Planning a trip to Acadia National Park in Maine. Leaving Michigan on 08-29-09 and planning to take the 401 through Ontario.

Has anyone camped on Mt Desert Island or the vacinity?

Have a 1986 Sunrader.

Looking to go surf fishing for Strippers so I think this will be a good time and a decent location.

Thanks

Hello jpyzik: Back in 1978 I spent two weeks vacation in my Dodge Conversion Van camping along Maine's Down East coastline, allocating one week to Mt. Desert Island, Arcadia National Park area. You will find many areas to park your MH.

See attached links:

I stayed at Mount Desert Campground, several nights, but it seems that they now have a 20' RV size limit now:

I camped out at Cadillac Mountain to greet the sunrise July 4th, but there may have been special dispensation given since this is a big annual event with the local citizens and the town of Bar Harbor.

Just be prepared to eat lots of lobster, easily purchased at the wharfs. Also think about purchasing a ride on a friendship sloop sailboat ride, you may even see some whale activity if lucky.

You also might meet Vacationing Canadians from Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia whom took the Blue Nose Ferry over to Bar Harbor. So much to see. Enjoy your vacation. Michael

Go for it I live in Maine and have been to that area many times can't be beat. The trails at the park are wonderful great for biking. There are many outstanding camp grounds I have never heard bad words about any of them. Sea food to die for you'll love it don't forget the camera.

Just got back from a trip there! It is a beautiful part of the world. A less known part of the park is located across the bay at a place called Schoodic Point. Not sure about fishing, or stippers, for that matter, but it is a beautiful spot, much less crowded from the zoo at Bar Harbor. AND best of all, there is what I think is the greatest campground in the whole world. Ocean Wood Campground in Birch Harbor Maine. 1/4 acre sites, many right on the ocean. Sadly, after 24 years, they are getting squeezed out by greedy land developers and corrupt local officials, so this is your last chance to enjoy what is a pristine jewel of a campground. It is in the woods, but has super clean facilities, and has a lovely cobble beach if you don't get an ocean front site. I live about 3 hours away in New Brunswick Canada, and my kids spent every summer playing on the rocks, looking in the tide pools, etc. Lots of sites suited to your 86 Sunrader-We have an 85 Sunrader. What part of Michigan are you from. I grew up in Metro Detroit-Royal Oak, and later Commerce Township. I bought my 'Rader in Waterford last year. Almost 9000 miles later we're still loving it!! Happy Camping!!

Hi jpyzk,

Our first trip in our Sunrader was to Acadia last summer! MDI has two NP campgrounds- you can reserve on line in advance if you know your dates- they also have a few limited walk-up sites available daily. We had no difficulty late August 09 getting a site- no showers available in the park, but there are showers available just outside the park- loved it, hope to get back- Check out College of the Atlantic on Eden street! You can park there and bike in town from there- or stroll about their campus- (we are partial to the school as our son is a student there!) Enjoy the trip
