  1. So I just got to the point on our dolphin where all the big mechanical projects are complete and am getting into the camper aspect of it all. I started the dometic fridge yesterday but it didnt seem to get cool? how long does it take? I took off the out side cover and could see the pilot light was burning... but after like 2 hrs the aluminum elemnet still wasnt cold.

  2. 1.) get a bunch of boxes of dryer sheets and rub the fabrics with them leave them everywhere in stacks

2.) febreze noticeables plug in dual air freshener is like an evaporating oil that switches back and forth so it always smells fresh and new and lasts a month straight

    and

3.)buy this spray air freshener spray called ozium get it at your local auto supply/parts store or walmart and it rocks and destroys tough odors fast and for good if you are persistent

our camper smelled like an ashtray as well as a wet dog and I had just quit smoking when we got our beloved 1986 toyota dolphin in november so I was wicked sensitive to smells especially cigarettes and I did these 3 things and its smelling fresh now... now I want a sticker that says "save the dolphins" hope you can save your stinky new baby too! lol

  3. hahaha left hand threads gee wish we read this post a couple weeks back when we had a fun time struggling to get them off torching away at them thinking they were stuck its funny now...yet wasn't then..

so by the way we have an early model 1986 dolphin 300 model and its got the left hand threaded drivers side 6 lugs you are saying that came from a 1986 toyota 1 ton truck not the original motorhome's replaced 6 lug? because of the left hand threads? they didn't do that for anything but? that's cool/interesting you learn something every day! I heard toyota made diesel pickups in canada for a bit wouldn't that be a fun conversion if our young 22re ever shits the bed i'm going to seek one of those babies out

ps cool drawing of a guy and his toyota motorhome(not mine) thought folks here might enjoy(didnt work... try again later)

  4. Hey everyone, So I have been getting my 86 21' toy dolphin ready for a big trip and am looking at these leaf springs that are sitting almost completely flat... on side a little bit more then the other.

Im wondering if when I replace the leaf springs it will sit higher or does it sag a bit due to the natural weight of the camper being on it.

Did they national rv get the toyota, and as they built it the weight added up causing the springs to sit ah bit flat?

I saw another that sat the same way but was in ruff shape so not such a good source.

I feel they are over 20 years old and are just old? what do you all think?

Anyone able to show me how their leafs look? I know a truck would need them if it sat flat...

  5. Late night on the first day of spring on the Kankamangus Highway in northern New Hampshire looking out the window at a scenic overlook over 10 foot snowbanks at the most stars I have ever seen he asked me to marry him!!!!!! and of course I said yes next month were getting married and toy-ho we go on a dolphin honeymoon road trip across the country!!!

ps We love toyotamotorhome.org and toyota motor homies (thats you!)

  6. 185R14

    Hankook 185 r14

don't let some stupid salesman tell you you need the middle number or you will end up with a passenger car tire tell them it's a one ton truck if they can't wrap their mind around the fact that you want a 185r14 we are in the far north east and plan to cross the country so we will have a good review on these in a while we thought out the highway tires will help keep our amazing gas mileage make sure they are load rated c or d got em for 99 at town fair tire

also another tip if you didn't know there is a number that will identify the manufacturing date and I just found out even if its got tread it can be expired by date or simple dry/UV rot

anyone care to comment on a saggy leaf spring(s)???

  7. so you are saying theoretically instead of bringing 2 mounted spares I could carry just one front 5 lug spare and the back goes flat "limp" to somewhere until you can fix the problem or how about if i bring one spare tire and 2 rims and then I save the weight of one tire and have to get it mounted or mouth the tire to the 5 lug and the 6 lug it it goes flat I limp to somewhere I can get the tire mounted on to the other rim

    is that what you do?

whats more important: less weight or 2 spares?

this feels like that riddle where you have a river to cross and bring with you a goat a wolf and a cow or however it goes any you only have one boat and cant leave the wolf with the cow

  8. hey thanks so much great help thats the tires Ive been looking at getting.

Plus I Didnt know about the stems and my buddy who knows someone with a garage is gonna mount them for free so I can buy them to give him thanks so much!!!!!!!!!!

