  1. My parents just recently bought a JDM camper to fulfill their traveling dreams! They are quite clueless when it comes to auto, research, and maintenance so they have tasked me to help them out. I accepted only to find out how rare and limited information is on this vehicle. I know its a factory 1991 2.0 2c diesel Town Ace coached by A'mcraft (a company that built a camper on it), however there seems to be many different engines used in this generation of the Town Ace (3rd). Around the 1990-93 the CM65 seemed to be used but I am still unsure. I would like to order a timing belt kit before the vehicle comes to my home. This is my first time trying a forum. Let's see how this goes...
  2. Hello! New to the forum and new to owning a Toyota RV... about five days new to be exact. I recently got a remote job that allows me to travel anywhere I can get internet (or even just a phone signal), so naturally my wife and I have been plotting to rent the house and hit the road. This past weekend we took a big step and pulled the trigger on a 1992 Toyota Coaster. It's a right hand drive, Japanese import with a 1H-DT, straight six diesel engine. I'm no mechanic and I'm a little concerned about finding parts down the road... but the bus is in amazing shape, with zero trace of rust (or wear anywhere really) with impressively low miles. I drove it home across Washington State and was super impressed. Anyways, I'd love to gain some knowledgable perspectives, tips for maintenance, things to watch out for... etc. etc. Cheers, Matt (and Missy)
  3. Hey everyone, been a lurker of these forums and the Yahoo forums for a handful of months now. I figured now is the time to introduce you all to my new purchase of a 1981 Sunrader diesel, 5-speed. I've been trying to find more resources for these diesels, but have come up pretty empty. This is the first ever diesel vehicle I've owned, as well as the first ever manual car I've ever owned. Here's a link to the auction with some photos and videos of it running. The previous owner bought it from a guy out in Iowa and it had to be trailered to his place in Maryland. I purchased it from him and he drove it about 4 hours to me. So far, I've replaced the batteries and purchased new tires for the rig. The one battery under the hood was 18 years old. So far I've replaced the two batteries with new ones, replaced the battery terminals, battery wires, and set up an appointment to get the tires and an inspection next week. This weekend, I'm giving it an oil change and using Shell Rotella 15W-40 heavy duty oil, cleaning out the entire inside, repairing the fiberglass shower floor, testing the propane system, test the house battery system, and other small items. Purchased this as a project vehicle and will be spending a good bit of time working on it and tuning it up over the next couple months. I have a few questions for you all - - Are there any useful posts/maintenance lists I should be aware of that is different for a diesel as opposed to a gasoline engine? - How should I mitigate the engine block rust? Is there a way to do this without taking out the engine and bathing/blasting it? - Is changing the transmission fluid something I can do on my own or should I leave it to the professionals? - Anyone reinsulate their Toy and have any tips? - Anything else that might be good to know or helpful? I'm looking forward to being an active member of this community and sharing with you all the transformation of this beauty. -Cory And now for the good stuff, some photos -
  4. Hi Toyotamotorhome campers. My '82 Mini Cruiser blew an exhaust gasket. A company called Remflex said they could custom-make 8 for $200. Are there any diesel owners out there with access to the gasket? The spare parts market is bereft and Toyota was not helpful.-jls
