  1. Riomaggs, Welcome! You’re looking for a Dolphin… Did you know that the Sea Breeze is also made by the same manufacturer? (National RV) I have an 89 Dolphin so I hope your not looking for an unbiased answer :-) I would look for the 89 or 90 models. In 91 they began to offer the new style. It was a plastic (of some sort) covers on the lower part of the RV. They look great! But after 22 years and a few bumps they might not… Replacing them is a huge task. The older ones are basic RV manufacturing and can easily be fixed or replaced. Also in 89 Toyota had an update on the truck part. New V6 engine, better transmission and the best cab too. Good Luck! Andrew.
  2. I think I can see where all the problems are coming from in this picture: Looks to me like the 14" vent. I am still dealing with my repair job in the same area. It turned out to be the roof supports in my roof were not flat anymore. That caused a lake to form on the roof whenever it rained. The first part that I noticed to leak was that TV antenna crank-up handel. From there it would "Flow" on the top of the interior panel to wherever... You can read more of what i am doing here:http://toyotamotorhome.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=4749 Good Luck! It's a big job but well worth it in the end. I think you did good buying this one. Andrew.
  3. That is horrible... I really feel for you. Good luck with this... Andrew.
  4. Great deal on a great RV ! Welcome to the forum. Andrew.
  5. I just did a quick google map search and found the height listed at 14' 9" ? were they doing work on it at the time? It looks plenty high enough ?? https://maps.google.ca/maps?q=3rd+Street,+Santa+Rosa,+CA,+United+States&hl=en&ll=38.438067,-122.717344&spn=0.001242,0.002747&sll=38.440467,-122.714431&sspn=0.157849,0.220757&oq=Santa+Rosa,+CA+3&hnear=3rd+St,+Santa+Rosa,+California,+United+States&t=m&z=19&layer=c&cbll=38.437967,-122.717047&panoid=NDTHJ2dYQbQwko58rvzBOg&cbp=12,58.34,,2,1.22&source=gplus-ogsb
  6. I have a 89 Dolphin, I think our roofs are the same. Really there is not much to them... From the inside-out 1st you have the 1/8 panel, then you have the wood frame, 1" X 1" wood with 1" (foam between) on the top it's 1/8 foam board then finally the aluminum covering... I used 1" X 2" aluminum channel to cure my saggy roof in the picture... Andrew.
  7. We use our old Garmin unit mounted on the windshield, never had a problem that i can remember... I'd love to hear more about the trip, travelling with a 5 month old is nice! i remember going up north to Kitimat, BC when our daughter was only 2 months old. Andrew.
  8. That's great that is is running better than ever now. My swap is a little delayed.... I keep getting promotions at work that keep me busy, and the kids are getting bigger and with that come lots of activities... It is really hard to justify the time to pull a 100% working engine out... :-) I have all the problems worked out now, the engine is sitting on a stand just waiting for me to install it. I am waiting on one last thing, the exhaust can be done a few ways, and I'm leaning towards the custom headers route... Precision 4X4 Center is working on making me a custom set so i can use it with the auto shiftier in our units. I will show it off once I have it in my hands! I don't think I will be able to make it to the Toy-in again this year, the roof project I am doing still need to be finished and don't think it can be finished in time. Cheers, Andrew
  9. Hi Wayne, I remember your RV from the Toy-in, it is very nice! I would follow along in the footsteps of a few people and do the engine swap. The Tacoma V6 engine bolts into your engine bay, you just need to worry about the exhaust, electrical, and hood clearance. There are shops that will do all of this for you for around $4,000 or you can do it your self if you’re good with a wrench for much less… Here is some light reading for you: http://toyotamotorhome.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=413 (Post # 24) http://www.yotatech.com/f160/superchiems-toyota-rv-5vz-swap-243241/ http://www.yotatech.com/f160/toyota-motorhome-3-0-swap-237494/ 2 of the shops that will do this swap for you: http://www.toyonlyswaps.com/ http://www.toyotafiberglass.com/ Local BC guy, very, very good! Andrew.
  10. Yes, you are right. Front mounted mechanical pump. It is driven by the camshaft. The pump has three hoses to/from it. one from the tank, another back to the tank and one to the carb. I had a problem on the one from the tank... the clamp was not clamping and the hose was worn yada yada... causing the fuel to drain back to the tank over a few days... when i would try and start it I don't remember it almost starting... I just remember it not starting until I primed it with gas again. This was in the mid to late 80's so my memory is working hard :-) I do remember that my fuel filter would be empty as well... that was easy to check, just remove it from the holder on the fender, it will be light and empty. Hope it helps! Andrew.
