A cover fell off while I was driving. This was underneath it. Does anyone know what it is. Thanks.

Sorry. I don’t know why this photo is posting upside down. I tried flipping it.

No drivers side. I think it may be either an old school TCM (transmission control module) or cruise control.

Linda,

I have to thank you. I was concerned that my front windows leaked. You were right that it was the marker lights. When they upgraded to LED they did nothing to seal them. A little butyl tape all round and I’m leak free. Now if I could just get them not to condensate I would be completely dry. This forum rocks!

Found pic of same part on toyotanation. Other posts show members don't think it a factory part. You may be able to find more info from the part number on this one

I did a pretty extensive web search previous to posting. There are a number of them on eBay for both Automatic (mine) and Manual transmissions. I was hoping someone here had personal knowledge. I’ll keep hunting. Thanks.

It’s a pretty big harness so it must be important.

I haven’t dealt with it myself.

Kickdown or converter lockup control perhaps?

Maybe that circuit helps hold a lower gear longer, prevents constant shifting up/down.

Mystery solved. It is a aftermarket Cruise Control. Has a lot of wires. The Cruise Control does not work. Not sure if I should buy another and switch it out. Not sure exactly how Cruise Control works on an older vehicle. I would be nice though if I could get it working.

I found the replacement on eBay. Not a lot of info on the web but here is what I found. Here is some more info if anyone has any opinions/ideas. Thanks.

The old modules like that are pretty bulletproof.  I would start with trying to find installation instructions.  They should have troubleshooting info, hopefully.  If unsuccessful in that search, do the obvious and check fuse, then eliminate those scotch blocks.  If there is a failure, it is most likely in the installation and those are going to be the first things to fail.

Another thought, find any installation instructions from back in those days for cruise control, and you will get a pretty decent idea of what the parts are and what you are looking at.
