That''s the one I had on my Winnebago View. It worked great. Had to replace the impeller once. but other than that, worked great. The price is about $100 less than I paid for it. Be sure and rinse it so you don't have buildup on the impeller. I used Angel Soft toilet tissue. I did an experiment and that broke down better than other brands and it is way cheaper than RV tp.

  2. Been looking at wireless backup cameras with rear view mirror monitor. Man have they become cheap! Lots to choose from.

    Question #1:

    Any recommendations?

    Question #2:

My license plate is on the left side of the rig, beside the factory rear storage box. How will this effect the view from the camera? I see they are attached to center mounted license plates. Ideas?

    Thanks,

  3. Great pics! How much is the ferry from Ketichikan to Prince of Whales Island. If you get to Coffman Cove look up my good friend, the Mayor, Bryce Brucker and tell him Rick sent you.

thanks I haven't been on here in a while . would like to know more about the sewer solution

It works great, see video above. I used to have an electrical macerator in my Winnebago View but could not fit one in my 87 Sunrader. Got the Sewer Solution and it works great.

Been a while since I've been here.  We just finished up a 1.5 year trip from the east coast to the west coast, down as far as the southern tip of Baja California, and up as far as Vancouver island - some 40k miles of full-time RVing in our Escaper.  I guess it depends on what you're looking for.  We always tried to find free places when we could - we're pretty self-contained and we traveled a lot - seldom stayed out boondocking for more than a week, so no hookups works well for us.

We made excellent use of several apps - some free, some paid - here are our top 5.

Our #1 "go to" app - Ultimate Campgrounds - public campgrounds - many free - worth every penny. You can check out their web based version at ultimatecampgrounds.com.  Ted is great about accepting feedback, suggestions, and new site submissions.

Gas Buddy - free, also used nearly every day - saved a ton on gas, especially in California where we found prices could vary as much as $0.75 per gallon within 1/2 of a mile of each other just off the Interstate.

Public Lands, especially good for making sure the free BLM site you just discovered really IS  BLM and not private - about $5 IIRC

All Stays - about $10 - great for finding private and public campgrounds, casinos, dump stations, etc. It's probably the best overall with some overlap with Ultimate, but we used them both and found many sites that were only in one app or the other.

Sani-Dump - pretty much obsolete for Android, still works on iPhone and on web site.  We submitted a few and never saw them included, so no idea how up-to-date it is.

We don't pay for campgrounds often if we can help it - can't afford to do it for this long if we did - but we also joined Passport America.  We paid for our membership in the first two weeks of our trip by staying a few nights at a CG just outside of Montreal near the last commuter train stop - great for going in to see the city.

One last thing - absolutely the best investment we made for the trip was getting an Inter Agency Senior Pass (https://www.fs.fed.us/visit/passes-permits/recreation-fees-passes)  At 62 and older, you pay a one time $10 fee for a lifetime pass.  This will get you and everyone in your vehicle free admission to national parks (including Yosemite, Yellowstone, Sequioa, Arches, etc.), and pretty much any national recreation area (except Mt. Rushmore), 1/2 price camping at most National Parks, Corps of Engineers, Forest Service, etc. campgrounds.

    Cheers.

Thank you for your very thoughtful and helpful post! I have also spent a couple of years in my Winnebago View following a similar path to tip of Florida, British Columbia, and to the tip of Baja twice. I plan on taking "Casper" down to Baja in March.

I found an amazing bargain that I want to share with you and this group. I found 1,000 Trails and talked them into a 1 year contract including BC, Washington, Oregon and California for $500. Blew my mind. I had calculated on the outside spending $30/night which amounts to a whopping $900/month. Not for everyone I am sure, but with how we will use our RV this is a great find. I appreciate the boondocking and fuel sites, will use them also. The Agency Senior Pass is a must have. Thank you so much! First one is on me!!

there are portable macerator  pumps you can get they screw on the dump valve  and hook up to the battery with clips like a battery charger. I            t    hink they come in 120 volt too. I heard of a guy made one out of a kitchen garbage disposial. must had one laying around those arnt cheap but factory built ones not eather

Thanks, I have now used the Sewer Solution and it works great!! There is a bit more work than with my old one that was hardwired in the sewer compartment, but it seems to work as well and WAY CHEAPER.

  8. I appreciate all the good thinking here. Thank you for your time and consideration.

I have purchased replacement LED bulbs for all lights, save for the florescent bulbs, not sure what to do with those. I did that in my previous motor home and could not believe how much it effected battery power usage!

I have also purchased a Yamaha EF1000iS, 900 Running Watts/1000 Starting Watts, Gas Powered Portable Inverter, CARB Compliant. It fits perfectly in my factory carrying box on the back. Simply padded the front and back for security. The Yamaha starts on the first pull and is much quieter than I had anticipated.