  11. I agree ! :-) -- Now i'm thirsty and i just started work... One other thing to look at here... I had a 1981 Toyota PU that did the same thing, it took me forever to find out that the fuel line had a small leak somewhere. I think it was on a clamp that was not squishing enough. Anyways, it was allowing the fuel to slowly drain back to the tank. When starting the pump did not have enough "pull" to get it back up from the tank so it would not start. I had to use gas that i poured directly into the carb to get it going. If i left it for more than a few days, I would have to do this every time. Andrew.

  13. SSC V06-1990 through early 1995 Truck, 4Runner, and T100 with 3VZ-E I would suggest to email Victor Camperi from Findlay Toyota. vcamperi@findlayauto.com He has helped many 3VZ owners find out if they qualify for the recall or not. He is very easy to deal with and does not mind looking it up for you. Go to TundraSolutions thread on the recall ( http://www.tundrasolutions.com/forums/4runner/32512-4runner-head-gasket-recall/ ) EDIT: I just checked the TS forum... For information regarding recall status on your vehicle, please contact Toyota Customer Service at 1-800-331-4331. Mustang [Victor] has informed me he is no longer able to search random vehicle queries. This thread is now closed. Andrew.
  14. Please take lots of pictures when you are doing this and keep us updated as you go. Do you know about this one: http://www.supracharged.com/swaps/87rv/index.shtml Also this site? http://www.lextreme.com/forums/index.php There was a guy on here a while ago that offered the mounts for $150, not sure if I can dig up his post I will see... A. EDIT: Here is a post from yotatech on the mounts: http://www.yotatech.com/f161/1uzfe-239224/ (Post # 6) I'd love to have your wire harness for the trans if you will cut it out and ship it me (98230) Here is a quick youtube of a 2UZ in a truck... Andrew.
  15. Nope, your link was to a google picture search with noting to to with a Toyota 14" dually rim... Please if I am missing it I would live to know... I'm hoping you actually have knowledge on this... Yes, mine are steel. just like the ones pictured above, but I do not have the fancy stainless steel wheel covers pictured... I believe Toyota never made a 14" aluminum dually rim, again i hope I am wrong, I'd love to get a set to replace my steel ones... You being in the auto business, must know more than me i am hoping here... I have been looking for a very long time all across the world, found some fancy ones in Japan, but they would not work, I'd just love to see the ones you say are around on all of them.... Can you post up one picture... ?
  16. Same as all stock Toyota ones... Can you post up a picture of the "aluminum wheels they usually have"?
  17. Hi Rick. I'm also a long time Toyota owner, when i was looking I did not single out any brands. I wanted a Winnebago, but was open to all the models. Look for the one that is in the best shape. Be read to pounce, when it comes up for sale, if it is a good deal and in good shape it will sell fast... I like the V6. 89 (Truck year) and on have the V6. Like all toyota stuff, newer is generally better... whit that model change you have the better auto trans, full 1 ton chassis, largest cab, likely factory CC (I have seen some without) and the 3-VZ V6 engine. Not the best engine Toyota has ever made, but still a Toyota engine. I have only ever owned the V6 RV so i can't tell you the difference, but i personally would think the 4cly is under powered for the weight. It was under powered in my 1990 4Runner! I did own a 85 4Runner too, (I really miss that one) Auto is not too bad, I have always been a stick person, but now have no problem with the auto... I guess it is no big deal for me, but it is personal choice. It is going to be much harder to find a 5-speed in the newer style. (i have seen them though, so if it is what you want, you can get it) As for performance upgrades for the V6... Not really, this engine does not respond well to most things. even if you were to dump a wack of cash into it, it will still not make much more power... just the basics, make it breath better, air filter and exhaust... no headers available for the auto version (column shift) But if you did have the V6, swapping to the newer (Much better designed) 5VZE is a project that has been done by a few people. (i hope to do this some time soon too!) Good luck and welcome to the group! :-) Andrew.
  18. I'm 41, and the wife is holding at 21. Kids are 3 & 5 now.
  19. but that 27 spline 5 bolt pattern (if it will work for your existing 78 drive shaft) will work on the 87 3rd you have;or am I missing a reason you want to use the 78 one?
