Lias Posted October 22, 2024 Posted October 22, 2024 As title indicates the original igniter for the fridge in my 93 Warrior cracked and no longer works on propane. It works on electric. I've taken it in to a reputable RV shop and they contacted Dometic and the igniter is no longer made. They tried an igniter that is supposed to work but no joy. Contacted another shop and they also could not find an oem igniter. Both shops said new replacement fridges were in $1k plus not including labor to install. I'm now contemplating taking it out and using a 12v portable chest compressor fridge or compact home fridge using a separate lifepo4 battery, charge controller and inverter to power (I'm not sure how to change the whole original 12v inverter/converter to lithium). If I do the portable chest I could also use in my suv which would be a plus. Has anyone replaced with either of these options? This guy converted a chest freezer to fridge which I thought was a cool idea Quote
JaySam Posted October 22, 2024 Posted October 22, 2024 I replaced the original 3-way fridge with a Iceco 12v fridge/freezer and it's been working great for 4+ years. Made and built for the abuses of riding around in a camper https://icecofreezer.com I run this off a Lithium battery and there's no need for an inverter as these fridges run on 12v. Startup it pulls a little over 5 amps drops to 3.5 while running. Quote
Lias Posted October 24, 2024 Author Posted October 24, 2024 The 12v fridge sounds like a really good option for me too. Thanks for the reply and link! Quote
V6 Seabreeze 92 Posted April 1 Posted April 1 I have the same fridge and same issue in my Dolphin, I called Dometic and few other places, was told no parts available for the old models. I also posted this issue on this site and had couple of resposes. The bottom line, I could not find the replacement part. Now I am looking at improvising it with a cheap BBQ igniter, costs less than $15. See photo. I tested it out in my garage and it will work in the motorhome. I am waiting for some dry weather so I can wire it. It rains a lot here where I live in NorthWest. Just and idea, if works could same some bucks. Quote
Lias Posted April 3 Author Posted April 3 Interesting. I've no experience with wiring these, if it works for you would you be willing to show/diagram the steps? Still have my dometic fridge installed just in case a solution arises. Thanks Quote
