    Just made a screen door for my Sunrader

    I took a good look at my door and frame yesterday and realized that the hinges for a screen door are still intact and had been taped down with double-sided tape to the door frame and then taped over with black electriacl tape. I think I may actually be able to just go to Home Depot and buy the materials to build myself an inexpensive screen door. I'm pretty sure that they sell cut to fit screen frames and the type of latches I'd need. I'm just not sure about the little sliding section that covers the RV door handle, but I'm sure I can come up with something.

    Talked to Adco today, they said that they did make them but stopped, mainly due to many complaints about poor fitment. I asked if there was any way that they still had any around and "gasp" they said they did have some that were all thrown away when they moved buildings a few months ago :(

    Adco does make the type of cover I'm looking for, just not for Toyotas. It could be they once made them back when Toyota RVs still sold new, or at least weren't 10 years into extinction. I'll call them and see what they have to say, maybe they've still got a few or can make them based on their old specifications?? I'll let you guys know what I find out.

    Anyone know where to find these for the Toyota cab? They can be had for all Class Cs, does anyone make them for Toyota trucks? They usually have an elastic loop that fits over the top rear corner of the doors and then attach to the doors below the windows and the top edge of the hood with magnetics.

    Called the tank builder today. Got the same info Tika did, except I was told by the parts dept. that it would have to be a min of 10 tanks, he could have been wrong.

    Good news for me is that the bigger tank uses stock Toyota parts. IE the gaskets, level sending unit and fuel pump. Going on a trip next weekend so hopefully the weekend after I will drop the tank. Not sure if there is a filter on the pickup tube. I think I will buy the stock sender and make sure it has full swing top to bottom. Right now I am finding that it will read full but when its on empty I can have as much as 10 to 12 gallons in the tank. Its been a guessing game.

    So even though they were the originak manufacturer of the larger tanks if you want a bigger tank you might have to have one built by someone else. Besides, its really only 10 gallons more than the stock tank. Rig two GI cans on the rear and you have that.

    I wonder if reads E simply because you've used 13-15 gallons, with my stock Toyota tank it reads right near E once I'm down 13 gallons and just below E when I'm down 15. Could it simply be that your tank is 6 or 7 inches deeper than the stock unit?

    Is it one of the 86-88 stock turbo truck units, or is it a custom install? IIRC the stock Toyota turbo trucks were outperformed by the new '89 3.0 V6s when they appeared and replaced the Turbo option, but I'm going on memory alone. How heavy is the your rig and what sort of mpg do you get with your engine package? Would you say it outperforms a similar weighted later model V6?

    Any opinions on the Yokohama Y356s? Costco doesn't carry tires suited for our rigs, except some Michelins that are only load range C, I really want D range like our rig currently has. My local Discount Tire only carries these Yokohamas, the sales guy claimed they were carried specifically for the Toyota based RVs. They run $89 each, so 6 out the door would be $591. Seems reasonable, but I don't know anything about these tires???

    Is the Winnebago Vista our modern equivalent?

    No doubt the VW powered Vista isn't the equivalent, but it's about the closest new RV to what the Toyotas offer. Congrats on your find! We too recently purchased a Toyota based RV, a '90 Dolphin V6. We got it from the original owners, and from what I've come to find out we stole it from them at only $6.5k Everything works perfectly, it just doesn't have a gen, micro, or awning and was incredibly dirty on the outside, inside was perfect. We already had a 6 month old Honda EU2000 gen which does run our AC, so we're happy to not have to carry a gen around unless we need it. After many hours of elbow grease I've gotten all the road grime off of the outside and it now really looks like a $10k+ Dolphin, we couldn't be happier. Ours is the model with the couch, barrel chair, and L shaped dinette which was our first choice of floorplans. Our first trip will be over Memorial Day.

    I've checked them out at several RV shows and they are very nice and seemingly pretty well constructed. I talked with a higher up at Winnebago Industries a year or so back when we were first considering a Toyota RV and asked him what his opinion of the Toyotas was. He said that his parents had a Winnebago on a Toyota and that it was fantastic. They'd no doubt still be making them if Toyota hadn't left the market. He gave me the canned story that the axle issue was really the fault of the consumers who had overloaded their RVs, which I think is just the manufacturers passing the blame but that's another story.

    I understand, my rig has 7 identical rims, so the spare will fit front or rear without a problem. The two newer tires I plan to keep look nearly new and aren't cracking at all, so I'm pretty confident that they'll make an excellent spare, and spare spare :D

    That's a good idea Greg, I need to get the rig weighed, although I'm almost afraid to find out :blink: I read the date codes on my tires this morning and 5 of the tires were made back in '94, the other 2 were made in '00. I'll likely keep the two newer ones and buy 6 new ones for the ground.

    Any recommendations? I want to replace all 6 tires, the Toy is a Dolphin '90 model but on an '89 Toyota, built by Toyota in 3/89, and National RV in 6/89, if that matters. It currently has Bridgestone RD-603 Steel tires, size 185R14. That's also the size specified on the plate behind the driver's seat. wheels are 14x5J. I'll likely move the best of the seven back to the spare and buy 6 for the ground. I'm looking for a bargain, but also safe tires for the family, safety over frugality ;)
