  1. We put in a 2nd fuel tank just in front of the existing 17 gallon tank. The 2nd fuel tank adds an additional 23 gallons. The total is now 40 gallons. Both fuel tanks are filled through the same existing spout, with a Y-fitting in the fuel line. Each tank has it's own air tube which goes up to the fuel spout for air release while filling. Also the bottom of the 2nd tank is slightly higher than the bottom of the existing 17 gallon tank. It seems to work perfectly, although we're about to give it a real workout on a 6000 mile trip across country and back; the system was pressure checked, then leak checked with fuel.

We also had a 3600-watt Generac installed (actually is was already there when we bought it... unused since the previous owner never hooked it up... it's a new generator); the generator fuel line is connected to the 2nd tank. We believe that because the 2nd tank is higher there is no chance of the generator running us out of fuel at night. Generator consumes up to 1/2 gallon per hour if fully loaded and 1/4 gallon per hour if unloaded.

The whole project took about 4 days and we were only charged $1000 total... plus the $138 to fill the tanks for the first time so it could be checked for fuel leaks.

Very clean. The only thing that had to be slightly moved was the parking break line, but this was accomplished with the help of a pulley welded onto the frame.

------------- Vehicle wise, we have also replaced the spark plugs with iridium hot plugs (to burn at a high temperature) and installed a $44 K&N Air Cleaner. We had the oil changed and put an engine reconditioner product in the oil. We expect better MPG's but don't know how much yet. The old air cleaner was VERY dirty... we could get as much as 25 to 30% high mileage... we were getting about 11-mpg average. I'll let you'all know.

Where did you get the second fuel tank? Was it a retrofit from another vehicle or was it custom made to fit the space. I would love to have the ability to have to extra range when I wanted it.

  2. Hi

upgraded from an 86 dolphin to a 90 winnie 321rb have most of the documents but nothing that covers the cabin in whole or part besides the basic specs from factory.

    My questions are as follows

Fresh water tank drain is located where?

There are cabin speakers one on each side of cabin they are factory as verified by bochure pics. Where are they wired to? they do not seem to be wired to truck radio as it is toyota factory and work in truck but no sound from cabin.

No Awning on the sweetie any ides what make and model will best work here this is the 321rb with the entrance door very close to the driver cab?

On my 91 Warrior there are 2 ring pulls located under the couch on the drivers side to drain the tank. They are little hard to find the first time.

  3. Onetime I came across a chart that tracked how many amps are generated by a solar panel throughout the day. I know in the 4 peak hours midday the panels put out close to their max rating, but in the hours before and after midday the rate drops off. I'm looking at a 135W Kyocera panel that puts out 7+ amps; how many amps would I expect to produce in a normal summer day.

  4. Just wanted to let everyone know of another option if you have a laptop and wifi. I get Netflix for $8.99 a month which gets me 1 dvd out at a time by mail, but also gives me full unlimited access to their streaming content. While this does not include the newest releases it does have thousands of movies in all categories.

  5. I'm looking for help/sugestions from anyone who has done a Chinook camper swap. Before I get into it I wanted to hear from someone who has done this and what they think would be involved in mounting the camper to the replacement truck cab. Obviously the cab will be cut into to allow access to the camper so has anyone out there done this? How hard was it? How did you do it...etc. Basically I'd like an idea how hard/easy it was to pull off and any tricks or special considerations I should know about before I start looking to buy.

  6. I rebuilt the 1400 surface mount triples on my 1981 by purchasing 2 new 1400 recess mount doubles and scavenging all of the interior parts out of them and using the new lenses. I did away with the backup light in the old triple and rewired them to have 2 park 2 brake 1 turn on each side. World of improvement.

As you have found out. Bargman (the company who bought reflect-o-lite) no longer makes triples of any kind (surface or recessed). so you have only 2 options. Go with something else. Buy new units and cannibalize them to make yours new.

If you decide to go with replacements I would advise you to go with the bargman recessed triples (the wide ones). These are larger than your reflect-o-lite triples so you will need to cut more metal. This is easier than trying to make and seal a mounting plate to use the smaller modern triples.

Turtle I have noticed that you have allot of great info and pictures on many different projects and upgrades.I was wondering if you had an index or main page for them as toymike.com only has one link on it.

  7. The NADA prices are pretty unrealistic anyway. I looked up my 1992 Warrior in NADA and it was valued at about half the amount I paid for it. Of course you can use the NADA as a tool to help get a little better price. If are looking to get a better idea of the real going prices I think your time would be better spent doing some internet research. Check ebay, craigstlist, yahoo toyota-campers,google ect. for Toys that are currently for sale as well as recently sold.

  8. There is one just like that in a "U" store it lot near my work has not moved in 2 years looks nice, green and white glad I don't have to put gas in it!

That was the deal sealer for me on the Toyota fuel efficiency and reliability.

There really is not another vehicle that measures up to the Toyota for under $50,000 :omg:

  9. Mine is a 92 Winne 21ft I seem to remember the book stating C at 50psi which is what is on it now,due to age plan on tire's this year so far have only found D rated tires which would be somewhat higher rating, and I hope the ride doesn't suffer. Someone posted here about a similar unit with a very harsh ride I'd hate to buy 6 new tire's and find out afterwards. Overkill

I would think that the ride stiffness would have more to do with the tire pressure than the extra plys in a D rated tire. I have seen a lot of discussion regarding the bet psi to run the d rated tires at for best ride and performance.
