WE ARE BACK!  This year the Fall Mid-West Toyota RV Rally will take place in September, the weekend after Labor Day, starting on Thursday, September 9 through Sunday, September 12.  We will be at the Sandwich (County) Fair, about 60 miles west of Chicago, IL.  WE HAVE ONLY A LIMITED NUMBER OF RV CAMPSITES for this Rally, so if you are interested in reserving a site, we suggest you CALL us RIGHT AWAY to avoid being disappointed.  Official reservations are taken only by phone.  Call 626-798-4510 -- Leave a message if you get our business voicemail, and we will call you back.

Announcing the 15th annual Fall Mid-West Toyota RV Rally.  This year it will be held at The Sandwich Fair (DeKalb County Fair) in the town of Sandwich, Illinois (one hour west of Chicago).  This Rally location is a reasonable drive for most Mid-West folks.  If that is you, consider yourself invited.

 

Here’s this description from the Fair’s website:

"HOW IS THE SANDWICH FAIR DIFFERENT FROM OTHER FAIRS?

The grounds are unusually beautiful with many old trees lining the walkways. It has a country/community feel with decorations, and the buildings are historic and attractive.  It has the charm of a smaller fair, but also has much of what a large fair has to offer."

 

The Rally dates are Thursday, September 9 through Sunday, September 12 — three nights.  You are also welcome to stay a day longer to Monday, September 13th, for a 4th night if you like.  Reservations are now being taken by phone; this is not a rally where you can just show up.  The deadline for the early-bird rate is Sunday, August 22. 

 

The RV Park where we will be staying is actually part of the fairgrounds.  (See the website pages and the map links below.)  This campground will be full of fair-goers and vendors, but the staff is reserving one particular section for our group.  The RV Park has Wi-Fi signal, and porta-potties, and showers available (but not exactly close by).  The address is:  800 W. Lisbon Street, Sandwich, IL 60548.  Please don’t post or share the location without also saying that advance reservations are required.

 

The cost per night for a campsite with electricity is $30 (including tax), plus there is a one-time “rally participation fee” of $8 to cover the costs of putting on the Rally.  Free use of the dump station is included.  Sites with hook-ups for water are limited, so if you don’t think you get by with using just your onboard water, let us know in advance, and bring a y-connector for splitting a water faucet to attach two hoses.

 

PLEASE NOTE:  We also each need to bring a 30-amp-to-15-amp adapter (RV plug to household plug), and a heavy-duty RV extension cord if possible, to be able to access the power outlets on the electric hook-up posts.

 

 

Now here is the Rally Schedule:

 

Thursday evening at 6:30p we will have a get-acquainted “Community Meal” rather than a potluck.  This means everybody brings their own dinner, but we'll all eat together.  We will also light a campfire afterwards.  The RV Park has requested that we use “presto logs” rather than firewood if possible, so please bring some if you can.

 

Friday morning starting at 9:30a we will have "Open House" for those that want to tour each other's RVs, and see what owners have done to personalize them.  This usually lasts for 2-3 hours and is always a highlight of our Rallies.

 

Afternoons each day are the time for visiting the Fair.

Regular adult admission is $10 per day.  Children age 6-12 are $6; age 5 and under are free.

Thursday is ‘Senior Day’ - Fair-goers age 55 and over are admitted for $6 before 5pm.

Friday is ‘Bargain Day’ - Everyone is admitted for $6 before 5pm.

Sunday - Everyone is admitted for $6 after 3pm.

There is a rule that dogs are not admitted at any time, except for service dogs.  However dogs are welcome at the RV Park.

 

The Fair has amusement rides and games, agricultural and livestock exhibits, vendors, roving entertainers, Lumberjack shows, as well as many scheduled performers (hammered dulcimer and others).   See the link below to the Fair Schedule.

 

Friday evening at 6:30p will have a true Potluck Dinner.  Bring a dish to share (and your own table service) -- we eat whatever food shows up.  A campfire will again follow.

 

Saturday morning from 10:00a to 12:00p we will gather for a "How-to" Session about Toyota RVs for anyone (new to RVing or otherwise), to answer questions about RV operation or maintenance or anything else.  Especially if you have been RVing for a while, come to share your expertise with others.

 

Saturday evening you can eat dinner on your own at the Fair, or come back to join those in the RV park for another Community Meal, where we will probably bring leftovers from the potluck!  Another campfire will follow.

 

At 12:00p Sunday we will line up our RVs after check-out to drive in a caravan about 9 miles to a nearby Pancake Restaurant for a group lunch.  (We’ll order and pay separately for our food.)  Click the link below to see the facebook page for the “Exquisite Skillet Pancake House.”  Their extensive menu includes more than just breakfast items.  The address is 1180 W US highway 34, Plano, IL 60545.

 

After lunch on Sunday we will say our goodbyes to those who are leaving until next year.  Those who want more “Fair Time” can return to the Fair to see the Auto Show that goes until 4:00p, and even stay an additional night.  Alternately those who like antiques can go to the “Olde Timers Antique Centre” in downtown Sandwich.

 

If all this sounds like lots of fun, please call us (not the RV Park) to say you want to be put on the list of attendees.  Then send us a payment (PayPal or check) for the number of nights you will be camping with us (3 or 4).  (We will give you the payment address when you call to reserve.)  We will be collecting payments in advance from everyone, and then paying for our group all at once.

 

The total payment for 3 days of camping (with electricity) is $98, including the rally participation fee.  Add another $30 if you want to stay until Monday, as likely several people will (= $128 total).  The reservation deadline for early-bird reservations is Sunday, August 22.  After that there is an additional late-registration fee of $10.

Cancellation Policy:  Refunds are available if another Toyota RVer takes over your campsite after you cancel.

 

As usual we expect about twenty Toyota RVs.  We can only take that number of RVs and that’s it.  (If you wait to call after we are full up, you will be put on a waiting list for last-minute cancellations.)
