  1. Lui... This is probably too late to help you on that rig now but I WILL POST IT FOR YOUR FUTURE INFO AND FOR OTHERS. i WAS LOOKING INTO IMPORTING A tOY FROM OUT OF STATE ALSO. i LIVE IN ca AND MY VERY KNOWLEAGABLE SMOG GUY SAID THAT IF THE RIG WAS FEDERALLY MADE, (WHICH MOST ARE AND THIS CAN BE DETECTED FROM THE VIN NUMBER), AND SO LONG AS ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT EXISTS ON THE VEHICHLE AND HAS NOT BEEN TAMPERED WITH, iT WILL PASS CA SMOG. There is a special CA smog law that allows for this. Hope this helps.

  2. I'm looking at a 1984 22R (2.4L) 4 spd. 21' Sunrader for sale in North Dakota where there are no emissions laws (I live in California). The gentleman that is selling it said that since the RV has always been in North Dakota, he's never had to perform a smog check on it. He also added that he's cared for the camper and it shows from the pictures I've seen. Hence my questions:

Has anyone ever "imported" an RV similar or the same as this one to California?

I'd like to have an idea if this RV will pass the smog check necessary to complete the first-time registration here in California (I'm guessing it shouldn't be too difficult due to the engine's small size?) If the answer is uncertain, can anyone think of any parts that might be responsible for a failure to pass? I've read on other webpage's forums that the carburator tends to be the culprit for failed smog tests.

I've also read that legislation now requires that the gas tank be checked for any pressure loss (gasoline delivery system must be totally sealed). Has anyone run into any problems with this?

I'm thinking about flying over to N. Dakota to see it and probably buy it since it seems really well kept but I'd like to get as many opinions as I can before I invest in the $500 plane ticket. Thanks in advance! Lui.

  3. If any of you are travelling through Redwood country in No. Ca and need to hang for a night or two with free hookups, you ar welcome. I am 450 miles from San Francisco. . . about a 4.5 hour drive. I can move my toy over in the driveway for yours. I am located in the heart of the redwoods and am native here so can give you a heads-up about what to see and what the roads are like. There s a free dump station 6 miles North., as well as a Safeway. Two local grocery stores within 1 mile. Also a very nice KOA but is usually full. There is an RV repair shop 4 miles North open Mon-Fri.. Most state/Fed parks around here are very beautiful but no hookups. I live on a rural residential street.. driveway is about 40 feet long but 25 feet wide on one end. Boat hose and extension cord to garage are available. Driveway is private... fence on one side with neighbor on other side of fence, my house on other. this offer is for fellow toy owners only, I don't need some behemouth Bounder in here. . and of course we must talk first...

  4. I am told by old experienced RV'r friends of mine that fridges in RV's rarely last more than 10 years..And that would be under perfect level conditions and with regular use. Hope that gives you something to go by...I am having to replace mine and when I do will keep it plugged in and going most of the time on low. If there is a strong ammonia smell when running... it is gonzo...

  5. Hey Everyone,

I recently bought a 1986 Dolphin with a 4 cyl. 22 RE automatic EFI engine. It is my first RV and I am having trouble driving it. I am having a hard time getting the RV to cruise without reving up the engine. It seems like every time I just lightly touch the gas pedal the engine revs up and my tachometer goes from 2.5 to 4 and then down again. Can't find a consistent cruising speed. Seems like I burned a lot of gas too. I am worried there is something wrong with the transmission. What is the best crusing speed and how should I drive it smoothly? Please help! We are going to Yellowstone this summer and I need to get this figured out. It is really bothering me.

    Thanks,

    Wales

Hi... I am a newbie also and have same engine with automatic 3 spd w/overdrive. I find best cruising speed at 60 mph in overdrive on freeway.
