washedlikeadish
So.... RV repairman says our Onan Microlite 2.8 GENSET needs a new carb. Generator runs but has a pattern of fast then slow then fast then slow. Anything we can do about it instead of buying a new carb? We have it in our 1986 Toyota Odyssey we love! Ace57
Try spraying some carb cleaner in it when it's running.
Milt
Take the Carb off and soak it in carb cleaner over night, then use a air hose to blow out the holes, most of the time it's a sticky float from gum build up. any event really no need for a new one. Worked on all my motorcycles i ever had, should work for the Gen as well. Might need a new gasket is all, maybe not, depends on the condition. 5Toyota
seems none of those shop guys want to rebuild or don't know how to anymore just sell you a brand new one . seen the same problem with lawn mowers. only the old timers will rebuild it. shop kids don't care bill you the big money for a new one. WME
There are NO rebuild kits for Onan carbs. ONAN say buy a new one, not the local rv shop.
Maineah
The carb has an " altitude" adjustment you may try tweaking that it's on the bottom of the carb there is only a small range of adjustment unless you kind of defeat it but that may help you smooth it out my guess it's too lean. There is a large screw don't disturb that is the governor speed adjust.
shibs
my 2 hp Honda outboard has issues dying on me at WOT, some guys at the spoonplugger club suggested SEAFOAM, I have not tried it, but something you can try, I read good things about it.
