  1. Hmnn...I would guess of the vehicle was sound mechanically, the repair would take a little time and ingenuity.
  2. I hae the 83 Dolphin and for some reason the lighter will no longer work, I checked the fuse (under the steering wheel and it looks fine) any suggestions... Also wondered why the oven won't turn on, the pilot is lit? Thanks in advance, if it's already been answered, please direct me to thread ads I can't find it... Thanking you in advance.
  3. Thanks guys, was a truly memorable experience. We got lucky in Yosemite valley, Bass Lake, we were informed of a 'Run off' RV parking which was free, there were spots at the Lake tho', I think the gas prices and economy has impacted the availability of paces positively. The kids loved the experience, I built a very simple bed that sat on the chairs so, we slept six, we also took a tent which proved popular with the boys. Big Sur was wonderful, great spot on a cliff looking over the ocean, about 3o miles shy of Henry Miller's library (South of it). We also spent a night at a forest which was my favourite, cool temp and the best air I've breathed since Scandinavia in the early 80's. Only just figured out the hot water and at medium temp it's very hot! The only downside of the experience was coming home to Los Ang and having to climb the very busy 'grape vine' on the 5, at 17 miles an hour with trucks bullying us. Pretty scary, I'll plan the drives in future, definitely early starts and will time the tricky mountainous areas. We traveled to mammoth lake last year in our 83 VW Vanagon camper and the Dolphin trumps it in just about every way... The ac, the hot water, the cooking, the shower and the eaze of settling down for the night... We're off to Sequim in Washington in a few weeks and I hope to have everything running...Still a lot to learn but..
  4. A few pix from our first trip..Bug Sur and Yosemite valley...
  5. Brilliant! I rechecked and found if I pulled it 'all the way' it was solid... I will print this out for future ref. Thanks so much... We just left Big Sur, no internet or cell, fantastic! Tonight Carmel and tomorrow Monterey and San Fran and beyond... Can't get the darned water heater to light, it's brand new too. Oh we got 20 miles a gallon from Los Angels, pretty impressive if you consider much of the driving in 3rd gear due to winding climbs and falls. Loving it and so is my wife (who took a lot of convincing to buy this vehicle) and my 4 kids... Cheers everyone...
  6. Thank you Areevee87... I'll have a go... Appreciate the detail and time. You rule!
  7. Hi, I'm new to this forum and also the Toyota Dolphin 83, drawn by the mpg and dry camping. I did find manuals here tho' (Thank you Robert and Jackie Daniel)... We used a 1983 westfalia Vanogan in the past. I need to tighten my parking brake, this is the most crucial as we're taking our first trip to Big Sur in a few days... I figured it can't be that difficult and maybe someone has a how to or at least where to? I haven't figured out how to get the water and heating, ac etc running but ne step at a time... I did try to search the forums but alas. Oh we've already done a ton of work on the interior...I'll post the pix soon. Thanking you in advance...
  8. It's just a warning ticket..Maybe the cop was actually concerned for your and other road users well being.
