  1. Hello, I have a 1990 Toyota Odyssey and it is the Durango model also (side door is in the rear behind the rear axle). My carpet was a bit worn and hard to keep clean (have three boys..:-) so this summer I put in wood flooring right over the old carpet. This is the 1/4 inch thick composite type wood that locks together (no glue needed) and I purchased it at Lowes. I can seen you a few pictures of what the floor looks like if you like. I layed the planks down sideways and did not have to extend any of the planks, expect for under the table, I was 4 inches short so I just put one plank sideways, or I could of left it open since it is under the table out of sight. The floor looks great, complements the wood work, very strong material, and super easy to clean, just a fast sweeping with a regular broom, or a wipe with wet rag. The floor did make my rocker chair slide, which I easily fixed by sliding some rubber legs boots over the five chair lags. Dennis...
  2. Hello All, Just a one week reminder about the Mid-West Toy-In on October 13th-14th in Galesburg Illinois. Please see the Toy-In section for details. As of today it appears that there will be four of use with our Toyotas, and maybe two others, one traveling without their rig and one person in the market to purchase a rig. There is still time and space to make a reservation. Thanks, Dennis...
  3. Hello, any suggestions on this? Thanks, Dennis...
  4. Hello All, What is your max air pressure range for your rear air bag shocks? Originally my rig had air bags with a max of 100, but the guy that I purchased her from had replaced the rear air bags and did not know the max air pressure. I have looked up rear air bags and most are max 100 psi, but I have found a few that are 50psi. I cannot seem to figure out what brand/model air bags that I have, is there any way to easily tell? Thanks, Dennis...
  5. Hello Bob, Another place to try to get an estimate from is CampingWorld. In OR they have locations in Portland, Wood Village, and Junction City. I would really try to get an estimate from a recognized company, it should help when submitting the repair bill to Walmart. Also, if the roof received structural damage in addition to the AC unit and Vent, and insurance companies are involved, you could be looking at a totaled vehicle. To prepare yourself for this, I would try to price out what a replacement would cost. Good Luck, Dennis...
  6. Hello All, I have no stake in this motorhome, I just saw it locally for sale and thought I would try to help find it a home. http://indianapolis.craigslist.org/rvs/433584457.html
  7. Hello Nancy, I think most of the Toyota Motorhomes had the dinette that folded down into the third bed. My model has upgraded chairs (rocker and swival) at the table so as a result they do not fold down. What I have been doing in the mean-time is having one of my boys sleep on the floor under the couch bed on a roll up foam mattress, it works, but the hall is blocked. Another thing that we thought about doing is a piece of plywood cut to fit across the front seats with a foam mattress on it, the two downsides is the the person sleeping there has to be short and they are semi outsite of coach area. I will be working on my bunk beds after this weekend, I want to get one done before going camping on October 12-14th. Dennis...
  8. Hello, The first thing I would check is if your gray water holding tank is empty. Next I would try to see if something is clogged right below the drain, if you can take your drain cap off try to see if something is under it. If that looks okay, it sounds like your piping is clogged up, I would try a piece of wire to push down the drain pipe. Usually the show either goes right into the gray water tank, or there is only a few feet of pipe to get to the holding tank. Also, you might want to try a littel plunger action. Hope the above helps, Dennis...
  9. Hello All, I just saw this 87 Toyota on craigslist (indiapolis) for $2500 or best offer, looks to be a 4 cylinder with 4-speed manual. http://indianapolis.craigslist.org/rvs/426918155.html
  10. Another issue that one needs to decide that could quickly limit your field, is where do you want coach side door to be. The two choices are right next to the cab's passenger seat (about 80% are made this way), or do you want you side door to be in the rear behind the rear axle (about 20% are made this way). Where the side door is located has a big influence on the coach layout. I personally like the bathroom to be all the way in the rear, and have the kitchen seperate the bathroom from the living room/bed quarters. I just do not like to be sleeping a couple of feet away from a toliet. The model that I have has the side door behind the rear axle, which ends up giving me a two foot buffer/mini-hall between the bath room and kitchen area. Good Luck, Dennis...
  11. Hello, if you are talking about the putty on the tape type stuff, any RV supply store should have the tape. I also found the tape at an ACE Hardware store before. You might want to check you local Walmart, they have been enlarging their RV supplies lately. Also, you can buy online at several places, try www.camperworld.com Good Luck, Dennis...
  12. I think you are going to find that there is not much difference on the MPG between the 4 cylinder and the 6 cylinder, they both get about 15 to 18 mpg, it all depends on your cruising speed. Speaking of crusing speed, the 6 cylinder should give you about an extra 10mph crusing speed over the 4 cylinder, expect a solid 65mph from the 6 cylinder, it basicallys comes down to 105hp/110hp (4 cyl) vs 150hp (6 cyl). I think you would be happier with the 6 cylinder all around. Dennis...
