I don't remember where I saw the article but the writer said that the new fan was almost silent and moved twice as much air as the original fan. John Quote

John This one is the right size, 6 inches = 150 mm, and has a silicone gasket to keep vibration noise down. picklebill Posted September 10, 2015 Posted September 10, 2015 I replaced my motor and fan in my Jensen range hood with a muffin fan. I still have the original fan and motor that works. I would recommend going to a computer type fan as they are way quieter and draws about 1/3 the current. IF you still want to replace your fan with the original type you can have mine. How would I connect it to the two-wire (one black, one white) connection which my existing fan uses? Quote
Maineah Posted September 12, 2015 Posted September 12, 2015 Hard to say from the pictures but with computer fans the red and black will power it full speed (fan red+ MH black+) the other wires are for speed control. I put one in mine from any old computer no matter what you use as a replacement some assembly will be required. I can tell you the blades will get dirty fast. Pay attention the the flow arrows on the fan or you'll be pulling air in don't just reverse the wires the fan blades are designed to turn only one direction. Quote

I wrote to Noctua, the company where I can get the right size fan, and they wrote back immediately. I can us the black and red wire on their 3-pin fans, the black and yellow on the 4-pin fans. I'll be sure to watch out for the flow arrows. I plan on making the fan easily removable for cleaning. Looks like it should be pretty simple to create a mounting situation in the existing space. It supposedly still moves about 75 cfm, which should do it.
