emilies
Every time we stop for gas we have to use a funnel and a tube to get it to fill... It takes like 20 minutes. The tank has dropped or shifted. A couple mechanics say they are afraid to work with it for fear of making a bigger problem (tearing the metal?). They do say there is no problem in the Main frame of the vehicle. Has anyone else had issues like this?
Skydancer2992
There's a vent line located next to the filler hose. Bugs tend to make nests in that line. The back pressure from filling the tank no longer goes out the vent and tends to activate in the sensor on the gas station's pump. Try using a pipe cleaner (like a fuzzy wire for cleaning smoking pipes but now seems to be prevalent in arts & crafts circles) to clean the vent line. WME
What happens a lot is the vent line will develop a sag. If it does the low spot fills with gas and won't let the tank vent. Check you vent line and make sure it runs up hill all the way to the filler.
Bob C
I had this same problem when I tried to "top Off" my tank to get every drop possible into the tank. Next time I filled up, it took forever to get gas into it. I found that my vent hose was filled with fuel and could not vent air as intended. I found that if I crawled under the RV and pushed up on the vent hose, it let the gas drain into the tank and then it worked right. Now I don't top off the tank. As WME said, mine had developed a sag which I should fix but will deal with by not topping off.
magic princess
I had a problem where I went to fill gas at new gas stations and I couldn't get gas to pump into tank...the handle release would trigger...luckily was across street from advance and they told me to go to a full service gas station to fill...well full service guy filled it up no problem...I asked him what he did and he said he fills it with nozzle upside down...worked like a charm...I have helped a lot of people with this solution at gas stations...they get so happy!
