  1. Oh, then it got to be a Santana:> http://www.toyotamotorhome.org/forums/inde...=si&img=638 I think thats the only one made that late model. Others would know better then I. If it was a Santana or alike, it would be more about like $4,000 - $10,000. $3,500 is a deal if its as good as you said. Yea Toyota motorhomes go fast. In So Cal anyway... you have to jump on them. I bought a beat up 82 Sunrader 18' for $2,000 and the guy had 2 or 3 other guy coming to look at it that day (day after post). I was the first one.
  2. Yea whats a clipper? Never heard of one? lets see some pictures.
  3. How long? Somewhere between $8,000 - $17,000 Whos it made by?
  4. I hear that you can't drive with gas on, cloges the pipe cause its not level, as said above. Gypsy, I have bought a NEW Dometic 3 way ice box type fridge for my sunrader that I am going beable to level with shims when parked. Like $300, not bad. I too will almost never be level. About as big as one of the small fridges inside.
  5. So what the deal with air bags? Both of mine don't work, don't know why? How do you use them? Why do you have to use them if you have leaf springs? Can I run them with no air in them/not working? How does this come in to play with using 5 lug? I know nothing about them or how they work or what to look for to fix.
  6. Looks pretty worked. What happend to the back of the roof? Looks like some kids had there way with some rocks. Its an 81 or newer, you can tell by the head lights.
  7. That was a killer of a deal!!! I paided $2000 for a worked over 82 Sunrader with 126,000k on it with 5 lug axle. I want your! haha
  8. All my pictures are on this post (don't know if you've seen it) http://www.toyotamotorhome.org/forums/inde...?showtopic=1049 Are you plaining a remodel on an older one yourself? A lot of work... Good luck and hope to see your new motorhome soon.
  9. I want one! Like a sunrader...
  10. Hey leightonward, wecome. What I did was looked at all the pictures I could find online and on this site. Don't think there's all that many different layout, 3 or 4 main one (could be wrong). If you look at motorhomes made before 87 (I think) beware of the stock 5 lug nut recalled axle. Read the "Axle Facts" on this site to see what its all about. Toyota motorhomes are great! Good MPG and can be bought cheap. I went with a 82 Sunrader 18' about 4 months ago, now restoring. Never really used it yet... But I think is great still anyways! What size were you looking at getting? I'd go look at some off of craigslist to get a feel for what you want.
  11. Yea my front windows are very wavy and cracked. I hope they don't leak.
  12. What am I going to trim the ceiling with? What to you mean? moldings? I'm going to panel the whole inside with real wood paneling, then clear coat it. No molding, just cut to fit. On the ceiling I'm going to put 3 beams up 1 3/4'' x 2 1/2'' Like a little log cabin/ open beam ceiling. As I tell my friends its going to be a $100,000 motorhome inside when I get done haha. Bath room is going to be very, VERY small! No heater, no hotwater heater, no fuse box panel, no oven. Putting in a 30lbs propane ice box, burners, water tank, sink, toilet and holding tank, Thats it. All water is going to be run off of boat galley foot pumps. Propane tank is going where the passenger seat is under the dashboard in a metal box with the vent out the side of the passanger door, behind that is going to be a cabinet for clothes with the door on the inside of the motorhome. Motorhome will be closed off to cab. I have a 45 watt solar panel on the roof that should run all my power (it has too). AC, I'm at the beach in So Cal, we don't need no stinking AC. Didn't have one on it anyway + it would use power. Yes I did put on all the wood framing on everywhere with screws to hold it tell bondo went off, have to bondo all the holes!
  13. I bought a 18' sunrader with the 5 lug as well. Guy I bought it from said he broke the axle a couple of years ago, but he was living in it and had it loaded down and told me that he tow a car behind it sometimes. They changed it out with a new iner axle, still a 5 lug. I'm going to call it good and drive it. Not going to drive it far or fast 50 - 55 + plus I'm going to lighten it up alot. Some people say its ok to drive the smaller 18' ones with the 5 lug, and do. Others say its not safe and say to change them. If it has the 5 lug it better be cheap. If they want over $3000 I woulden buy it. I hear to change them out yourself its anywhere from $1200 - $2000 if you can find parts that its...
  14. Here's some updates on my ride. I cut the middle part of my roof off my 18' sunrader, rebraced it with 5/8 thickness wood stuck on with Bondo (sounds crazy but it works good), did the walls too and put a 5/8 ply wood floor in over the old one. Glassed in all the holes cut in the side for vents and stuff. Cut up the shower in 8'' strips, laminated 2 layers of fiberglass on them for the right thickness. Then I bought a couch to go in the back of the RV, but the only way to get it in is thur the big hole in the roof. So strapped it on the bucket of my dads tractor and lowered it in. Lifted the top back on to 4x4 blocks cut at 8'', screwed braces on the outside to hold till glassed. Cut the Shower strips to fit in and screwed them in place. Glassed the inside in its done. (other then bondo the outside seam) Inside: 6'6, outside: very tall! Not going to drive it much, mostly just chasing a dream living at the Beach and surfing all day. What do you guys think it will cut my MPG down to? (Haha first I have to get it to start) Top off: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v322/Yostfmx/DCP_2798.jpg Roof on the floor: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v322/Yostfmx/DCP_2814.jpg Couch going in: 1 http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v322/Yostfmx/DCP_2824.jpg Couch going in: 2 http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v322/Yostfmx/DCP_2826.jpg Couch in: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v322/Yostfmx/DCP_2830.jpg Putting roof on: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v322/Yostfmx/DCP_2834.jpg Roof seting up on blocks: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v322/Yostfmx/DCP_2835.jpg Crazy blocks I had to make for the front and back: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v322/Yostfmx/DCP_2841.jpg Roof done: outside http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v322/Yostfmx/DCP_2855.jpg Roof done: inside http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v322/Yostfmx/DCP_2849.jpg Painted black wheels: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v322/Yostfmx/DCP_2812.jpg
  15. Yea I'll post the roof raising pictures soon. Didn't take the carb apart yet, but I did put a 12V 1-4 PSI add on fuel pump with a switch in cab to turn on and off. This is what my brother did to his boat and he said thats what they do to the old dunebuggies. He said to flip it on and pump the gas pedal 5 time and it should pump a bunch of gas in carb, start it, then flip of the 12v pump. Did it and makes no differents? I looked in the carb with pump on and someone pumping the gas pedal, nothing? I took off the gas line that goes right in to the carb with the 12v pump on and there was gas pumping out of the line. So gas is going in to the carb but just not making it to the butterfly pipe thingy. Think I'm going to have to take the carb apart now...
