  1. Do anybody know where I can find one of the Phillips bolts that holds the bearing lock nut in place.  There was only one of them there when I pulled out the axle.  Someone had used a different style (regular) bolt to replace the original and maybe that is why I'm doing this job again.  The original threads into both holes fine, but I can't find another that will work.  Napa gave me a couple bolts with the same thread and lenght,  it threads in fine, but stops 1/4 inch before going all the way in, probably because it does not have the pointed/tapered tip.

  3. Sweet, I found the outer seal on the axle.  I didn't get any races with the bearings from the parts store and how come they only gave me 2 bearings total for both sides? Am I supposed to re-use the old outer bearings and just replace the inner?  Sounding like I may be in for another trip to napa! Much thanks! I'd be totally lost without your help!

  4. Do you think that chewed up metal deal will be ok or do I need to replace it somehow?  Do I just drive in a new bearing and seal and make sure to get the bearing lock nut and plate in correctly?  I got and outer and inner seal, I see where the inner double sided seal goes, but where does the outer seal go?  What kind of grease do I lube the bearings with?  I have never worked on drum brakes, or axles and bearings before and have no idea what im doing.  I can't find ANY info on this job with this particular axle.  Any links or what words do I search for to find info?  Thanks for your help!

  5. I am finally starting this job after studing the info y'all gave me in my last post. I have got it on Jack stands and blocked up, drained the rear diff and removed the wheels.  I am stuck in how to remove the parking brake clip/cable from the drum.?  It is totally different from the ones I saw on you tube.  Much thanks in advance.

It's not uncommon for the axle seals to fail.  Need to pull axles and install new seals. I would do both sides. Also good time for brakes if needed

Thanks.  what does pulling the axles mean? I searched and didn't have much luck finding any info, probably user error.  Could anyone provide a link with info on how to pull the axles and part numbers ect? That would be awesome because I've never messed with repacking bearings or  pulling axles much and it's a little intimidating sounding.  I have done my own brakes a bunch, but never duallys.  This is a dumb question but, I have only replaced brake pads that go in a caliper    then onto the rotor.. is this something different like drum brakes? Is there pads and caliper deal?

So I was noticing the smell of gear oil when walking beside the camper on the drivers side, but didn't see anything obvious.  I took her for a little trip and now I have a substantial amount of grease/ gear oil leaking from the rear drivers side hub that has coated my rims with grease and there is a puddle of grease sitting in the bottom of the rim and running out onto the ground!!  I've never seem anything like this and am assuming that it is some kind of rubber seal that has deteriorated?  It would be so great if someone could help me figure out what's going on here and how to fix it.  Thanks so much!
