My Ac needs refilling every 2-3 years in spite of no leaks found.

I would like to find someone who has updated to use later refridgerant.

My understanding is it would require a modern ac compressor and related items.

My local Mechanic says he can't find find a compatible compressor.

Has anyone done this

Thanks,

Chuck

You have a leak somewhere. I updated one of my 94 Pickups, it was just the plug in ports. Easy to do but if you have a leak it won’t help

Yes I know I have a leak  Even If I fix it finding r12 is difficult. I am looking for info on the appropriate compressor for this system.

Not being an expert I wen to an expert who could not locate the appropriate compressor.

You say all you had to do was replace the plug in ports.do you mean the valve cores or the whole port?

What refrigerant did you use. How did you charge the system

Can you give more information or is there a link to a site that covers this?

Obviously although Im a competent mechanic  this is not something I know much about

Thanks,

Chuck

changed my 84 to r134a.  needed to drain all oil, replace the reciever drier, add 134 service ports and recharge.  works fine

I did the exact same thing as extech wrote, except I did not replace the receiver drier and it worked fine.
