Another post got me thinking, this is on my bucket list and a ways off, but hoping for some input.

I have a 93 Toy Sea Breeze. The gen compartment is on the driver side and is 25.5" L 17.5" W and 14" H Approximate #'s The box seems to be fiberglass with a sheet metal lining and fiberglassed plywood floor. All assumptions. How it is attached is a mystery?

The distance from the floor of the compartment to the bottom on the fiberglass trim is 3" and from the bottom of the compartment to the bottom of the vehicle frame is 5"

A quick look at available gensets that might fit shows

The first question for me is what would be the optimal amount to lower the floor and how to go about it? How big could I make it without redesigning the home?

Any input, thoughts, ideas, corrections, pictures, suggestions or wise cracks greatly appreciated. Jim SW FL

Do you intend to make it a permeate place for the generator? If so here is the problem the RV generators exhaust hot air and engine exhaust out the bottom and have a method of pumping fuel from the truck tank so a portable unit inside the camper is not a good ideal. Just storing it would not be a problem. No ideal about enlarging the compartment with out seeing it.

Thanks for the response, I would like to make it a permanent place for the Honda, may not work out? Someone must have done this? I am sure I could go out and cobble something together, but hoping for some good ideas. Jim

You probably don't want to hear this, but your compartment is set up for an Onan Microlite 2.8.

The 2.8 is 24" long x 16.44" wide x 12.25" high. And 113#.

Maybe a cost/benefit analysis should be done. Can a good used microlite be cheaper than trying to modify your existing compartment?

Any practical person with the least bit of common sense would put the Onan in there. That is just not me, there has to be a hard way to do this!! :hyper:

I would say it has a lot to do with how the ventilation is handled as to how suitable it will be. Sure size matters but so does how the heat is handled as well as the exhaust fumes. Probably best to stick to something designed for the purpose rather than purpose modified as this is a critical safety item both for fire and health. Cost savings is not the highest criteria at all times because sometimes the savings don't pencil out when other factors are involved. In this case there is also your labor and materials to be factored in.
