'86 Granville Stove Top

Recommended Posts

I've had my toy 2 years - interior was like new - I rebuilt furnace, transmission, added Hot Shot water heater, propane alert, waterproofed vents, replaced water and sewage release valves, fuses, and propane fill valve, and so much more (tune up, pressure test, radiator cap, wiper blades, brake pads, plugs, wires, fuses, added shower curtain, radio, etc).

Stove top was so bent and noisy (I couldn't straighten it) I took it out. It's a Travler (?spelling?). Burners and stove work fine. I can make new stove top with burner openings but wonder whether anyone has inserted stove top with burners or replaced entire unit?

My CPA son was an AF jet mechanic for years in 80s (and put specialty instruments in Cobra HCs), so he can literally fix anything, but am curious as to others' take on stove issue.

This is my first post, so thanks in advance. I've been reading these boards for years and the help offered has been invaluable.

It's an oven with burners on top. Top plate covering burners was bent. I can make a new one. However, I was wondering whether a stove top would fit over present burners built into top of range. There are no stove tops available locally to measure, and even so, I don't know whether one would fit on top. Gas could be re-routed to new stove top if it would fit, a reasonably priced solution. Present stove unit with burners on top is old, so I could replace whole thing but more expensive.

I see used rv stoves all the time on craigslist. usually about a 100 bucks. Some of them look like new. Shop around. Look for stoves, rv's parting out or just parts by owner. If they have a lot of parts sometimes there's just a pic to figure out they have a stove. Or sometimes they call it a range

might find a good top in auto yard in my town they often have old campers also. you have a cook stove or range . A burner top only is comenly known as a cook top.

They have what is know as a slide in it is only burners the other is a range with an oven they don't come apart. You might check an RV dealer they may have take outs from some one's upgrade.

No because you would not have room for it. Usually the slide in's had cabinets under them. You could remove the entire stove and put a plywood top in where the stove was and install one of these http://www.dyersonline.com/rv-appliances/ranges-cooktops/cooktops/drop-in.html Or a replacement for the cover http://www.dyersonline.com/rv-appliances/ranges-cooktops/covers.html I'm still a little confused as to what is broken picture maybe?

I looked today again. The actual piece that was bent so badly was the actual top of the stove unit that the burner grates sat on. The burners were not affected. I'm calling the parts that go over the burners the grates. That piece can be replaced and the grates can be put back with something to sit on. No biggie to cut to size, and it just covers the hole. However, Camco part would cover completed repair and grates and provide counter space. I was working from memory and it wasn't clear in my mind.

Thanks again for helpful tips anyway.
