mobilehippo
Hello, I am planning on driving down from Eastern OR to SF, CA for a wedding with my 17ft Toyota RV. I've done a few trips now in WA, ID and OR but this is my first one into CA. I wanted to get some recommendations on places to go. I was thinking Crater Lake, Redwood Forest, Highway 1 and possible go out east towards Yosemite after the wedding. Does anyone have any advice about places to stay, things to go see, etc? I plan to do 4 hour drives and stop. I know there are some restrictions also on vehicle sizes on highways, if anyone might be able to help point those out for me would be great! Thank you! Totem
If I ever rv in Cali the redwoods would be #1 on my list of desired things to see. Namely because there are only so many of them and I dont trust the BLM etc to keep good care of them. They are a great example of what the EPA should be protecting, not sea gulls from windmills. If you take the highway along Rouge River and then go down the coast you will have a very interesting drive.
linda s
Definitely stay on 199 from Grants Pass and don't try to follow the Rogue river too closely. Some of those back roads are very dangerous. 199 is a safe nice but beautiful road. There a Big Cat sanctuary near Cave Junction and lots of campgrounds everywhere. This time of year it won't be crowded anywhere. Google casino's along the way. Almost all of them will let you park overnight for nothing. Good food cheap too. Wapiti
Lassen National park is like a mini yellowstone in northern california. amazing trails to hike and no one is ever there. MontanaChinook
Crater lake is cool. I went there when I spent 2 weeks in Bend last summer. Yosemite is cool. I took Tioga Pass this last summer. Really pretty. The Redwoods are cool. Especially the smaller parks. Highway 1 is kinda rough. Extremely windy, to the point where it's not fun in an RV. You're turning so much, you'll only be able to go 15-20mph, and between watching the curves and watching out for bikes, you won't see a bit of the ocean. That's just my experience, though; you can try it for yourself.