  16. Fuel was so full I coulden't tell till I took off. It was all the way to the top of the window with fuel but still seems like its not getting the gas where it need to be to start. I've tried all differnet ways of pumping the gas pedal seems to do nothing. Best way to start it is pump the gas pedal a very little bit, maybe an 1/8'' - 1/4'', thats when it will catch and its starts to start then stops 1 or 2 time then it will start. It hesitates if I push the gas down to fast for the 10 mins till its warm. If I try to give to much gas pedel it won't start at all, if I pump it before does nothing I can tell, think its getting air and not the enough gas for some reason, but pour gas in carb, fire very quit. Its got me? moosepucky I think I know how what you ment now about taking the air cleaner off and work the throttle and seeing gas squirting, I have to look way down at the butterfly down in there to see gas. I'll try tomorrow. Thanks for everyones help! coulden't have done most of this with out you guys... Tomorrow another day...
  17. Thanks I'll take some more pictures. I tried to hook it up to somthing close by that was capped. Didn't do anything. I'll try and cap it. Yea I did find two other things that where capped. I have a Chilton book 70-89 but the lowest they go on the vacuum diagram is 1984. Not the same... What I can tell is it comes out at the bottom of the 4 line vacuum lines (4 lines made in a ribbon), the one closest to the front of the truck. The other sides of the 4 lines go to 2 vacuum sensors (I think thats what they are) Oh and its a California truck (smogg) Oh you meant the butterfly thats you can see down in the carb? That I don't know. Man this thing is stressin me out.
  18. Haha pretty funny what the guy wrote. Thats thing is beat! 4th or 5th motor, that can't be...?
  19. Which one? When standing at the front of the truck the one on the right moves free and smooth no slack or play, the one on the left (thats stays open) has a little play slide on the rode. Never really rebuild a carb but I did take the carb off my DRZ 400 (4 stroke dirt bike) and took it apart and changed the needle and jet, thats it. I was going to soak parts in acetone. I just hope I don't take it apart a springs a what not shoot out. Oh do you use sealant on the gaskets or dry? I took off the AAP again today cause I put the spring on the wrong side of the bladder. Didn't chang anything. But did start it cold this morning with a little cap full of gas poured into carb, half a crank and it started. Checked the little float bowl window and was either full or had nothing in it, so I took off the window and it was full. So... now what? What would you say is wrong? I know it can't get enough gas on starts. I want to try to get that missing hose hooked up before I take the carb apart. Couldn't that be the problem? Or is it no big deal? I found the hose diagram, Heres a picture of it> I can't make heads or tails of it. Don't know what anything is around the motor? Missing hose picture: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v322/Yostfmx/DCP_2860.jpg Hose diagram picture: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v322/Yostfmx/DCP_2866.jpg If someone could see where that hose goes to on theres I would much appreciate it, would be a life saver! Haha I could keep it the way it is and no one can steal it! cause they cant start it.
  20. I'll try to look for that diagram and look for the window. And its a 1982 22R 4cyl I doubt I'll be able to find where that hose goes? I may try to take apart the carb today, have the rebuild kit. That Weber looks cool but its $300, if I can't fix the carb myself I'll probably buy one. So they're all ready to go when you get them, just bolt on and start? or do you half to set the float to your year?
  21. Yea I read alot about the AAP with hard starting. Changed it along with the AP, old one did seem to be ok. Ok, changed some things today New parts list to date that have been changed: AP AAP Other diaphragm checked PCV valve check Fuel filter Fuel pump All new fuel lines from the gas tank to all the way to carb New battery Changing plugs and plug wires tomorrow. moosepucky your the man!!! I tried what you said and no gas, none at all, its it supost to come out that copper pipe in the right chamber? (when looking at it from the front of the truck). Both sides are bone dry. Had my Dad drop some gas in it and it started in 1 1/2 cranks. There the problem! Just found something 10mins ago, I found a pipe that comes off the carb that has nothing atached to it, too small for a gas line I think. I need help, if anyone has a clue what it goes to that would be a big help! Link to the picture is below> and something else in the picture is what looks like someone "fix job" with a melted hose, or is that what the pipe goes to? don't think so. What do those 5 hoses do anyway? http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v322/Yostfmx/DCP_2860.jpg
