mtdave2
Finally got around to doing some work on the rv. built the bracket for the spare, all I have to do is weld it in between the frames. not too bad for an hours work, but not holding my breath until it is installed and working. I did have to extend the size of the piece that fits in the hole, was a bit too small for my liking.
jjrbus
You do some interesting projects. I can't do this one, there is no room under mine for a spare! How is the generator and AC working out? Jim

I have come across many a car with a cable-winch and the spare fell out without the owner ever realizing it. Not until the spare was needed and it was discovered it was long gone. That because the cable rusted and broke. Perhaps not a big issue on a RV that does not see a lot of salt? Here in northern Michigan, many roads are salted all summer long so it is hard to avoid. At least the OEM Toyota winch used a chain instead of a cable. By the way, I am also a proud victim of a lost spare on my Chevy S10. I put a new winch on it when I got it and figured I was safe. 5-6 years later - I got a flat and then found no spare. Just a frayed, rusted, broken cable. mtdave2
Well that is a good warning. I had some threaded bar, so why not add a backup? should hold it in place with a nut and washer. one more step to remove but not that big of a deal. Ill remember to shoot some wd40 or somethig in the cable housing when I rotate the tires. Edited August 17, 2016 by mtdave2

Jim having the same issue as you with the heat. the elevation is killing me as well! used it a few times with both gens running and the back door open, worked great. no time to fiddle with it...perhaps soon. I am half thinking of just getting a 3k unit and making a cage for it and call it good. Edited August 17, 2016 by mtdave2

I am half thinking of just getting a 3k unit and making a cage for it and call it good. It took some doing but I think I have beat the heat. The trick to it is separating the intake and exhaust air. I stumbled through this and got off on some tangents. My new genset will now run without fans without getting too hot. Today anyway. I would not trust it and added a 7" fan with speed control and I think I may be OK. Time will tell If I wanted to go for a larger gen I would look for a used Honda 3000 or go with a refurbished champion for $
