Hi Motorhome Friends My name is Gonzalo, I'm from Argentina region of Patagonia and a couple of years ago we started building our homemade motorhome on a Toyota Hilux 1992 2800 cc diesel.

we stretch the chassis 55 cm

barely we finish we will carry out an ecological project called Hagamos Eco (can find more information in Spanish in www.hagamoseco.com.ar)
To summarize it is a journey from Argentina to Alaska performing tasks aimed at raising awareness about caring for the environment.
Right now we are building our future home and leave you some pictures to see what you think.

Looks pretty neat, so far. How do you like that 2.8 non-turbo diesel, as compared to the turbo 2.4? I don't think the 2.8 ever made it here to the USA. Seems about the right size for an RV. Maybe around the same power and torque as a 2.4 gas engine? Were you around when the British Top Gear crew came though Patagonia?

How does the price of diesel fuel compare to petrol/gasoline where you live?

2.8 liter diesel: 91 HP @ 4000 RPM, and 138 lbs. torque @ 2400 RPM

2.4 gas engine: 105 HP @ 4800 RPM and 137 lbs. torque @ 2800 RPM

Hi, thanks for the opinion, with regard to the comparison between engines I think 2.8 is a bit more to force but does not respond as the 2.4 turbo.
With the stretch that we add to the chassis will be strong and stable to be a mobile home, at least we think we will realize if we need dual once we have finished the project.
Regarding your question of Top Gear, if I was here in Patagonia, but not very happy episode that happened was further south, at the height of the Falkland Islands was not pleasant for anyone and that the Argentine people still pained by the war.
based on your question of the cost of fuel, here in my country the price is similar, in serious dollars 1.4 / liter of both combusibles (may vary a few cents) it is very expensive.
While it comes to buy a 0 km, the price of a car to Diesel is more expensive than a gasoline engine.
Best regards, keep in touch.

Here are some idea that about converting a Toyota MH. Your are starting from nothing, but some of the ideas may work for you.

Espically the idea about having a removable camper, so that you can have a dual use flatbed truck to haul things.

wme thanks for your answer, incredible projects you gave me, I was reading and are very interesting.
The idea that comets me the removable house is very good, but we have decided that it is permanently motorhome.
I will go up more information on the progress of the project so you can go see.

Gonzalo

Here is one more site, it is about home made travel trailers. You can use some of the ideas. Many of the trailers were built from 4cm foam sheets, covered with brown Kraft paper or canvas and protected with waterbased polyurethane (what you use on a wood floor)or a diluted wood glue. Then outdoor house paint to protect everything from UV rays .
