  1. Hey Buick, I just joined...GREAT JOB on your renovation, I wouldn't even have the guts to start something like that! I am wondering how you did the paint? Did you have to rip off any of the wallpaper, or just apply a primer over it? What brands and products did you use to get such a nice painted look on the ceiling etc? Thanks!

I actually scuffed up the wallpaper and then used 3m spray glue and the indoor outdoor carpet from Lowes (54 cents a linear foot, very light). It really helped to make the rader quiet while driving. I sold her a while ago. I used the same carpet in the closet, overhead cabinets, entry way, cab carpet, and door panels. Its really good stuff. I spent about 1.5 years on her.

  2. I didnt get around to painting the dash this weekend, i did however removed the last bit of shag carpeting in the uper cabinets and replaced it with the same carpeting as the rest of the interior. Looks and smells new. I'll post some pictures later in the week with the newly redone and made cushions.

  3. Your correct, the buckets from toyota 4runners 90-95, and toyota trucks 89-95 with bucket seats will drop right in. I have read that camry seats from the same years will work as well. I have placed 94 integra seats in my 93 toyota truck with a little modifications.

  4. I originally bought the rader for camping while doing some off road riding. Shortly after buying it I started to work on her right away weekend after next, during this same time I bought a 93 toyota extra cab truck with a camper shell. I bought a small trailer (that I was going to use with the motorhome) that I used with the 93 when camping, Its not bad for 2 or 3 nights. The other reason for selling is that I am shelling out $80 a month to store it indoors, paying insurance etc. I love this rader, but I just dont use it like I thought I would. I also caught the adventure bike bug since my buddies have been buying them and prepairing for a california to alaska trip that I want to do.

  5. its the commecial carpet from lowes, 54 cents a square foot. Its very pliable. Ill take some pictures of the cushions once I get them back from the upholstery shop. Unfortunately for me I am going to be selling her in April, after 2 years and 200 miles I have just never took her out. I have worked on it, put new tires on her, new tranny cooler, and the list goes on. I know ill miss her, I have had more people give me thumbs up when they drive by.

  6. I finally got around to removing the maroon seats and door panels in my 89 rader. I was going to use Acura Integra seats in it but decided to go ahead and put in my seats from my 93 toyota sr5 pickup. The seats are uber comfortable for long distance and highly adjust able. I redid the door panels as well. What do you think?

  7. Looking good Buick

I'm curious about the carpet on the walls. Is that the indoor/outdoor carpet I see at Home depot that's not super thick? Did you glue it or staple it to the wall?

It appears that you removed the windows so the carpet will fit under the window flange.

Thanks, yep thats the carpet, I used the 3m glue to place it on the walls. I used a razor blade to cut arround the windows. Heres a few more pics:

  8. Sorry John, late to the party, as usual. If you're still looking for de-install hints etc. I will just say that doing this is tough to do without scaffolding across the hood. Possible maybe to use 2 good sturdy ladders with a 2 x 12 (or two 2x6's stacked) pushed through steps depending on a person's weight. There is a rubber bead that can be tough to find the ends of in the center of the stock gasket for the windows, Take an awl and carefully pry out the end when you find it. See below:

If it is old, it may come out in pieces. Otherwise, it can be carefully pulled out all the way around the perimeter. Once it is out, if not caulked, the gasket will fold right back into the interior. You may need a thin plastic putty knife lubricated with soapy water to separate the gasket. The window can then easily be pushed back into the overhead bunk area.

The install is outlined in one of the other links before mine.

    BR,

    Toyoguy

    Thanks!!!

  9. I finished the carpeting of the storage bench, walls, and the closet. Looks vastly better. The cushions are going in this week for some grey tweed material. I'll post up the pictures when done. Im at 95% completion as of now. Id estimate about 100 hours so far and counting. Last thing to do is replace the front window and finish the floor trim work.

  10. Thanks, totally appreciate it. Ive actually been thinking about selling it, I had a buyer in the LA area that Im keeping in contact with. Just dont know if I want to or what price to ask. its got 83k miles, new topend end, new tires, and the work you see here. I just carpeted the closet and storage bench I built. What do these things go for?

  11. Its almost done, but I havent used it in over a year! I think I'm going to go ahead and part with it. The reason I would keep it is in case I loose my job and my house! I am finishing up the entertainment system (dvd player, amp, 2 sets of component speakers and a sub woofer for those longer trips.
