  1. Good for you putting on loads of miles! .. I hope to " Wear mine out" too! I am considering using mine for casual trips to town, just to keep things working etc, on the Other hand, wondering.. " save the miles?" doesn't make much sense at this point.. 80k miles.. 86 sunrader.. BUT, with gas as high as it is.. I just jump in my pickup truck instead.. but, I would like to hear more opinions about using it OFTEN instead of 'sitting' . 15 MPG? .. 7 miles to town.. so, $5 a trip, vs my pickup? well, I don't keep close track of mileage in it, so, even at Half? .. its Not that much More, right? I guess, my Main problem, I kinda Back mine into a spot at home.. not difficult, I put a backup camera on it.. so, perhaps, I WILL drive it More now'!
  2. sorry you missed it.. I missed a couple of 'deals' befor I was able to Pull the trigger, but, I'm very happy now, and, more time lets you learn more about what you want. Good luck next time!
  3. my Sunrader monitor has a Million wires to it... I checked, blew the dust, etc... I think, just looking thru the toilet valve gives me a fair idea of THAT tanks level.. guess its the Worst one to be Surprised! ... any advise from Sunrader monitor repairers? thanks!
  4. well, I found my Sunrader! .. and, about 3 min into driving it home I was SO Glad it was an auto.. NO way would I be as happy with a standard.. sorry, did that when I was a teen, NO need now... still averaged about 15 mpg on my way home.. ( running AC Sucked the gas! oh my!)
  5. I just got my sunrader, and, testing each unit one at a time... mine has a 'gas and polution' detection unit... at first, I just turned the knob, and,, it made a noise... THEN, I read it, set it, at #2, for a few min, then #3, #4 .. no noise... so, I grabbed my small propane torch.. let out alittle gas, and, Bingo! the detector Beeped! .. so, this seems like a very cool feature! I'm curious to anyone that knows.. do you just turn this on, while traveling? or ? Leave it on? what does it run off? 12 volts? and, How much juice does it drain? .. seems like pretty good insurance..
  6. To: Toyota USA / Toyota Canada The goal of this petition is to request the importation or the release of diesel versions of all Toyota models available in North America. The World outside of North America and particularly European nations have had the luxury year after year to purchase a diesel engine in any Toyota model from the Yaris Diesel to the Land Cruiser Diesel (Not available in North America, and it should be). North America is fed inferior gas engines. Regulations have now put ultra low sulphur diesel at all gas stations, which is a much cleaner form of diesel. Diesel is a more efficient fuel and we as North Americans are demanding the fast tracking of diesel engines to the North American market by Toyota. We want it here now. We encourage all the Toyota owners , future owners and fans to fill this petition. Sincerely, http://www.petitiononline.com/TOYD4D/
  7. nice rig! would Love to hear details on your A/C .. it has been mentioned here.. using something Other than the typical roof mount units.. do you have a gen you run it with? or ?
  8. well, Bajadulce, very interesting project! .. I was wondering if anybody had transplanted a sunrader onto another vehicle.. so, make this a 'sticky' and keep us informed!
  9. wonder if anybody has thought of, or Done this... ? I talked to someone selling a toyota rv.. his dad used a 'portable' A/C unit, with a generator.. I guess, one that you put into a window... ? I didn't SEE it, just thought that was an interesting solution...
  10. good job brian! my sister went an looked at that one.. she passed.. but, Mainly, because of the " brother" .. the owner was really nice, she mentioned things that needed fixing, but HE just kept saying " its a Steal!" .. quite the salesman.. NOT! I started to post you a warning, but, my cable crapped out.. then, I thought, well, Not my business to interfer.. let you get your own opinion... I Must say.. the Pictures sure LOOK good.. very decieving... we must all beware!
  11. NOW we're TAlking!.. Camping, and eatin! great combo! and, wife would Love to be WARM on a chilly morning!
  12. hello, I am Looking to buy a toyota motorhome.. I'm leaning toward AUTO trans.. lazy I guess? but, I see many ads for standard trans, and, I am Overlooking them.. we just took a trip, and when in Seattle area.. traffic was HORRIBLE... I can just Imagine.. riding the clutch on such an occasion... so, I'm not so worried about best gas milage, more to the point.. problems with driving with a standard, AND, eventual expense of replacement clutch, etc.. thanks
  13. I was curious IF you campers used your ovens or NOT.. and, are micros more popular?
  14. ok, and, Thanks to those who answered my first questions! well, a Lifetime ago.. when I was a youngman.. I made a camper for my pickup... wife Hates to camp, so, I had it All, hot/cold running water, shower, toilet... on an 8 ft truck.... I'm a cabinetmaker by trade.. so, this was just a fun project... now, I think I"d like Less work, and More fun.. but, I'm not afraid of repairs... so Fiberglass or aluminum? which is Lighter? ... which is Most prone to leaks? I looked thru all of the pics on this site... the Sunraders do look sharp! do they also cost/hold their value More? When you are traveling.. does anybody ride in back, maybe fixing lunch, etc while in motion? or.. is this NOT a good idea? can you move easily, from the cab to the coach while in motion? IF you do ride there, is the dinette up front, or in the rear more comfortable for riding? those duel AXLE units look interesting! don't think I"ve ever seen one on the road.. if/when you Do make roof repairs.. would a domed fiberglass roof make sense? I've done very Little fiberglass work, Only making the shower base in my first camper, but, it seems to me, that it is heavy? am I wrong? thanks, I won't thank and respond to each reply, makes thread too long, but, Thanks in advance! John
  15. hello all, well, I stumbled upon this lovely website, and I've been reading abit here and there, but, I"m Full of questions.. and, really would rather Talk to experienced owners than just typing and typing.. but... first, Opinons.. which is best, a 4 cylinder, for economy? or, a 6 cylinder, for more power? I'm spending Loads of time.. Reading ads, etc.. and, I have NOT even been IN one of these things.. IS there room, to take a shower, OR, when you are at a campground, do you just use the pay showers there? questions on purchasing.. What is smarter? .. buy the Obvious 'fixer' or, spend alittle more, and HOPE what you see in the pictures is really Worth it? ARE these things like a boat.. ie: a hole in the water to throw your money into? I can Imagine, if you have.. engine problems, then trans problems.. then the fridge goes out.. then tires, then, then.. in NO time, you can have Several thousand dollars Over your inital investment.. HOW do you feel about, driving a 20 year old vehicle ALL Over the country.. are you confident? or, do you worry? ( I now Own a couple of 20 yo vehicles.. if/when you breakdown.. CAN one of these things be towed on a vehicile trailer? or, are you at the mercy of a tow truck? thanks, I know its alot ... I'd Love to call someone and just Talk about their experiences... I KNOW, those here, Love their homes.. but, it would be nice to hear things to Watch out for also.. John
