  1. Does anyone know what a water heater unit would cost to replace, either new or a rebuilt one, or if used ones are okay a used one? It would be for a 1987 Minnie Winnie, thanks!
  2. I purchased a 1984 Toyota Dolphin. My question is why is there water coming out of what looks to be the combustion chamber of my hot water when I hooked up my water to shore? I am thinking that the previous owner may have let water freeze in it.
  3. Did ya know you can reinstall a water heater upside down... except when you go inside the cab, the old propane and water lines ain't right. Reinstalling mine after siding repair. Oh yeah. Time for a break.
  4. I am the proud but nearly defeated owner of a 1983 mini cruiser that was gifted to me by a dear friend. I live in it full time but it has a laundry list of issues and I can't even figure out where to start. Both tanks are cracked and leaking. The black tank ranks as hopeless. The water heater disintegrated. The cabover leaks like a sieve and is rotted through and through. The A/C drips water constantly when it runs. I don't even know if the (scary-looking) furnace or the stove work because we never got to pressure test the LP system. The repair guy who gave it a going over just shook his head and told me it would be best to wait until some of the other difficulties were tackled. Crazy as it seems, I love this thing even though I think it's trying to kill me. I have read through numerous posts here and am awed by your collective knowledge and mad repair skills. My budget says I can't pay someone to make magic happen and my pride says I can do it myself. But my voice of reason says I need help since I have no indoor work area and limited tools available. I have searched all kinds of places to find replacement tanks. There are none that match the dimensions on the original tanks. Is there a commonly used alternative? What size water heater do I need? I am inclined to think a Suburban or Atwood 6 gallon tank is appropriate but I have not had time to measure thoroughly. Do I need to replace the door to match the water heater brand or will the one that is there do the job? The electrical system is confounding to me in all kinds of ways. There are two sets of outlets - one black framed that only work with shore power, one set ivory framed that run from the battery. I set off the inverter (1800W, I believe but I'm not in front of it right now) immediately if I plug anything in that isn't a laptop charger, more or less. It's really frustrating. I have one coach battery that I replaced when I got the Eaglet last year. The one that was in it was cooking right under where I was sleeping. That was fun, too ;-) Where would you start with everything that needs to be done?
  5. Hey all, I figured maybe someone would find the info useful so I am posting this here. My 87 Escaper water heater ignitor wasn't working so I wanted to get that taken care of. The previous owner put it a new sparker itself, but the problem was in the board. I took the board off and googled the part number and found a few but they were priced at about $150. Upon further research I found a board made by Dinosaur electronics that was supposed to be compatible with my heater. It cost me $55 on Ebay. I had to trim down the rubber piece that covers the part that snaps onto the little sparker thing. I pulled the old board off and plugged everything into the new board and gave it a test. Upon nothing happening I figured maybe the problem was elsewhere, then it hit me! No literally, it shocked the heck out of me. So hey I was happy it worked! I just wasn't aware it had a built in delay. So for $55 bucks it was totally worth the fix and another thing crossed off of my list. Here's a video of it in action. Thanks for the read! Maybe this will help someone out with a similar issue.
  6. just got back from local mountains & used water heater for 1st time when heater tank fills up it leaks outside below heater compartment and leaks all the way down to right rear corner of rv.... we just finished bathroom re-model (except where 1/8th board covers up the plumbing along the wall)so I pulled up the 1/8th board that was at rear right corner & water is running from tank to right corner and leaking outside.... I'm going to replace heater what is my best option taking old heater tank out & replace or buy one of the "add-on water heaters" I want to be able to use propane to heat water I do lot of camping with hook-ups the only good thing is the water damage does not look that bad.....so far..
  7. Just came across a website with solar powered hot water heaters. It works with your existing hot water tank. also uses solar power for the pump that circulates the water in the loop from tank to panels. Of course there are other sources online for these panels, I will have to shop around before I buy. Now that is something I might actually have a use for as I am in the process of getting rid of propane appliances in my rig. I will have to find the money and save some roof space for it as part of next year's round of improvement projects. In the meantime I can keep my eye out for a very good sale price on the pieces. http://bhasolar.com/126.html
  8. OK, I have what I think is a dumb question. I bought my 1991 Warrior from a local dealer and they did the winterization. I picked it up yesterday and the tech who did the walk through told me to leave the plug out of the water heater because.... it's good for air to circulate. I've not seen anything anywhere that claims your water heater needs to be aired out and it seems to me it would be a very nice winter home for a family of mice. Is there anyone who thinks this is a good idea? CR
