Lee & Joan
Here is a 3500 watt generator head that bolts to a typical 6 Hp engine for $200 http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200395476_200395476&issearch=1659200 My Kohler engine runs but does not make electricity Wanting to keep the electric start function of the Kohler engine I am wondering if this would replace the generator part? This NorthStar™ 3000 Watt generator head is designed as a replacement for portable electric generators that are powered by a 6 HP gas engine and require a J609A engine adaption. Brushless generator heads are proven to be superior in efficiency, performance and lifespan compared to brush-style generator heads. Features + Benefits Brushless design with high quality copper windings
25 Amps @ 120V; 12.5 Amps @ 240V SAE J609A engine adaption
3 5/8in. bolt hole circle with 4 mounting holes 45° off vertical 1.625in. center pilot
25/32in. engine shaft diameter x 2 53/64in. shaft length with taper of 2.25in./ft. Includes generic wiring harness
Will fit Honda GC160VHA, GC160VXA, GX160VX and GX160VXW engines Fits engine Item#s 605941, 605921
Fits generator Item# 165912 May fit many U.S. manufactured generators with Briggs & Stratton, Kohler, Tecumseh or Honda engines

So if the old Kohler engine has the same tapper and diameter it will at least fit the crank, guess there is no way of knowing it will work with out taking it all apart and being an electrical part there is probably no returns if it does not fit.
