Wow, thank you for replying in nano second...I tried it with my light too, but nothing? I do see a red and white cable, should I try that? I'm sorry, I'm not good with electrics at all...

I removed the dead weight and dead air conditioner off the roof of my 85 Dolphin, bought a Fan tas tic fan but haven't a clue how to get it working. I tried connecting to the two wires but there is no power... is it a fuse thing or am I missing something?..you can laugh at me, my kids do.... I'm hopeless at electrics....can't find anything that helps on You Tube... thanks

Thanks guys, you made me feel a lot better.

Hey Costa Rica Toy, that is very generous of you....If we ever go that way, i'll take you up on the lot...Tho' it must be one long ride from Los Angeles. I would love to make a trip as grand as that (sigh).

Had a long day, arrived in Vegas. mandalay Bay at 3 am, went into a parking structure without paying attention to the height limit, took out the illuminated overhead sign... Oddly enough, they were very nice about it...never got a bill...you see, even in the devil's playground, there are angels... Dumb on my part and my kids lost all respect for me...

We've had our Dolphin about a year... It's been the best purchase our growing family (almost 5 kids) and Jack Russel has ever made. Trips to Squim in Washington, mammoth Lakes in Nth Cal, New years eve at the grand canyon! An acoustic tour with just me and muy guitar friend. Cal. Az, Tx and Washington.. It's been used as a dressing room on many local band dates, I've slept in it after a few too many beers after shows. And when it gets too hot at home. I take off to cool down... We use it all summer at the beach, cooking abd kicking back. We've just taken off and exited at random exits, ended up driving way off the beaten track on railroad and farm roads. in the middle of nowhere with just us and the stars... just thought I'd drop in.-)

Have driven our 6,000# 4 banger towing a 1,000# trailer, from Kelowna BC to South Central Mexico. Mountain passes at 12,000 ft. steep steep hills 10,000 miles round trip, no problems. Gotta be careful going down hill more than up hill.
Wise... and very true.

Hello,
I have a 1990 Toyota Odyssey with a V6 and automatic. The Odyssey's are the
heaviest in the Toyota fleet, my is 6,000 pounds without passengers and cargo,
others weight more near 5,000 pounds.
On my Indiana to Grand Canyon trip I was able to maintain 50mph to 60mph on all
roads in CO except for one. I had stopped at a rest stop which was at the bottom of
a 10% grade. I basically started off from a dead stop and I could not get her over 30mph.
I did not feel too bad when I realized half way up that none of the cars behind me were
going any faster and they had their own lane to pass if they wanted.
On another trip to Yellowstone, on the way home I took a state route in WY, it was a
12% grade. I could not get her over 30mph, but she just chugged all the way up for me.
If I was 1,000 pounds lighter I probably could of hit 40mph.
Dennis...
We struggled over the Grapevine (Pyramid lake?) going to Los Angeles, like 15-20 mph, mind you it is a VERY long climb that runs for miles. I doubt going to Denver from LA on that very steep mountain ( can't recall the area) to 11,000 feet. would see us do any better. It's Dolphin, stick, 4cyl... I may have my mountain stats wrong but... Oh my older VW vanagon camper went 11mph up the Colorado mountain... my latest one did it at 45mph, it;s a stick too,,,

Found the foam thread, thanks for the great tips guys.
-
Anyone have a source for foam, our local place wanted $500!!! Is this what foam costs?? I may just watch CL for sikea sofas that get thrown out, I know they use foam...
-
Hmmn..depends. check local listings... looks to me about $2000 too much... But I'm cheap.I have found an 87 Dolphin with 70000 original miles. They are asking $8700.- This seems high...Can anyone advise me. Gratefully.... -

On some ovens the pilot has two stages. Idle and call for heat. In heat the pilot flame will be larger and produce more heat, the extra heat allows the valve to open. Sometimes the thermocouple can have corrosion, soot etc that will insulate from the heat so take a look at that. How do you light your pilot. Does the control knob have a position that says "Pilot"? If you do then the above will apply. I would start with the thermocouple first, its the cheapest component to replace. Add more heat with a long stick match or something to it and see if it will light. Watch the arm hairs though. Also sometimes loosing and re-tightening the thermocouple where it attaches to the valve can help as they generate micro-volts and it does not take much corrosion to diminish that voltage.
I'll do this first... Thank you Greg.

