  1. I would love to see pictures or video of these so I can figure out how they work, or how to replicate them.

    Thanks!!

I have pictures/instructions in my chinooky manual. it looks like a real rinkydink hammock that has you climbing like a monkey to get up in them. I look at my chinook and wonder myself how they could have been an avaiolable option on mine

  2. congrats on the chinook purchase and good luck on the restore.

Bought my 77 last fall and beginning to tinker with it now.

My two cents is to bypass all the issues and future issues you will have w/ the stock carb and put a weber in it. wish I would have last fall. getting ready to hand mine over to a mechanic any day.

toyota mini's is a good site for toy motorhead feedback, btw, not to ad for another site, but its all good.

I am getting water in throught the drivers side engine compartment near the firewall :mad2:

thought I had it figured out

just bought a set of rubber for it cheap on CL as the rear tires were weather checked (great tread...but '04s left to rott)

we owned a 76 chinook when I was a teen and always wanted one. Mine is becoming more of a project then I thought when I bought it. need to get out in it soon!

    good luck.

  3. I did take advise here and buy a suv cover fron Northern Tool & Equipment here in Mn and it could not have fit any better. It was 60 degrees the day I put it on to check for fit. two days later we got a 12 inch heavy heavy snow storm and the sagging branches came down on my Chinook and tore slits in the cover :Poster_oops:

I switched to a slick white tarp for over the pop top and the snow slides right off.

  4. I offer my 30 plus years of Chefdom to the fine pages of Toyota motorhome.org!

I will soon install my Freedom tailgater grill on the rear (swings out) on my Chinook and offer my time tested opinions/recipe advise/ect? on the art of minimized cooking on the road.

Authentic Smokhouse BBQ is my passion (owned my own place for 5 years) and culinary arts is my career.

Lets get some thoughts and ideals flowing through the fall/winter (smoking/grilling is fun all year long however)

  5. Greetings From a Newbie:

Can anyone tell me what year and model Chinook this is (so I can track one down and buy it)?

    Thanks.

It is hard to tell since the shell on that model does not show any appliance openings on the right side.

Toyota Chinooks were last made in 1978. Other nameplates, duel wheels, larger shells, etc...but the poptop pictured was never made again after '78. all 4x4's you see on the web are swopped out rears and/or chassis.

  6. I am a proud new owner of a 1977 Toyota Chinook. I look forward to gleaning the pages of this site and asking advise.

I recently shifted from a 13 foot Scamp pull behind trailer (and the fine fiberglass rv'ers site) to one of the greatest small rv's ever made.

My Dad owned a 1976 (different interior layout from my '77) in the early '80's and I always wanted one.

The R20 on mine is well preserved (115k actual) and the rv spent its whole life in an Iowa polebarn (when not traveling)

I bought it with some nice add-ons including paint job (seafoam green...a tad odd but i already ordered camoflage rocker panel/vinyl accents to trick it into being an outdoorsy looking rig:first: ) Nice keystone rims as well

diamond plate running boards, diamond plate step bumper, entry and rainguard. Last week my sister and I stayed up till 4am and recovered the hideous orange floral print cushions and for $24 in materials it was a great update. Yesterday I picked up on Craigs list, an rv table ($15) from a 1977 camper (interesting '70's green) which should work quite well with the interior updates. The original owner kept everything since new, including all pristine manuals, chinook checklists, appliance manuals, etc...

needless to say I am thrilled to have it and happy to join this group.
