  1. I'm not familiar with these coaches, but they probably have a bit of skirting below the actual floor? I might suggest that if/when you do have a hitch built, that you might explore fabricating one that passes right through the bumper if possible rather than under it to help with clearance issues.

I might be inclined to remove the bumper and all of its extension hardware, build the hitch as high as I could and then custom attach the bumper to the hitch. This may mean having to cut into your skirting a bit.

  2. Dear friends, I want to have my 91 warrior frame be reinforced to be able to tow some trailer with me. It is a 21 foot toy . i know that some of you have done it. Do I have it extended from the main frame of the truck(obviously) . I mean what kind of hardware do I need and how are they welded to the frame. Will have a shop doing it.

Thank you in advance for your feed backs

  3. So how about a summary of what you ended doing to solve the problem?

I ended up detaching the cable from the cluster by a screw driver and a small vise grip ( a tip from the Toyota forum) . It came out slowly and had a lots of resins hardened in there. Cleaning the cable (and I noticed that the cable was attached inside next to the gas pedal. But I didn't have to take it apart and change the cable so saved 116$ in these hard times.

I put some lube and as you said it came out the other way (after a long time) Then put them back together(was easy) . Now it is quiet.thumbup.gif

  4. "The graphite lube that I used made for speedo cables came in a tube mixed with alcohol. The alcohol carried the powdered graphite all the way to the other end of the cable. The alcohol evaporates leaving the dry graphite inside to lubricate the cable. Disconnect both ends and pour it in from the top. When it comes out the bottom end, you know that the entire length got lubricated."

    Thank you very much.smile.gif

  5. You want to be very careful before lubing a speedo cable with and oil or grease. The problem can be that the cable turning inside the housing can 'pump' the lube up the cable into the speedometer. Basically, it's an 'Archimedes screw/pump/wheel'.

Often, the recommended lube for speedo cables is powdered graphite. Sometimes mixed with alcohol (which evaporates).

Thank you , do you know where i can find that? And is it thin enough to go around the inner cable?

  6. The spedo drive end would not mind a small bit of lube the Triflow waiter suggested is good stuff.

    Hi,

I tried to put some lube (Liquid wrench chain lube that says for any chain or wire cable on it) that was suggested in Auto zone. But it seems that the liquid won't drain into the cable at all because of resin accumulation around it. I poured some alcohol in it to soak in over night and do some thing tomorrow. We will see. What ever lube that I can use must have low viscosity since it won't drain into the cable. Do you happen to know of any? Buy the way i plan on having the drill to run for a while on it so most of the lube come out.

  7. The spedo end is square it slides right back in with a little turn but the trans end has to line up it's a neat fit generally the best way is to pull the cable out a bit line it up to the trans end and push the outer housing inward. I think there is a clamp attached to the top bolt on the transmission that holds the cable.

Great, i was able to detach it from the cluster with the aid of a small vice grip and a screw driver. it is brownish inside so i have to find some denatured alcohol and clean it first and then put lube in it and try it to see if it makes noise any more.

Good i have some thing to work with now.

Thank you and every body very much. i will post the results later.

  8. The spedo gear is fixed it won't come out there is a slot in the gear and a key on the cable they will have to line up to get the cable back in. It was originally lubed with a light grease like white lube it needs no more then a light coating.

That might be it. I have to use a strong flash light and a mirror to find those marks on the cluster and the cable end. Thanks

But how on Earth can you detach the cable from the fire wall. I have detached two clams that I can see but there seems to be another one inside fire wall! I have jacked up the car on the passenger side may be I have to jack it up on the other side as well and and look from the other side. It seems that it goes on top of the transmission where you can't reach it .

I put some lube into the cable and turned it counterclockwise with a drill . The noise is still there . But some time when I pull a little bit with the drill while turning the noise goes away.

  9. I don't know how Toyota is constructed, so take with a grain of salt. I took a brief look at th eFSM but couldn't find anything obvious (I may look again if I get time later)

I'm thinking if you disconnect from the trans, there may be a small gear on the end, be very careful, the cable may (I believe) slide out of the sleeve.. if so, you shoul dbe able to whip it with a lube (i.e. Triflow) and then slide it back in the sleeve.

    Good luck

thanks, i was able to get the cable elevated above the cluster(with an aid from a friend) Now i am going to go to Auto zone and see what kind of lubricant they have . Hopefully what you guys suggested.

  10. soory i never had a cable out execpt the 1970s era can not advice. if it comes of at speedo shoot lube in top it will run down in side.

Yes it makes sense to do it from the top so that you won't short out the circuit board on the cluster. But the thing is not cooperating and I can't get it off from the cluster. There is a chance that the loud noise is coming from the cluster itself because the sound is very superficial. .

  11. They are a bear but it will come off there is nothing to rust or bind it's just the tab, it pushes in. The cable is at a pretty good angle so that does not help either.

Well I tried again today . It didn't come off, Went to Napa and looked at the one they had. Very similar and simple. My thought is that the inner cable is some how worn out and is grabbed by some thing in the cluster. The other problem that I have is that on the other side of the cable near transmission i have separated it but when i follow it toward the cluster it goes places under the dash that I can't get to so that I can release it from the firewall. How many clamps are holding this cable to the body and how would you approach it? If i could get the cable loose and above the cluster then i can put some lubricant in it. I read that some body did that but "how "I don't know.

    Thanks.
