  1. I recently leveled my 1985 Toyota Dolphin and am turning it into a flatbed truck. I am interested in swapping the 4 speed low geared tranny to one with a 5th gear for better fuel economy. I am hoping that it will be an easy project, but I've never worked with transmissions before. So far I've removed the entire motorhome down to the original framing, cut the frame just over 3 feet shorter (so it's now just over 16'), and fixed my tow hitch at the cut with some lag bolts. The vehicle is significantly lighter at this point and I'm thinking that I will get an increased fuel economy with a 5 speed transmission. I'd imagine the lower geared tranny is unnecessary at this point. I do not plan on doing much heavy hauling either. It was a 1985 Dolphin with a 1 ton dually axle. 22re engine with a 4 speed manual. Will this transmission swap be a worthwhile project? Can the job be done with minimal tranny experience (and having the mechanics book for this rig)? Will a 5 speed of the same year even fit properly or will I need some other parts to make it fit? Any advice I will greatly appreciate.
  2. When I purchased my 1987 Toyota Escaper made by Damon industries I found it had most of the original documentation. I was contacted via my blog (link in my signature) from someone asking if I could provide the manual since they are quite hard to find. I was surprised I haven't thought of this sooner since I am sure there are plenty of people that would love to see the factory documentation that came with the Toyota Escaper Micro mini motor home. I have scanned the entire manual and compressed it into a zip but it seems the forum will not allow my to upload a zip. Here is a short front and back piece showing options and what not. And here is the entire manual page by page. If I am not aloud to upload this much stuff please let me know! I am only trying to provide to the community
  3. I have a vintage 1990 Toyota Odyssey - WALL CLOCK - for sale removed carefully from the wall of the cabin. It's pretty nice-look at the photos. It is about 6" diameter, gold in color, and It takes a single AA battery. Anyone who is interested in restoring their Odyssey with a quite nice vintage 'Gold' color clock from an original Odyssey cabin may be interested. I think I can take any reasonable offer to make you a good deal. PS Because the rig has proven to need so much work to do on it-then I anticipated, I'm modying into a weekender rather than to restore it to its beutiful original condition. So, I'm renovating the cabin with a different color of fresh paint, stuff and things, new floor tile, etc. Someone who knows about 'restoration' and fixing things up like the original may be more interested in hanging the beautiful vintage 'gold' color Odyssey WALL CLOCK in their project.

So.....Ive had everything in my truck for over three weeks to change the rotor, distributor cap, plugs and wires. Wasn't really in a hurry as the truck was running "fine". Key word, fine. When I say drives good I mean that it drove good. Started in a nano second every single time, never a hesitation. Steady drive, no skips. This is what amazes me about Toyota. Ever searched your library using the words Toyota? Half of the books are about management practices. The way to do business. And it works. They build a fantastic product. Ok, im done pumping them up. Man what a difference the little "Red Emerald" runs now. Heck, Im hoping for a couple more miles to the gallon. Yeah, fat chance.
  5. I finally just said to heck with it and took off down the road on my first outing in "Red Emerald". I can't even begin to express how proud I am of the little Toyota motorhome. Not one single hitch what-so-ever. It was just and over nighter or weekender and I was using abundant caution and care. Watched my speed (below 60 mph) and monitored the tranny for any bad signs and didn't spot a single problem. So besides being a lot of fun and very comfortable it was also a big confidence builder too. Look forward to many more trips now. Here is a video: The Alltamaha WMA / Harris Neck NWR Road Trip

Went out to Tybee Island to do some beach metal detecting and just to chill out a bit. It's only February and the bikinis are already out. Crazy warm weather this time of year.

  10. I have been shopping around for an affordable Toyota motorhome for a while now and recently found one for $1800. The only major issue I know of is the roof has been damaged due to the owner running into an overhang. I am pretty competent when it comes to doing repairs, so I feel like this is a repair I could potentially do myself. My question is what kind of other things do I need to look for/ask about before buying a motorhome (this will be my first motorhome purchase), and does this sound like a reasonable price to pay given the damage it has. As of right now the only other info I have on it is it has a rebuilt 22R fuel injector motor, and manual transmission. I still need to find out how many miles, and if it has a generator. Sorry if I missed any major points, but i'm relatively new to the motorhome world.
