  1. Not a silly question, but yes, it was. I made sure to test it.
  2. I'm installing a FanTastic fan and am struggling finding power to it. I've got very limited electrical knowledge, so bear with me... What I did was pull the wires (black and white) that go to my small light over the couch into the overhead cabinet. I then spliced off a small part of the insulation (mid line) and connected the Fantastic wires to it. Black to black, etc. I taped them off, hooked my battery back up and now...nothing. The light doesn't work, and the fan doesn't work.. Luckily, the other lights in the coach still work. I've got a multimeter and am slowly learning how to use it. What have I done? Is this a simple fix? Any advice--no matter how elementary--would help! Thanks, Eric in Sacramento 1988 21' Odyssey 4cyl
  3. Thanks guys. Like I said, I'm new to this... So the good news is I don't have to fix anything! The bad news is, I thought I could run my a/c off the power created by the alternator. Not the end of the world. Now the question is... I'm installing my Fan-tastic to my dc line (brain fart thinking I'd connect it to AC). The directions explicitly say to NOT use a MaxxAir shroud over the unit, as it will hinder its performance. Is this a fair warning, or just a bit of market warfare? Thank You, RV Yodas. Eric in Sacramento
  4. Ugh. So if it's not my a/c unit, it's not my battery, and to the best of my knowledge (which I'm sure you can tell by now is less than great), it's not my fuses or breakers, what does that mean? It's somewhere deep in the bowels of my electrical system? What other diagnostic tests can I perform? As always, you guys are a wealth of information. Thank You. Eric in Sacramento
  5. Thanks again for the advice. One thing I noticed. When I hook up the MH to my house, the a/c and other 120v outlets run fine. Hmmmm. I also went back, and flipped both breakers. They're fine. The fuses look good, too. Could it be the battery? It's got a 10 year old walmart car battery in the coach. Did I just answer my own question? Eric in Sacramento
  6. I just bought my 88 Odyssey a week and a half ago, and I'm having a blast going through everything and tinkering. When I bought it, I tested the Coleman a/c and everything worked fine. A few days later, I turned it on, and again, no problemo. Now yesterday I tried to turn it on (hey, I'm in California and we need it right now) and nothing. Nada. No click, no buzz, no sign of life. I checked the few coach fuses and breakers, and nothing was blown. I thought there might be another fuse in the a/c unit itsself, so I removed the interior cover, but found nothing. Any other advice? Also. I'm trying to attach my FanTastic vent to the a/c power source, but am struggling to find where I connect the two. Any advice? Thanks so much. I'm a newbie, not terribly mechanical, and hoping, praying, and pleading that I bought a decent Odyssey. Eric in Sacramento.
  7. Thanks for the advice. What I've done is bought a Fan-Tastic fan with a MaxxAir shroud. I'm just about done with part one (the sealant around the original vent was impressive!), then on to the MaxxAir tomorrow. Interesting, the Fan-Tastic explicitly states that a MaxxAir shroud should not be used, as it will inhibit airflow. Any advice on whether I should heed this warning? I'm having an issue connecting it to the a/c, but I suppose I should start another thread about that....totally different subject.
  8. Thanks WME. That does look like it will fit the box. It's not plumbed or set up with a gasline, and yikes, $2800 is pricey. I'm thinking of doing a MaxxFan to keep the dog cool when we're not around. Sound like a good alternative? Thanks for all your help.
  9. I'm in Sacramento, California. Just bought my first MH. A 1988 20' Odyssey. Fairly decent condition, 80k, 4cyl auto with full rear dinette. My wife and I (we're in our early 30s) are headed out for 6 weeks this summer with our 90lb dog and 2 year old daughter. When I purchased it, I knew it didn't have a generator but figured I could easily install one. I'm finding that to be not so easy! I grew up on a sailboat, so tight living isn't too strange for me.
  10. I'm the proud new owner of a 1988 20' Odyssey. We bought it with everything we wanted-minus the generator--and figured we'd get one installed. I'm now hearing that there's no generator to fit my box (located on driver side rear). We need the gen to run the a/c, as we'll have our dog on most trips, and would rather not put one on the back trailer tray. Any advice on units that fit? If I bought a MH that won't accommodate the dog, my lovely wife will kill me. Thanks, Eric in Sacramento
  11. I'm the proud new owner of a 1989 21' Odyssey and I fit in it just fine! The a/c is a bit low, and the shower will be interesting, but the rest of the coach is perfect--so long as I don't grow one bit.
  12. I didn't know that about the Odyssey. Thanks for the tips. I grew up on a small sailboat, so adapting to a small space shouldn't be that difficult. Granted, I was a kid and didn't smack my head on everything.
  13. We're in the process of purchasing our first Toyota, and I've noticed a considerable height difference between the coaches. I'm 6'3" and don't want to constantly duck and/or smack my head on the ceiling. I've noticed that Winnebago's seem taller on the inside. Any insight? Thanks so much. Eric in Sacramento
  14. My wife and I are in the process of purchasing our first motorhome. 90 or 91 Dolphin, we know what to look for, know about what to pay, but I know that new buyers can get screwed. Is anyone in the Sacramento available or willing to look at a few rigs with me to determine if they're in good shape or not? Help test propane or gas, look for rot, etc.? A veterans advice could be valuable, so of course, I'd be willing to pay a reasonable consultation fee. Thanks so much. ERS