  9. It kind of falls in to the area don't ask don't tell, or common sense why stir up a hornets nest I did that was about 8 they were faster then me

Common Sense aside sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do (or wanna do) I just want to know how far can the line be blured I mean I dont want to get some stupid ticket when I could have stopped for a moment but I also dont want to stop unless I have a damn good reason.. ie not getting a moving violation ticket

I'm serious I want to know the legalities of what states allow you to be freely in the back of a motorhome this would greatly reduce the time it takes to get from a to b if you dont have to stop to use the facilities and have one person sleep while the other drives.

I am trying to find out the rules I'm not going to be pulled over on the side of the highway explaining myself that I did not know the rules I'm sure that I'm not the first to want to know this.

for example in NH there is no seatbelt law so does that mean I can live free or die in the back of my MH walking around (when appropriate and necessesary) using the bathroom etc.. or do they just mean I don't have to be belted because I read that in CA they allow passengers in the back of motor homes and busses to be exempt from the seatbelt laws...... so who knows what other states have similar because according to:

    http://www.iihs.org/laws/SafetyBeltUse.aspx

CA is primary enforcement state as far as safety belt laws go

    anyone.. anyone.. bueler? bueler?

anyone been pulled over for being up in the motorcoach? anyone not been pulled over for being up and in the motor coach?

  11. Hello we have a 1986 dolphin 300 series

we are wondering what size tires other dolphin owners use with the rear tires we have 185r14 in the front and 195/14 in back looking at getting 185/r14/d but not sure if I should get the larger 195r14 wich seems harder to find tires for it...

When I bought the truck I handnt realized their was a few bubbles in the sidewall of the outer right rear wheel, Im going to purchase the 185 r 14 unless anyone can suggest other.. I also found out...

last night when I broght it to a mechanic friend who then showed me I have air ride along with my leaf springs and sure enough the right rear is flat not sure if that could go along with the damage to the tire so pretty confused at this point, going to try an fill it in the morning... anythought on the tires? what do you run? size, brand...

also anyone replace a boot or the air ride before? were can I even find out about them. Are they aftermarket?

  12. Anyone care to elaborate...? Anyone know a source to find a state by state seat belt law list?

and if there is no seat belt law does that mean you can be up and standing? or lying down sleeping?

can you be in the back cooking while driving? either gas stove or an electric burner run off a power inverter?

can you use the bathroom or shower while driving?

  13. I'm Kate from New Hampshire. I bought my 1986 21' Sunrader in Pennsylvannia six months ago. I hunted for the rear dinette with reasonable mileage, wraparound windows and a storage pod. I spent about five years looking for it. (Meanwhile, I had a 27 foot Coachmen that was just too big.) The first time that I took my Sunrader for an overnight, I drove to the beach in New Hampshire. (Yes, New Hampshire has beachfront.) The bad news...I BLEW A TIRE! The fiberglass was damaged. That was a bummer. Nevertheless, my college-aged son and I had a good time. I asked my son along because I don't like going alone. My husband doesn't like camping. He likes hotels. He has encouraged me to go without him, if camping makes me happy. (I've got a good husband.) I'll get out more times next year. I'll take one of my kids or one of my sister's kids. The Sunrader also got some other uses this summer. Once it was used as a clubhouse. My 13 y.o. spent an overnight with two friends in the Sunrader. Another use is for eating take-out food. I also have been known to drive my Sunrader to Outback Steakhouse takeout window. Hubby and I don't have to wait over an hour to eat. We eat our meal right there in a romantic corner of the parking lot. Yet another use for next year is to go to the Drive-In theaters around here. There are lots of rules about driving in with an RV. One of the rules is that RVs are only allowed on weeknights. Next year we will get to the Drive-In theater a couple of times. Maybe I'll have more stories in the future.

Hey I swear we saw you and your raider about 2 weeks ago on our way to look at an 86 dolphin which we ended up getting bc it was a raider with wraparound windows and nh plates I saw it and was floored we took it as a sign and LOVE LOVE our dolphin and are so glad we got it good to see another lady toyota motorhome lover in nh