Thanks, I found the replacement info. These require a different mounting grommet. I need to do replacement for two reasons. Back up lights out, lots of excess sealant on rear taillights, and need to install a rear view camera and this will provide access to wiring, with new screws etc.

you've got the Sunrader and the generator. turn something, like fridge on 12 volt,  on and keep an eye on the battery until it's down to where you think you might deplete it. Then plug into your generator and see how long it takes. Charge time depends on the output of your charger. Don't know if you plan on using the one in your converter/ charger or not but that's the easiest way. Real world is so much better than reading what someone else says. Your looking for 90% charge. The last 10% will take forever or maybe never. batteries are weird like that

Hi Judy! I was thinking about trying to get one going out here (possibly for the eclipse?) as well without much interest or reply. We are living about 1 hour north west of Olympia on the 101 for the summer would be awesome to get something going! Is anyone else interested??? Not much of a rally just two rigs haha. That Chinook looks sweet, they are such cool rigs congrats! I work at a campground so I could organize a large group camp site possibly depending when (maybe august?) and how many want to join/ contribute. Open to having it somewhere else besides where I work though:)

You can just send me a PM if ya want to try and get this going!

We will be up on Hood Canal Aug 21st. Interested in meeting others from this group.

So I was looking into this today as well by happenstance. Didnt run into anything cheap. BUT, here is the difference, I am contemplating a lithium battery for the house part. These come in two main varieties (there are a hundred differences but for practical purposes you could say two types). First is a drop in replacement. Thanks electric golf carts! And second is a simple battery with charger controllers and all sorts of boondoggles.

Either way, 30ah drop in replacements seemed to be only about 200 dollars. I see this as a good way of putting batteries in the coach without having to use that space under what used to be the sofabed and will now be simply floor space.  A lithium battery, charger, so on can just hide in a small closet in the coach under the dinette or whatever. Or so it would seem.

It doesnt take away the need for solar panels (seems like $100 per 100w), charge controllers and all that battery management stuff.  But it adds to the roomyness of the coach. And they seem to last a lot longer than deep cycle if maintained properly.

Re. solar with just existing deep cycle, or with one 30ah type generic deep cycle a 100w system should come to no more than 200-300 dollars -- install yourself.  Was it much cheaper?

Thanks for weighing in on this. It's complicated. Looks like I need to do what Linda and WME said about calculating use ergo need. And then calculate based upon that. It may be that a small generator or relying on the truck alternator may be a good way to go and forgo the need for solar....still a work in progress for me.

Unless you use a lot of other power your cpap machine isn't going to use up all your battery overnight. About 20 amp hours worth.

here's an example of what you will get out of a 100 wt panel on the bright sunny day. Means you have to camp in full sun though

How many amp hours 100 watt solar panel?
This will give you an average of five (5) "peak sun hours" per day. A 100 watt panel produces an average of about 6 amps per peak sun hour, or about 30 amp-hours per day.

A small light weight generator run for a few hours would give you more charge and you get to camp in the shade for comfort.

No link to the Amazon system so can't tell if it has everything you would need like the charge controller

Thanks for your very informative and helpful response. I appreciate your thinking about this. I purchased a Yamaha EF1000iS, 900 Running Watts/1000 Starting Watts, Gas Powered Portable Inverter and thought this might be a good way of dealing with battery drain using cpap during the night.

I have been thinking about how long it would take the truck's alternator to rebuild batteries during the day, so far it sounds like 2-3 hours of truck running to charge the 12 volt deep cycle house battery. I have also been considering the relative value of solar to accomplish this and it looks like from your post that it would take about 5 hours of sun exposure to accomplish this via solar.

Any idea how long it would take the generator, Yamaha EF1000iS, 900 Running Watts/1000 Starting Watts, Gas Powered Portable Inverter to accomplish the task.

I feel rather out of my depth with issues like this so I really appreciate the input. My graduate degree is in Social Work, a 50 year career in the field, and I never took a class on this!

Thanks again for your very thoughtful response.

Put on your Merlin hat its time for magic math.

    1. What size is your house battery?? a 24, 27 or 31. That will tell you how many Amp Hours you own.

    2. Some where on your CPAP power supply it will tell you how much power it draws, usually amps or watts.  Side note do you run your CPAP off of 12v or are you using an inverter to make 110v and using the normal house power supply??

    3. What size is your 110v converter/charger??

My MH is a 30ft Class A and it has electric everything, tv, 2 radios, 2 powered vent fans and 14 light fixtures + my wifes CPAP. I'm using 2 - 31 class AGM batteries for a 200 AH capacity. I really don't know how much power we use, just when the sun goes down my batteries are 100% charged.

After you answer 1&2 then we can talk intelligently about what size solar setup you will need.

#3 will tell you how long you would have to run a small generator to recharge your battery....assuming you answered 1&2.

    WME

Outstanding!!! Thank you!!! Great questions! I like your way of framing this.

I will check these questions out.

I use 12 volt for the cpap when not plugged into 110 volt shore power.

What do you intend to use all of that power for?

Good and essential question. I use a cpap at night and want to be able to boondock. I am not certain how much power I need or if I need to add 2 deep cycle batteries or if a smaller solar unit would charge this up doing the day when I have used the cpap all night.

    Thanks for your interest.

I just ran into this on amazon, incredibly cheap!! 100 watt system. Is there more that I would need to have this installed? Would it charge my single 12volt house battery if it ran dry over night using my cpap?

    Iflyfifshwithsolarflies

  18. I am considering putting solar on my '87 Sunrader. It looks like I will need about 200 watts. Has anyone with a Sunrader installed solar? How much did it cost? I presume I will have someone else install these. I assume I will need (2) deep cycle 6volt batteries. Will I need a new Charger?
