waiter Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 Three things will cause the Brake Light to come on. 1) Parking brake - make sure the parking brake handle is all the way in (pull the handle a little to disengage the ratchet, twist the handle 90 degrees, then slowly let it in until its against the stops. Push in a little to make sure its at the end stop. 2) Fluid Level in reservoir. Toyotas have a little float switch on the brake reservoir, make sure the reservoir is full. (If the level is low, Add fluid, but you really need to look at your pad wear, low level is also a symptom of pad wear) 3) Front / Rear Differential pressure. There is a significant pressure difference between the front and rear brake systems. i.e. no front or no rear brakes. The first thing I recommend doing when purchasing any used vehicle, pull all four wheels and inspect the brakes. (repack the bearings and grease the front end while you have things torn apart) Quote
doghouse Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 Add fluid only a little down can make the light come on. I also had a small bunge cord that held the parking brake lever down on the button. The bunge can loose its tention and the light can blink off and on and stay on sometimes. If you hold the lever down and the light goes off that might be the problem. Quote
