  1. Is there anyway to decipher if it's the alternator or regulator not working?
  2. I have 1978 Odyssey. I was driving back from a short camping trip and went to stop for some gasoline. Turned down my a/c and brought her into station. Filled her up. Started her up and noticed something wrong. The CHG light started glowing when I started her. Then I noticed that even though my emergency brake was engaged, the light was off. Also my gas gauge wouldn't go up correctly. I was still able to start her and drove her back 30 miles but the CHG light was on the entire time. I have no idea what's going on. The alternator is a year old so I don't think that's it. Most of the electronics is working, like the radio, turn signals and such when I drive with her. The A/C though is definitely not working though but it was also changed replaced last year. Could it be the belts are lose? Was wondering if anyone could help me diagnosis! Thanks!
  3. Alright I found this in my Toyota pick-up manual that I downloaded some time ago. And I found this picture below showing how the horn circuit works. I can't figure out why my horn isn't working. I thought the culprit is the wire going into the horn, but according to this diagram, if Im reading any power going into the wire at steering wheel for the horn buttons, then power should be circulating through the whole system. I've checked for corrosion and that doesn't seem to be the problem..... I have definitely tested the horn and hardwired it to the battery and it does indeed honk. I really don't know what could be wrong with this whole system. This is very frustrating.
  4. Hazards are working... I'll trace the wires... I can't imagine it getting snagged by a bolt since I didn't add anything since the last time it was working... though maybe it's just old...
  5. Yeah I hard wired the horn to my car battery and yes it does blow...
  6. Yes this is how my horn buttons look like. Yes I have tried to ground the wires in the steering wheel manually, like putting the wire staight to the ground column and the horn does not blow. That is why I am saying there is no power going to the horn at the front of the vehicle because when I ground the horn wires, nothing happens... Also I checked to see if power is coming from the wires at the front of the car where the horns are and I don't get any readings. So I am assuming the problem is one to do with the wiring???
  7. I will post some pictures tomorrow... I think I'm probably not explaining myself well here....
  8. Wouldn't there be power circulating so that when the horn gets ground then the horn will go off? When I mean steering column, there is a wire going to the buttons that when compressed will complete the circuit. The wire at this point on the steering wheel has power going to it. When I go over to the horn, and check the wires to see, if when the horn button is depressed, that the power goes through it, I am reading that there is no power. I guess I can check the brake light but I am pretty sure it's working. The fuses don't have any breaks it in when I pull them out. Maybe I'm missing something I don't know....
  9. Last year I posted something about a broken horn and now, sadly my horn is broken again. I've tested steering column where the horn buttons are for power. It's showing 12v so I know power is going from there. However, the wires that connect the horn in the front of the car, is not showing power. So I know something is faulty with the power going from steering column to horn with the wires. I checked the fuses and they all seem to be fine. What do you guys suggest I do? I'm looking at the wiring and its quite complicated. Looks like spaghetti. Please help! Thanks!
  10. http://portland.craigslist.org/mlt/rvs/4433812096.html She's a beauty! Looks great and I think for the price not bad.
  11. I put it all together. Works great and cost me about 35 bucks!
  12. Well the way my monitor works is that it doesn't actually turn on until it receives a video signal. Not sure why that is just the way it is so I am not as concerned about the monitor receiving power from the ignition. The way I want to rig it up is actually I have a couple of mostly useless floor lights in the back of my cabin that has a switch up at the driver's seat. One light was already disconnected when I bought it. I was going to connect it to that so I can turn on my back-up camera even when I'm driving and that might be nice if I'm in a high traffic, big city area. Nice to be able to see behind me not just for backing up. Though it's pretty easy to access my tail light just nice to be independent of that if I want.
  13. Hi guys, I'm installing a back-up camera into my toy. I am half way there, probably more than half. I've taken out my after market car radio of my toy so I can tap into the power source to power my small monitor for my back-up camera. I know the diagram, red (switch power) and black (my ground). I will splice connect my monitor with the switch power and I would like to do the same with my ground. Theoretically I believe this should work but I am not 100% sure. Just wanted to double check and see if anyone knows a little more than I do about this. Thanks!
  14. The guy who used to own my 78-79 odyssey put a wall A/C unit in the kitchen window. He would remove the window when camped out and install it in, then take it down when on the road and put the window back. The window is held with screws and then insulated. I haven't done that myself and he must have insulated it back when he sold it cause my kitchen window is leak proof.
  15. I love my Toy but I AM SO JEALOUS RIGHT NOW! Nice vehicle!
  16. I removed the toilet successfully! I was able to patch up the leak but accidentally broke this female coupler. It looks like this. http://www.rvpartscountry.com/RV-Female-Coupling.html . I went to the hardware store and just replaced it with a regular white pvc coupler but, I noticed the generic one just has a straight through hole. The RV female coupler has something inside. Does anyone know whether this affects the system in anyway. I noticed my toilet now just keeps pumping water through, Of course when I turn off the water pump, it stops but if I didn't, I believe the toilet would just want to continue to flush endlessly. Does anyone know? Otherwise I might have broken something else in the process of fixing it. Thanks!
  17. My toilet is the original 1978 Toyota Odyssey toilet but I have no idea what make or brand that is. It's not like its labeled on the toilet. It looks like I will need to replace the valve but not sure what valve to get....
  18. This spring I found a leak in the pipe that leads up into the toilet. I have identified the cracked portion but it's pretty far behind the toilet. I am hoping I might be able to replace the part without having to remove the toilet completely from the RV but I'm worried that I might not be able to get behind there. Does anyone have experience with this? Should I remove the toilet? If so how do I even do that?
  19. Well when I plug the RV into the house I can plug my laptop in just fine. Oh I didn't know the engine runs the cabin power as well. But yes I guess that makes sense since the engine recharges the deep cycle battery...
  20. I know the topic sounds ridiculous..... I am working on a project where during the course of the day, I'll need to use my laptop to dump video footage on to my hard drive. I do not have a generator in my RV unfortunately. She's an old model didn't come with one. Has anyone ever charged their laptop using the reserve on deep cycle battery. The extent I've used my deep cycle battery is for cabin lights and water pump. What kind of appliances have others found possible to use on their deep cycle battery? Thanks!
  21. How do you power the camera? Did you do wiring through the taillight? Or just run it through that PVC pipe? I would like to install one through the cabin and draw power through there but I do not want to be powering this camera, even when the engine is not running. Anyway have some suggestions what would be a good way to do this?
  22. What kind of tow would one recommend for saying pulling a scooter? I know some tows you need to register with the DMV others you do not based on size. I think it's better to pull weight then to carry it on the back axle. I've been curious since I have a small Toy...
  23. Did you do any winterizing at all? I just blew my pipes, drained tanks, and dumped anti-freeze down in the drains. I hope that will suffice. But it has been ridiculously cold in OR. I decided to sleep inside the RV with a 1600W space heater in single degree temperature for fun. Someone said they keep the space heater on during the winter, even when not in use. I can't imagine it doing anything in single degree temperature. Things still will freeze!!
