  1. You can also get and install a hard start kit . It is a cap and electronic relay. It will kick start your compressor up to 500%. They are sold buy compressor hp and voltage. From what you described your compressor is kicking off on the snap disk overload that is mounted under the plastic cover on the compressor, it will over heat from high amp draw and snap open breaking the electrical circuit shutting off the compressor then when it cools down it will make and the compressor will come back on. Not good to let this cycle continue as it is overheating the windings in the compressor if they get hot enough it will burn the shellac off the windings and cause a short. If a hard start or new cap doesn't start it your compressor it could be mechanically stuck. You could pull an amp draw on it . There should be a data tag on the compressor that gives the LRA amp draw ( locked rotor amps).
  2. Darren I have this same problem on my odyssey. In the same area but not as bad. I have corrugated fiberglass paneling on mine and all my seams , hatches and Windows need to be resealed. The plan I have come up with is to remove the lower panels on both sides of the camper I am also going to remove the flooring the previous owner installed( not to my standards). Then I am going to screw and epoxy 2x2 blocks under the floor even with the edge of the floor with good deck screws going in from the top of the floor into pre-drilled holes so the wood does not split and maybe squirt some epoxy into the screw holes before the screws go in. Then after applying more epoxy on the vertical face of the blocks I'm going to pull / push the camper sides in using a big yellow ratchet strap and or 2x4s as spring poles to pull/push the camper side into the epoxyd blocks and then pre-drill, epoxy and screw the side panel in. Then reinstall the fiberglass siding and then I can re putty tape / all the hatches windows. If needed I can draw and post a diagram of the process described above.
  3. A friend gave me my camper and the tires looked good, one of the valve stems on the rear dually went bad so I took it to discount tire and they wouldn't touch them because they were seventeen years old. They won't touch anything over ten years old. I put all new rubber on the rig. The front tires were only 5 years old but were the wrong load range so we did those to. I'm not going to mess around with something that could kill you if it goes bad.
  4. Ok thanks linda that clears it up now in my mind . Then I will go for it they only have two rims so I will want to find a third but this puts me closer to my goal of what I want to do to my rig I will post pics of how it turns out when I do it. Thanks for helping an old fart out I do appreciate all the help Peace out oldgriz.
  5. Thanks that cleared that up linda mentioned it in her post above but I wasn't sure. That means that I can't use a the hole with a six hole on the same side. Which won't work for me as I want them all the same so I only have to carry one spare . The search continues for three six hand hold dually rim's Thanks for the info I appreciate it.
  6. My issue was not placement I just wanted to know if they would fit on the front or back. As long as they work I don't care if they look all the same . as far as over thinking it when it comes to spending money you bet, considering so many people don't think at all ill take that as a compliment.?????
  7. Hi linda I have six lug dually rear rims and five lug rims on the front and no spare tires for either so the plan is to convert the front to six lug and then I only need one spare tire. I don't care if I have six and three hand hold rims , but I would like to be able to use them front or back.
  8. I have the six hand hold rear dually rims on my 86 . I might have a lead locally on two of the six lug three hand hold rims so I am wondering if the will interchange with the ones I have. The dually rims I have use cone lug nuts. And yes I am aware of the reverse threads.
  9. I have a question that maybe hopefully the members can answer on six lug dually rims some have six hand holes and some have only three. Are they interchangeable? do they have the same lug spacing? Thanks oldgriz.
  10. Thanks linda s I will call them but not for springs I don't want to risk a used spring. I will probably just bite the bullet and take it to the spring shop. I am also looking for dually rims and front one ton suspension. They are about 4 hours away.
  11. Thanks for the good luck I go back to work on the 9th . Yeah I guess it's like a lot of thing's these day's you just order one from China.????
  12. Yes they quoted $600.00 to rebuild what I have or $1,200.00 to install all new. Just seems to me to be expensive. If I can but the spring packs and hardware I can do it myself and save some money. I have the tools and knowhow to do it. But I want it done right and beefed up for the weight. So I may just byte the bullet and take it to the spring shop. But I like to research thing's before I spend my hard earned money. And right now I have the time since I'm laid up recovering from surgery. I got nothing but time.
  13. Crap your lucky to be alive. Someone side swipe you.
  14. Linda my camper is registered as a 1987 but the plate on the firewall in the engine compartment is stamped july 1986. I keep forgetting that . The vin number says RN75 = 137 inch wheel base. I've built and messed with cars and trucks. I have a pretty nice shop that includes a milling machine and a metal lathe and welders and a son who is a professional welder and fabricator. That doesn't mean it will be easy but the rockcrawler guys convert to straight axles all the time.
  15. Yes linda my odyssey is the newport model and the vin decodes to RN75 or a 137 inch wheel base and according to the floor plan literature I have it is suitable for four wheel drive I am seriously considering upgrade to 4x4 at some time in the future as I want to put either a vortex v6 automatic trans with a gearvenders over drive unit or a 302 ford small block with same transmission set up I have a spare rebuilt 302 ford and c-4 transmission this is popular with the toyota rock crawling crowd as the distributor is up front. But it might be overkill and I do want to get good gas mileage. The 4x4 conversion is being considered because to put a biger engine in it the front will have to be rised for engine clearance. But the rear springs are going to have to be addressed first. I just put all new rubber on the road runner ( that our name for the camper based on upgrade goals and ware we live ) it had 17 year old rubber on it when it was given to us.
  16. Yes McBrides is the one I will use if I can't do it myself, but if I can source the springs I will do it as I have a pretty good shop set up and can handle most repairs myself.
  17. That seems to be the game you pay for insurance but then have to produce the pope to speak on your behalf to collect on a claim. Insurance is the biggest scam and progressive and USAA are not good on paying out on claims.
  18. No I can't re arch the springs the spring shops here said they can cold form them ( bend) and research says this does not last. I will take some measurements and do as linda said. But you would think that the specs would be known by the spring places on the net. I'm going to have my rig weight taken. I'm working on putting a chevy vortec v6 auto trans gearvendrs overdrive combo in the camper the four banger is way under powered . I'm always driving it with the pedal to the floor to make it move in traffic. I'm also looking at converting the front to one ton suspension or four wheel drive.
  19. Bit of a drive and we have abstained from driving it till the springs are fixed. It's sagging pretty well on the driver side. The spring shops here in Albuquerque do not re arch buy heating them anymore is what the two shops told me. Cold forming? So if there going to order them in I might as well do it myself and save some money. I do want to beef them up. I have been looking at air bags but the guy at the spring shop didn't recommend it.
  20. I know that is what we are finding our rig only has 45 thousand miles on it. Maybe that's the key to it finding someone to appraise it?
  21. Hi everyone was looking for information on sourcing new heavy duty rear springs for my 1987 odyssey camper. I know I can take it to a spring shop and have the existing ones rebuilt for $600.00 or fully replaced for $1,200.00 (quote) which seems high to me for what it is. I have a very complete shop at home. So if I could just have a set delivered with hardware i could install them myself and save some money. Drivers side rear spring pack is missing one leaf out of it, that's how I got it and trying to up grade the foundation before the remodel.
  22. I have only liability insurance on my 1987 odyssey which specifically requires less that 55 days a year of use but my wife and I would like to use it more. But having a hard time finding full coverage because of the age of the camper. So I was wondering what and who all the full timers are using and how much per year is it costing. Right now we have progressive and they will not work with us. So looking to up grade so we are protected. Thanks oldgriz.
