not much. Storage space can have an evil side though, just too much you don;t want to do with out and next thing you know the rig is over weight. I say stay away from the aluminum sideing rigs. Many of the newer rigs even though they look like aluminum its actually fiberglass. One of your main concerns is water damage. Pull the cusions, look in cabnits etc for water signs. Rot is one of the hardest to fix. The mechanical aspect of them is all easy compared to rot. P.S. Welcome, glad the manual entry worked. Greg
  16. Nolan Thats an incredible undertaking. Nolan's Monster Garage. You could give the discovery channel a run for its money. Wme What cam are you going to use and where are you getting it? Thats one thing I have wanted to do. I really need some more low end torque. The turbo has power when the turbo is spinning but at high altitude and a standing start its gutless. Greg
  17. Hey Nolan What kinda body changes are you doing? I keep dreaming that if I win the lottery I will build a new turbo engine, rebuiled the tranny, trick out the suspension and change the gear ratio front and rear. Any how got any photos of the work in proggress, I would like to post them on your page as an update! Greg
  18. Anyone planning winter projects for their toys. I have some wireing to do for the 12 volt side of the refer and I also plan on replacing the power converter with a modern up to date one that is better regulated and puts put pure dc voltage. Greg
  19. So now that its done do I feel a difference? Oh Ya, big difference in the corners. Have not yet verified that the passenger side inside dual is not rubbing on the frame but next trip down the highway I will spray some white paint on the tire and see what shows up. I still have to do the front of the springs and I plan on replacing all the rubber bushings on the sway bar etc with polyurathane. Greg
  20. Thanks for the compliments. I am not one to push people to using this forum. I set it up so that if a person wants to use it they can. No obligations. The yahoo forum has its advantages, one being each message can be viewed one after another. I have had problems with yahoo in that after a couple of days I can not find the start of a thread because it was started several days earlier and the context of the thread changed to a different subject. (Perhaps I should just have one category where all the messages are kept.) Same thing can happen here except the entire thread is always intact in its title and can be read from its source even if the content changes. I will have to say I do like the way yahoo can put every message one after another. As far as I know I can not do that. When ever a message is replied to it goes to the top of the list in that forum. I suppose one other big advantage here is folks can post images if they can upload them to a server somewhere. They just have to use the image button and specify where the image is (url) and all can see it. I do not have the disk space to host everyone?s image they might want to have displayed. I hope to soon have some instructions on how to post images, just have not had the time to create it. Being able to include emotions, avatars and signatures can be a great plus. But who?s counting. Greg
  21. Here is a link to a petition asking Yahoo not to charge for groups usage. Petition I found this forum talking about group connection problems with Yahoo. Looks like Yahoo is locking people out of groups for overuse. Here is the link for those interested and if you have experienced problems with groups or email. Click here Here is another link regarding yahoo charging to use the groups. Click here Greg
  22. Hey Mr.D I hear ya. I think not that many know about it. I am getting ready to get it placed better on the search engines. I have a log that showed that googles spider was here but I still do not see it in the search engines. Greg
  23. david.brenda.morrow emailed me some photos of his torsion bar. See them below. From what I can see it looks like a misalighnment issue. My 86 4x4 has the axle on top of the springs and a longer shackle assembly. Greg Remember, these are photo's of david.brenda.morrow rig.
  24. Thats a picture of my motorhomes rear shackles and spring. Its a 1986 SR5 4x4 Sunrader 180RD with a 1 ton full floating rear axle. All installed by Toyota. Can't imagine it breaking. You could have too much side to side movement because of bad bushings. My bushings were so bad that the right rear inside dual would rub the frame on hard corners. Is your bar as big as mine. I do not know if mine is a toyota stock or aftermarket but it apears to be bigger than stock 4x4's. You may just had the bad luck of having two bad ones with nothing else wrong. Mine is a 1 ton version for the 4x4 axle. The photo below shows the bushings being replaced but also the top and bottom of the sway mar attatchments. If you look at the top rubber bushing for the sway bar you can see how it is deformed over to one side probably due to axle shift because of the bad spring bushings. As soon as I can find them I will replace the sway bar rubbers with neoprene. Greg
