WME
Isn't the 2 nut pin tapered on the truck side?? If its tapered it will only go in so far. Do the ball joints have grease fittings, or do you have to remove a plug and insert a zerk fitting?? If they have fittings installed then give then a shot of grease, if they are sealed just install them
hamkid
All of them have this fitting I had to screw on
Ctgriffi
Those are the Mevotech BJs, yeah? Grease em up.
hamkid
Yup mevotech. Do I just buy any grease gun from harbor freight with lithium grease?
Scott iv
I recommend finding a grease gun with a flexible hose. Easier to bend the tip into the different tight spaces. A few more bucks but worth it in my opinion.
WME
You have an air compressor, save yourself future aggravation and get an air powered grease gun. FWIW I use different grease for wheel bearings and ball joints. Might be old fashion these days.
hamkid
What brand of grease do you use for the wheel bearings?
WME
Just look for a 1lb tub that says Disc/Drum hi-temp bearing grease. Maybe... Lucas makes "Red n Tacky" it is great for ball joints and may work for bearings. Read the label. Also Lucas X-tra HD grease (green) Â
Maineah
Basically seen one you have seen them all. It is different than just plain grease.
hamkid
Bought this before I viewed the recommendation about getting the air powered gun. Should I return or just use it? Also, is the grease I bought with it ok it’s rated GC-LB ?
WME
Grease is good, grease gun is good, if you have enough hand strength. I don't.

hamkid
Does the shock get installed like this or does it need to be prepared somehow?
WME
Shock is OK, if your worried just go to your local auto parts store and buy a set of dust covers. Like$15-
hamkid
Not worried just curious why it is compressed. Will it decompress when it hits the road?

Will it decompress when it hits the road?  It's not compressed; that's the normal length. As you can see in your photo—basically same as what you pulled off. hamkid
I thought this had to decompress because the old one looks different. Is that just a cover on the old one? My bad. Edited January 12, 2021 by hamkid
MorboTheDMVclerk-DestroyerofDays
Yeah that's crazy they don't come with covers anymore. Most of the time the cover is just plastic and I just switch'em out with the new shocks

Maineah
What you need to do with the bearing grease is put a wad of it in the balm of your hand turn the bearing wide in force the wadded grease in to the bearing smearing it on every thing does not lube the bearing.
