Allan
I saw this nifty item but the shipping costs from Australia are cost prohibitive. Anyone know of a domestic source or comparable item? http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/LION-LA535E-PORTABLE-EVAPORATIVE-AIR-COOLER-WITH-2-SPEED-FAN-/272006314349?hash=item3f54d6f96d
5Toyota
not familiar with that one but there is a company that makes a 12 volt roof mount fits in a vent hole runs off rv water tank not cheap. I don't recall brand I think linda has one . I have seen one on a camper a friend bought
kgibson4
We have one of these: http://turbokool.com/ In our 22ft Odyssey at 100+ it will keep it livable but not cold. We have 200 watts of solar which is more than enough to run it on high through the heat of the day. It does use some water but we have never had a problem with just a 17 or 18 gal. fresh water tank over a couple of days. We prefer to operate solely on 12 volt, so this works well for us. However, we live in the desert southwest. Swamp coolers are not good for humid climates. Also we didn't pay that price. Shop around.

I am curious on this; As I am staring down a new AC that can be run off a generator and this one does not seem to need a generator; lets say I am in Kentucky in July. I think it was 98 and like very humid; would this cooler even work at all?

I'd say unless you could use it in drier climates, a vent fan would be much cheaper. It does install easily over an existing roof vent. 5Toyota
s wamp coolers work in hot dry low humid climates. not good in high humid places. thanks I did not recall the company . but at 600 cheaper then a new roof air unit. lot of home swampers in use in the hot dry eastern Washington climate. Allan
Central Washington is desert with low humidity. The little unit I'm eyeing you would have to sit right in front of and keep refilling. But it would likely suit me well. I just can't find anything like it domestically. linda s
This company has been selling little 12 volt swamp coolers for a long time. http://www.swampy.net/ Lots of plans to make your own on the internet too. https://www.google.com/#q=DIY+12+volt+swamp+cooler The Turbo Kool is a nice unit but the reservoir tends to leak when on rough roads. Really needs to be emptied before travel. It costs almost as much as a regular AC unit too Linda S
Allan
If money were no object I would go for the turbo kool for sure. Hey Linda, aren't you in my corner of the states?
linda s
If money were no object I would go for the turbo kool for sure. Hey Linda, aren't you in my corner of the states? I'm in northern California and the only cooling I have in my camper is a low tech evaporative set up I can throw together from stuff I always keep in my camper. kgibson4
The Turbo Kool is a nice unit but the reservoir tends to leak when on rough roads. Really needs to be emptied before travel. I think the Turbokool people have improved this aspect by adding a baffle/cover over the reservoir. We have never had to empty our cooler even though we travel paved and dirt roads. Off-roading might be a different story. Ours is just a typical Toyhome; we've had no trouble with this.
