I would like to replace my ugly brake/tail/reverse light box with a new led one
would like to keep same size or close so holes are covered up
mine are 20"Lx5"W
any one have a good link for a led bar around that size that is a quick install (using existing wires)
thanks
Steve

Your tail lights are the old Bargman 1400's. Nothing made today is quite so long. Closest is the Bargman 84 series triple long but it's a recessed light and needs a hole. I have never seen the 1400's surface mounted before. If your going to paint anyway filling a few holes isn't a big deal. I'd say your light options are wide open since you've got to make some changes anyway. I'd look for surface mount and pick from there.

yeah it should not be hard to patch the holes

and my options are wide open:)

I will update pics hopefully back of rv will be painted asap so it will look nice and clean

the price is right at $43 for pair

should be an easy install :)

They are very nice looking. Can't wait to see a photo of them installed on your rig. I do want to replace my tail lights next year. I have a different opening size but that can be worked around. I have to make a custom base anyway as my 1980 Sunrader does not have a flat surface to mount the lights on. Even the original lights used on it don't fit properly without 3 layers of black butyl tape at the outside edges.

The ones I have now do not have reflectors

in California not sure of laws

Are 'yours' legal without a reflector incorporated? (Unless you plan to add one?)

These have a reflector included:-

Refractors is closer to the meaning but they do call them reflectors. See on the plastic covers of your old ones there is a circular mold in the middle. It's to refract the light coming out of the bulb supposedly to make it easier to see. I don't know if they are required for LCD lights but can't hurt to check first. You know if California can make anything illegal they will. I think it's state law. All things are illegal until you have paid through the nose. Oops, through the nose is always illegal

I've never heard reflectors called refractors. :o

Well they aren't really reflecting the light are they. They are the cover on the tail light so it's just refracting the light coming out of them. I can't imagine him have problems with the lights he chose to tell you the truth. Or are we talking about two different things

good job they look nice!!

I replaced mine with these. The top set of lights I drilled circles into diamond plate. The bumper lights I bought a set of already manufactured light boxes and had them powder coated.

If I'm not mistaken, it's a FMVSS/DOT requirement (Federal) to have rear reflectors.

http://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/regulations/title49/section/393.11

http://www.tc.gc.ca/eng/motorvehiclesafety/tp-tp14116-menu-175.htm

What we appear to have is a legal requirement to have 'reflex reflectors' installed.

Hi there. Just got one light in on my 86 Sunrader.

I got the Bargman triple LED on a horizontal mount.

Then got a frame for them cut with specific cut out dimensions Went with black Plexi from Tap Plastics. I called in the dimensions and they had them ready the next day.

I'm pretty stoked with the results.

Looks much better than the original white surround. Tap Plastics, great company, we are lucky to have them on the west coast.

Yea, DO NOT circle bin the old reflect-o-lites. They are worth their weight in gold as the triples have not been made for the past 15 YEARS and all of the NOS are long gone everywhere.

Not sure how I missed this thread........

I did a rebuild on the old reflect-o-lites on my 1981 and used LED bulbs inside of the originals. I had the triple SURFACE mounts which have been out of production for OVER 20 years. Had to cannibalize 2 dual light NOS reflect-o-lites to get mine working again

On my 1991 Sunrader I kept the stock Bargman triples but rewired everything like I did on the 81 diesel with twin brake/park lights and a center turn. Moved the backup lights to the poo bumper using trailer light housings

BEST thing I ever did for rear visibility to others on the road
