I need a motorhome within a month. This time of year toyotas are very slim pickings and the ones that don't sell in 10 minutes are outrageously priced. However there is a vast amount of decent motorhomes under 3k that are fords or dodges. Does anyone have some input on a non toyota motorhome? Do you know of any fiberglass shells like the sunrader but made on a ford or dodge chassis?

Thanks so much!

Yes I am in salem area. Some of those are neat, how did you find them, did you just search for fiberglass? The dodge, ford, and chevy's make me nervous because of automatic transmissions. It seems the for american cars they cannot seem to get the transmission right, they are the first to go. It's another reason i'm hoping someday to find a manual transmission. You all are very helpful, thanks a lot. I feel stupid, last winter I could have got some decent deals on a sunrader, but things changed, now the nice weather makes me want one now :) HAH

Me and my wife are planning a thrifting trip. We will stop at thrift stores and hope to find enough goods to pay for our gas :) So the smaller the better to fit into small parking spaces.

I was actually going to consider a Chinook, but the lack of bathroom or shower facilities is a problem for us.

The Transvan RVs on Dodge running gear came with fiberglass shells and they often go cheap. I'm not sure what year they were made up into. Dodge running gear, dually rear, HD Torque-Fite trans and a 318 or 360 gas V8. When it comes to heavy trucks and RVS, the Mopar Torque Flites, Ford C6s, and the GM TH400s are very rugged.

My neighbor has an early 80s Transvan parked at my farm. He drove it up here from Florida and left it. He comes up in the summer and uses it. He got 16 MPG on the trip from Punta Gorda to here in Central NY. That kind of fuel mileage is pretty impressive for an RV with a 360 V8 and an auto-trans with no OD or lockup torque-converter. I used to have a 1973 Class A 21 foot Champion with a 318 V8 and it only got 7 MPG.

Here's one example of the "hardshell" Tranvan and they can be found cheaper.
