  1. Just had rear axle replaced with full floater; came back and brakes have to really be pressed to get stopping... is this normal for 1 ton rear drums?

Sounds to me like the pads may have been exposed to moisture. Were they replaced with new ones? Were the drums inspected and cleaned? Go by a brake shop. And there shouldn't be any fluid, but instead a cable that engages the rear brakes.

The rear brakes may have to be adjusted (like once a year), the automatic adjusters tend to not work too well, but be careful not to over adjust them, rear drums will get hot. Also, be sure the prorational valve on the rear axle is adjusted to max, if it is not, less brake fluid goes to the rear brakes.

The 1 ton's do have hard pedal they stop fine just don't feel like it. I'll assume it's not mushy just feels like it's not doing much like bufbooth said make sure the proporsioning valve is adjusted to the max.
