Most evap tests are not sniffer tests. They are a simple pressure test. ie your fuel system must hold a certain pressure for so long of a time period. A bad gas cap, a cracked hose, the canister cracked are the usual suspects.

WME do you know if a carburetor can also cause that to fail. ?

  2. i think its the EVAP canister that needs replacing. but i will also buy a new gas cap.

i have an evap canister from an 87 toyota pick up that i used to have. am sure it should fit my 84 dolphin. i need to pass this smog and get it to my name.

doing major tune up as well. what you guys using in oil? mine is 84 with 87k miles and do i need to be aware of anything while changing cap and rotor?

    >new cap and rotor.

    >new NGK spark plug with NGK platnium spark plugs.

    >gas filter

    >oil changed . new oil filter

    >air filter

  3. hello toyota community.

has anyone failed Fuel EVAP test during smog test. that can share any tips on how to resolve the issue.

i passed all the other components of smog check. but only failed fuel EVAP test.

thank you in advance for any help provided.

  4. hello all,

    i need help.

i did smog check right before xmast and it passed everything except "Fuel Evap Test" i knew i had a fuel problem because when i pumped gas i would see it drip on filler hose.

the next day i was heading to San Francisco and the car was shaky. i took it back to the smog place as i had seen they did some type of adjustment on carburetor when they were doing smog test.

they told me that they can re adjusted to how it was before but when i came back to do smog retest that they would not be able to do any adjustments. so that it was up to me.

before i went to do retest . i change the filler hose hoping that would take care of the fuel evap problem ..

i also adjusted the carburetor, but that is where i messed up cause i really didn't know how to do that. then the truck started acting funny like it would turn off. and it would be accelerated. when i did the retest it faile because "has idle surge" will need to take to certified auto repair shop to get idle inspected-evap test has gross leak.

can anyone help me / guide me how to adjust carburetor to normal position. i think there are 3 different places to adjust. one is the vacuum, the fuel and the idle. i don't have a picture at the moment but its a 1984 toyota dolphin 22R with carburetor

i've attached both print out when smog check was done. the retest was not actually done because they said it was idle to high and that it would also turn off.

  5. Hello All,

i regret not taking before pictures. but i think we all know how old and ugly an original "1980's" interior looks like.

i just want to show my remodeled/updated Dolphin. well not completely finished. i need a few more drawer/cabinets painted.

i pretty much did a back splash on the kitchen, painted cabinets white, i used the same hardware but i also painted them, i installed hardwood floor. (☺)

fixed a small leak on the kitchen sink.

i also installed a waterproof laminate in the bathroom. carpet looked so ugly before. and am in the process of buying a new toilet and painting the bathroom interior. (any thoughts on what paint to use? i was thinking just exterior paint or rustoleum white paint and spraying that "never wet" on top of paint.

and the most important upgrade of all...lol  .my 2 month fist baby boy! you can see him helping me..lol by him sleeping that a big help..☺☺

It does appear to be a water inlet but maybe there is a screw on part that is missing to make it a male fixture. I would just replace it. New ones can be bought for less than 10 bucks

    https://www.ebay.com/sch/Exterior-/50069/i.html?_nkw=rv+water+inlet

For the car seat. If it has the snap in base I would install seat belt in back of and behind the front seats to secure it to the floor. Bolting it in is also an option but then you couldn't move it to your other vehicles. A seat belt set is not expensive. It will be too long but if your wife sews or you know someone who does they can be easily shortened. Putting baby there will allow your wife to see and take care of him or her. Please make sure everything in the camper is put away or secured though. One quick stop can send stuff flying. I even put my table away in the bathroom so it can't come loose

Thank you Linda. you're always helpful. i will buy that part and try to put it

i never taught about bolting it, but sounds like a good idea. as we have another car seat, so the base staying there won't be much of an issue.

am just worried if we ever got pulled over if that would be legal?

thank you again and Merry Christmas

  7. Hello everyone and Happy Holidays!

i am not a full timer RV but would like to get input on where you all carry a new born car seat.

i have 1984 toyota dolphin with two seats in the front. there is a couch in the house but no seat belts.

i had a 87 before and it had a bench seat which could accommodate 3 people with the middle being a small child.

are we legally allowed to put a car seat on the passenger side since we don't have airbags? but i would like a better option as my wife will be riding there on our road trips

    any suggestions would be appreciated.

also am not sure where to plug city water to my dolphin20181213_091023.jpg.91eddc27340ee8e0ede18339c813b371.jpg

would these be the ones you saw ?  I had to replace the vent hose (kinked ). Wouldn't take on gas except real slow. New hose did the trick. I suggest you take the outside plate off then crawl under it and un- hook the hoses and just pull them out the top. I put great stuff in ours before to discourage the mice from getting in. In fact I filled all the exterior holes with it. They quit getting inside. There were holes every where where they ran wires in the rear and also under the commode and grey water and black tanks were the biggest holes.

Hey Homer. i don't think this is the one I saw. lol. . but thanks for the pictures. i see from yours that the hose is attached to a pipe which looks to be rusted.  is it possible to also change that pipe? mine is a 1984 Toyota dolphin

  9. I appreciate everyone's input.

but would still like the link to the thread here that someone posted with pictures.

i know I've seen one before. but can't seem to find it now that i need it.

I know i can do this myself. but i always like to see how other people did it. or any tips they have.

please if someone can find the thread and link it up . i would really appreciate it.

  10. Hello Everyone,

i have a 2 quick question. i test my water heater and it turns on fine and i just filled up my propane tank so i know its full.

    1. the stove burners (4 of them) all turn on fine. but when i try the oven the pilot comes on and stays on, but when i turn it to like 350 nothing happens? any suggestions how to get it to work?

    2. also am trying to turn on the furnace/heater but i am not sure how or where the pilot is located. i tried turning on the thermostat on and putting in on heat temperature and i do hear a sort of fan noise coming on. an i can feel air (not hot) on the furnace.  i did a little research but am not sure if am correct. does that thermostat/fan need to been ON prior to turning on the furnace pilot. it does have a push button to ignite but i don't see any spark being made when i press it. i want to turn it on with a lighter. but i don't even know where the flame comes out so i can put the lighter. and am scare to burn any wires there. any suggestion?

thanks everyone in advance for your help.
