What did you end up paying / what amperage output?

I think I paid close to $300. Output varies but the highest I got was about 120A when running AC on the giant inverter (measured with my own amp meter) I also had to replace the belt as it uses smaller pulley to get higher RPM for idle charging current. I also had to replace the stock cable with #2/0 welding cable.

It was a lot of work and I don't think I would do it again.

The guy from the site was very helpful

  2. I wouldn't!

HG failure often does not happen immediately. If you have time to spare and are concerning; you can try the compression test, leak down test, and testing for combustible gas in the coolant system to filter out any sign of HG failure.

I tend to stick with the original HG from factory unless it fails.

    My 2 cents!

I found an amazing mechanic in Martinez, CA who did all my engine and suspension work, this Summer: Fuel Pump, Water Pump, New Belts, Shocks and Air Bags. He doesn't have much space, nor a bay that allows for motorhomes, but he did work on my 87 Sea Breeze, to get me back on the road. Try calling The Car Doctor to see if he has space to help out. They are the nicest people in that shop, ever!

Also, there is a Toyota Shop called Dex's Automotive in Pacheco, CA (between Concord and Martinez I think). He is one of the best Toyota repair guys ever, but also does not have a bay tall enough for RVs, but he may be willing to to do the work, anyway.

Also, if you have AAA or Good Sam RV roadside assistance they can find you a shop or even send someone out to where you are. Sadly for me, I didn't have either after putting my Toy on "Non-Op" while in storage over the last 2 years. It was such a struggle to find anyone willing to do the work...

Hope this info helps you or someone else in the future. 🙂

I live in Pacheco...would you mind sharing your mechanic contact info.? I've got a few things that I haven't the time to do. You can also have him contact me at 925.804.5535. Thanks

  4. one thing I am concerning is where to find the roof support? it's aluminum...and for house, I can just use the hammer, taping to it and I can feel the roof rafter...Yes I install rooftop solar once in awhile ... but for the RV's Aluminum roof... I am clueless.

The other option is to drill all way thru the roof and use a big washer with thru bolt...nothing worse than having the solar panel flying off the roof :(

Well there's no AC there now so I wouldn't worry about it. You could repaint with elastomeric roof paint to be sure it doesn't leak. It also looks like a great mounting bracket for some solar.

I like the idea Linda...throwing 2 solar panels on the roof...so I don't have to plug it in every time....

For the brace, I would live it alone...sealing the roof to make sure it does not leak and enjoy!