Thank you so much for your replies...
The oven looks like it has never been used, there is no wear and tear nor evidence of it ever actually been cooked with, it's showroom quality, maybe that's the problem?... I'll Google your recommendations, so thanks for that.
The lighter is a mystery, it did work and then stopped, my first thought was a fuse, I'll buy another even tho' it looks good. Radio works fine.
Will get back with my results...Thanks again...

The iphone is a must for travelling, I have the original 2g 16 gig, internet, email, text and can be used as a phone!
I also take my macbook and as At@T is free at MacDonalds/starbux, I just pull up for an hour and do ll that I need to do...No need to so much as buy a coffee.-)

I'm lucky, my wife sews, even I can hand sew and have repaired the canvas on my VW camper... Sewing is definitely something that is very useful, I think Moms used to pass the knowledge down but maybe that's not so prevalent in the 2.1 nuclear family. I would learn, my wife tells me curtains and cushions are a doddle and you could muster it in a few minutes. She's going to show me tonight.

Oh so the white is vinyl? If so, I'm off to Loews...

I would like to clarify something, When I call the Toyota a Toy. I am using it as an abbreviation, not being descriptive. But I thought everyone did that. And im just taking a guess here but I dont think ambulances are made from a Toyota frame. Thus the reason no one would call an ambulance a toy.
I've driven VW camper vans for many years and can remember when I first bought a 69 vanagon how difficult and big it felt, within a few drives I had it down..The Toys are not difficult to drive and you'll soon get the feel of the size and speed and how to manage it. I've always bought older vehicles
and the payoff has always been, even a new engine is cheaper than a new vehicle by far. Fixing then up is half the fun and even a day and night at the beach is priceless imho... Give it a try, if you don't like it, you can always sell it. They sem to be like VW's and hold their price well...at eleast in los Angeles.

You have this one.-) Google anything you need to know and the websites and answers will appear.
Good luck!

Hi Shasta,
for some reason I failed to include a response in the above reply...Doh!
I'm a newbie with bells on...
Well, thus far... Drive early and stop early, night or evening driving is more stressful and unnecessary if you plan the trip(s).
The greatest advantage of the Toy is the option to just pull over and relax, take a nap, cook etcetera.
Kids no longer ask "are we there yet'.
For the first time of 30 years of travelling the country, I no longer have to look for restuarant or even rest stops, the days of throwing away small fortunes on food and drinks at service stations are gone!
The freedom has been the greatest joy, no need to wear one's self out looking for hotels, motels particularly in the Summer and holdays.
We almost purchased a 30 foot RV which was temting in tems of size and utilities but figured drives over a hundred miles would camcel out the
fun aspect, at 5-7 miles a gallon, I figured we'd save hundreds of dollars a week and could justify the occassional hotel and special treats. I probably said it before but this was the major reason I went with the Toy, despite there being 6 of us on the road... Oh' and you can park anywhere!
Disadvatages...You have to really think ahead on the freeways, lane choices and steep hills demand a different approach than an average vehicle.
Middle lanes are better as you don't have to slow down (you can rarely accelerate past freeway entering traffic)..Car pool lanes are mostly a no-no as it can be tricky getting off at an exit that demands multiple lane changes.
So, ultra defensive is the mode we apply to our travels. Jope some of this makes sense...I'll be searching for tips and advice here often.
Best

Hmnn...I would guess of the vehicle was sound mechanically, the repair would take a little time and ingenuity.
