  3. Yes the engines will turn some pretty good revs. I drive a 2011 Tacoma and pull a camper it has a 6 speed manual and a 3.56 diff with a combined weight of about 7,200# as long as the RPM were above 2200 it had no issue no matter what gear it was in. I drove my old Nova Star 22RE as I would a stick shift when it began to struggle I turned off the OD quite often shifted to 2nd range manually to keep it from up shifting on long hills. After awhile you begin to listen to what the engine is trying to tell you about where its happiest. I don't see any real need of making an engine turn faster than necessary to get the job done.
  4. Nova Star/New Horizon manual. 5. I agree with that but most people never have driven a stick. If you use O/D like shifting a manual there is no reason it can't be used. The transmission is a good bit smarter then one gives credit for. It will shift down if the revs don't match road speed yes lugging it will over heat it. Now on to the 5 speed you'll shift a lot and 5th maybe a bit of wishful thinking if your are not in Kansas but a lot more fun. I do doubt you'll ever see 20 MPG at highway speeds and it will be a push on back roads unless there are no hills. My Tacoma is a manual 6 speed (the Nova Star was one of a very few automatics I have ever owned) If you look around at other MH/camper sites 10-15 MPG is about it no matter what the camper is toy home to 5th wheels weight and wind resistance.
  6. Here is the combiner system I made for my Nova Star It is a Cole Hersee 48525 The device between the two circuit breakers is a push button that sets the adjustable timer board combining the two batteries to give the truck battery a boost if it was low (never had to use it)The breakers are manual reset if one tripped I wanted to know why not just to have it reset and do it all over again.
  7. I have an 87 New Horizon (Nova Star) and love it. When I bought mine it was a place for the owner of an apartment building to stay when he came up from Mass. to check out his apartment or do repairs and it was some dirty inside and out but it only had 28K on it. I had to replace everything that was plastic on the roof due to sunlight damage and over the 3 years I have owned it I have resealed everything on the top from the vents to the the A/C. Mine is all fiberglass and I would assume yours is too. The exterior was covered with black stains I went to the local boat shop and bought a cleaner for fiberglass boats that said it would remove even blood stains (I had to assume they meant fish blood). Well it did remove all the stains. They seem to be fairly rare you don't see many. I think they were expensive new. I would very much like a copy of your manual. I can't believe there is too much that changed between 87 and 88. I have had no problems other then normal wear and tear and as far as the truck they are all pretty much the same and they are mostly trouble free. You should have no real problems for the next 60,000 miles.
