  1. I'm looking a purchasing a 1987 23" EZ-Rider on a Toyota Frame with 4cy engine. The engine has 57,000 on it, and I'm having the complete running gear checked out by a Toyota dealer. It appears all original inside the cab and camper (matching interior).

Their asking $6000. Does anyone have an opinion on that price? Also, what do I need to watch our for on the camper? Was the EZ-Rider camper a good quality product? The stove, refer, heaters, etc, seem to work fine, all the lights work. So, other than firing each one up to test it, what else should be done?

The local camper store wants $250 for an inspection, but I'm sure I can do the same if I know what I'm looking for. I've read about rear axle problems, but this has a dual axle that looks good. Shocks look to be worn out, but that is an easy fix. Are air-shocks worth the expense in the rear?

Any advise anyone can offer is appreciated. Thanks.

    Nick,

I believe $6K is probably a very good price. if it checks out. I'm not familiar with EZ's or the dual axle models.

However, Tika, over at Toyota-Campers owns a 1986 model she purchased in 2001 at $6000 but I don't believe it has a dual axle. In her posts, she says she really loves hers. Here is a link if you want to read her experience.

  2. I'm having problems finding new tires to replace the LT195/75x14 8 ply rated tires that were on the motor home when I bought it.

It's a 1990 Itasca with dual rear wheels.

Does anyone out there have any suggestions ?

    Hi Bill,

As others have said, the 185 R14 is generally used on Toyota motorhomes and are available at the dealers shown below. The folks that use 195's have noted that you must keep them inflated properly to prevent (rear duals) rubbing together.

    Check with http://www.tirerack.com/indexA.jsp?s_tnt=10037:1:0

    or Discount Tires.

edit: Tire Rack has Yokohama and Continental Vanco in D range

  3. The Toyota Campers Yahoo group does not list a Rockwood in the known manufacturers database.

True about database however, if you do a message search on "Rockwood" at the Yahoo group, you find there are 2 or more owned by members. Checked photo's but couldn't find one. Here's one link to a message

  4. I'm looking at an ad for a 1992 Rockwood Toyota mh. The pic is not good so I can't tell much about it. I'm looking at a 4 hr drive to see it and was wondering if any one here has ever heard of one or know anything about one. I've seen a lot of Toys and have a Huntsman but have never heard of Rockwood except the BIG ones. He can't make more pics til the week end and I've looked everywhere on the net for pics of one, with no luck.

    Thanks,

    Cathy

  5. The spark plug ordeal; when I replaced one of the spark plugs it brought half of the threads with it. But I was able to get the new one in tight enough that everything was ok, afterwords I took it on a 300 mile round trip without a single problem and got 25mpg fully loaded. So the next time the spark plugs need to be replaced this issue would have to be addressed but otherwise should be fine I have replaced all the shocks and did a full tune-up on it. Also put a new valve cover gasket on it. I was extremely surprised how very clean it was on the inside. I was just kind of throwing this topic out there too see if anyone would be interested at all if not I wont cry because I do love this camper. I do have a bunch of inside pics that you can access by going to my profile and clicking on the gallery tab and then view all gallery files. If you really want I can take some pics of the outside, let me know what you think.

I found an album of your cute daughter but no others.

  6. I'm kind of just throughing this out there but my wife is pregnant again so i dont think the good old chinook is going to be big anuf for us anymore and I was wondering if anyone would be interested in trading me for a little bit bigger camper. Details to be discused of course, other than the spark plug ordeal it is in very good shape and gets about 25mpg. I just replaced the carpet and upholstery. If this is anything that would be possible at all let me know that you may be interested. I may even be open to just selling it I'm not quite sure yet. Tell me what you think.

I think I would like to see some pics and hear some more about the spark plug ordeal.

  7. I finished the carpeting of the storage bench, walls, and the closet. Looks vastly better. The cushions are going in this week for some grey tweed material. I'll post up the pictures when done. Im at 95% completion as of now. Id estimate about 100 hours so far and counting. Last thing to do is replace the front window and finish the floor trim work.

    Looking good Buick

I'm curious about the carpet on the walls. Is that the indoor/outdoor carpet I see at Home depot that's not super thick? Did you glue it or staple it to the wall?

It appears that you removed the windows so the carpet will fit under the window flange.
