  1. I had originally went through and ordered the  35520-22021 one from Toyotapartsdeal only for them to tell me after waiting 3 days that it was no longer available. I have someone who possibly able to make me a new one based off the old broken one but would like to have that as a last resort. I am going to try and call my other local Toyota dealership and see if the parts person there is anymore helpful or could point me in another direction. The one on ebay looks like it will work too but I would rather get a new cable and not have to deal with this again. Thank you for everyones help. I orginally thought that the 3552035030 part number would work but gave up on it when the Toyota parts person told me it would not. I thought it should work because it is for an 84 truck but I will see what the dealer says tomorrow.

Thank you again for all the help and everyone make sure you keep yours lubed up.

Looks like I can't copy and paste the website I use for parts anymore but your part number is

    35520-22021

The exact part number for our 86's has been discontinued but it says this earlier one will fit. Available from Toyota

Thank you so much. I will be spraying the new cable very often after the headache this has caused me. Thanks for all the help.

  3. Turns out I did not find the right cable. I have talked to my local Toyota dealer but they were not much help and could only tell me that the right part I thought I had did not match with my VIN. It seems like the cable is also called a detent cable but I have only been able to find them for 4 runners of the same year. I am going to call some local transmission shops to see if they have any ideas or sources. If anyone reads this and has any suggestions it would be great. The part number that I thought would work is 3552035030 but Toyota told me otherwise.

Any help would be awesome. Thanks. Brody

It's probably broken from water intrusion ( cable rusted) and held in the extended position if it just snapped it would shift way too early. The throttle cable is much stouter than the shift cable so a good stomp on the gas snapped the inner cable in the extended position. They are pretty good transmissions and they were used in different configurations for decades. It's not a bad job to replace the cable (oily yes but) Toyota at least gave you a drain plug in the pan.  The ideal is to replace the cable adjust the upper end until the stop is close to the end of the outer cable. You may need to change the adjustment after a test drive if it shifts too soon adjust the outer cable inward too late slacken it. Now here is the next hint if the fluid is dark do not get carried away and have it flushed just replace the fluid you lost it may take around 4 qts.do not buy into the SYN oil scheme just plain vanilla trans fluid. There is no real filter just a fine screen easy to clean and reinstall.

Thank you. I was able to find the new cable and is going to come the fastest directly from toyota. Is there somewhere in the forums I can find the part number for the transmission pan gasket? I have been trying to find it but have not been successful.

There is a small cable on the throttle body left side facing the engine make sure that it is not stuck in the extended position. It has a small stop on the cable and that should return to the end of the outer cable at rest. if it is sticking out at rest the cable is bound up. It is called a TV cable (throttle valve) it controls the shift points in relation to the engine speed.

Your right! Thank you. Mine is stuck in the extended position. It seems like it is not connected at all because it freely came out about a foot but I did not want to pull it all the way out. I tried tracing the cable down but it seems to go on top of the transmission and I cannot see where it ends. I am going to do some more research and see if this is something I can do on my own or If I have to bring it somewhere. Thank you again.

  6. I recently picked up my 86 Mirage and at the time needed repair and a decent amount of work done to it. When I got it it was not in driving condition and I have just recently gotten it registered and insured so I can begin driving it and working a few things out. When driving it and trying to get it up to speed I have not been able to get it out of first gear. It has the a43d automatic tranny and has been sitting a couple years. Reverse works but I can not get it out of first. The fluid looks pretty clean and is at the right level. The camper has 47k miles on it with the 22RE. Not sure what I should be trying to do. I have called a few transmission shops to try and find out some possible causes but they all want to look at it first. I figured I would post on here first to get some advice before I bring it anywhere or if anyone has had a similar problem.

    I appreciate any responses greatly,

  7. Hello,

I recently got myself an 86 Mirage with a bathroom. It's an auto with the 22RE. I was taking the tires off to flush the brake fluid when on the driver side I broke two studs and their lug nuts right off. After doing my research which I wish I did before it looks like the threads are reversed. So now I need to order obviously the new left hand studs, left hand lug nuts and I am not sure what the backside nuts for the stud should be. I found the left hand studs, left hand lug nuts but I do not know if the backside nuts are also left handed or not or if they are "normal".

Thanks, any help would be great on the back nuts for the studs.

  8. Hello,

I just got my first Motorhome an 86 Mirage with a bathroom and shower in the back. I am looking to for an owners manual online but have not had any luck. I also need to buy a new waste water tank as the one I have has a hole in it and am not sure where to look for what size and specification I need. I am sure I will be posting on here a lot. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks,

    Brody