  13. Hello All, A Mid-West Toy-In is being held on October 13th/14th near Galesburg Illinois at the Galesburg East Campground (www.allcampgrounds.com/galesburgeast). It looks like a nice place, lots of trees, full hook ups, pull thru sites, a Good Sam Park, fishing pond, firewood, propane station, pets are welcome, and about 8 miles East of Galesburg. Our group name is "Toyota". We might end up getting a 10% discount, it all depends on our final numbers, so expect to pay the full rate ($24) and if we get the 10% discount it will be a bonus. There are additional fees for more than two adults, ($2 for each additonal adult and $1 for each additional child). For reservations call 309-289-2267 and tell them you are part of the "Toyota" group. We need to make reservations by October 1st to ensure that we can get sites next to each other. If you plan on attending and make a reservation, could you reply to me at bufbooth@yahoo.com and provide any suggestions, and if there will be any children coming along with the ages, I will try to plan a few activities for them, movie night, punkin craving contest, fishing tourament, ect. 15. I was thinking the same thing about the Ford / Firestone problem, 26 and 32 do sound extremely low, I would of expected closer to the 65psi, like in the 50psi to 55psi rating. I would get a second opinion from another tire dealer, I think the first one might of read the specs for a Toyota SUV. Dennis...
  16. Hello All, Is there a way to determine what brand / model a rear air bag shock is? When I purchased my 1990 Toyota Odyssey last year the past owner had new rear air bag shocks installed about 6 months earlier, but he did not keep any documentation on the brand / model, nor what the air psi range is. There was an old psi sticker near the air fill nossle that stated up to 100psi, but it appears to be the original sticker. Do all of the air bag shocks for our Toyota has a 100psi limit? I thought I read somewhere that some have a 50psi limit. Thanks, Dennis...
  17. They used to sell propane powered curling irons that looked like a regular curling iron but without a cord. I think they still sell them.
  18. Another small thing to try is to up the octane. Try a tank full of 91 to 93 octane and see if that helps any. Sounds like you are heading back out West in October, but if your plans do not work out, I am trying to get a last minute end of the season Mid-West Toy-In going for October. Dennis...
  19. Garagetuner1, What dates were you in YellowStone this year? I left IN on 7/19 and was in YellowStone on 7/21 to 7/26, we stayed at the Fishing Bride campground in the park. The oil consumption does sound high. I owned a 1986 Toyota pickup truck and put 205,000 on it and did not have to add any oil between 5,000 mile oil changes. Also, on my Yellowstone trip (4,000 miles) I added a half quart near the end of my trip, but that was after a few 10% grades in NE Wyoming and 3,000 miles of use. (1990 Toyota Odyssey V6) If you have a bad valve seal on one or more of your valves, you could be leaking the oil there and causing the valve to burn / carbon up, causing a compression leak. Pull your spark plugs and check for carbon fouling and while ALL the plugs are out do a compression test. If your compression is down, squirt some oil in the cylinder and immedidately do the compression test again, if the compression goes up, you have bad rings (the oil will seal the rings for a few seconds), if the compression stays the same, you have a bad valve. The odds are that a valve seal will go before the rings since they are rubber and 22 years old, and if the motorhome in the past sat 11 months of the year, the rubber valve seals can easily get dried out. If you do not have a compression tester, any Sears or auto part store should have a decent one in the $30 to $50 range. Dennis...
  20. Any Midwest Toyota owners interested in an October 2007 Toy-In? If so, please email me at bufbooth@yahoo.com with your location and October 2007 weekends that work for you and I will work out the best date and location, and then see who is interested. Thanks, Dennis...
  21. Have you done a compression check on each of the cylinders yet? If you have compression down on one or more cylinders you could easily drop 5 to 10 mph off of your top end. Bad rings would require a complete tear down, but a bad valve or two would only require the head to be rebuilt. Dennis...
  22. Hello All, I have been dragging my feet on the transmission flush at the Toyota dealer, I need to stop by and ask them for exact details on what they will do on their transmission flush. Here is a good article that I found on a transmission flush (two types) and it deals with Toyotas: http://www.gadgetonline.com/TransFlush.htm Sound like the kind of transmission flush that I want is one that removes the pan and connects the new fluid line directly to the trans pump, which will allow all the old fuild to cycle out the transmission, then while the pan is off, then the in-pan filter can be replaced, plus one can see what is on the bottom of the pan. Interesting results if the in-pan filter clogs up....no more fuild to the transmission and it burns up. Sounds like the real danger to the transmissions is the filter clogging up instead of bad fuild. The next decision I have to make is what kind of ATF to use, any suggestions? 23. Hello, nice Toyota, I like it!!! The power issue that you have is that you have a 4 cylinder engine. Do you have the 22R with a carb? There probably is not much you can do to improve the HP more than it had when new, but probably the first thing you should do is be sure it is in top running condition. Even though it ran well for you overall, it still might need a good tune-up (new plugs, wires, cap, ect), new fuel filter, carb cleaning, and a new air filter (a dirty one can rob up of up to 20% mpg and HP). Also, if you have any exhaust issues (slight hole in the muffer or leakage around the manifold), you are loosing some power. I would not expect more than 60mph for cruising. Hope the above helps, keep us updated, Dennis... Indiana...
  24. The Toyota motorhomes from 1989 to 1993 have V6 3.0L engines and can be found in both 4 speed automatic and 5 speed manual. Dennis...
