mmtoy
I just got this 87 sunrader with firestone airbag system it has a compressor that starts when you start the truck and it pumps up the air bags and raises the camper up. Inside the camper are two gauges and thsy read 80 psi when the compressor stops, on these gauges are valves and you can let air out of either side to level the camper. Also on the side of the home is a valve and you can air them up from an outside source of air. When the truck is off the air drains down and the process starts over next time you start it up. Can anyone tell me about the operation of these are they to be used to level the camper when traveling down the road or when parked. If parked you can level it but after a while the air leaks out so it defeats the purpose. Is it suppose to hold the air does it need repair. If anyone has this system I would like to know what you know about it. mm
WME
Sounds like you have a small leak in something. My air bags will hold correct pressure all summer. Start checking all the fittings with some soapy water.
turtle
They are used as load carrying devices in place of additional springs. You can use them to level your unit when parked by letting the air out of one or both but when driving you should not touch the air pressure to avoid the camper from shifting. As mentioned previously if the air goes out when you turn off you have a leak. 90% of the time the leak will be in the air line, either a coupling/fitting or a worn or burned line. The bags can be replaced as single units if you find that the leak is in one of the rubber lift bags. Just like with any leak get a spray bottle with soapy water and start squirting the couplings then move on until you find the leak.
mmtoy
thanks do you know what the correct pressure is for these bags.
turtle
There is no "correct" pressure. There is a minimum (5 psi) and maximum (100 psi) recommended preasure. http://www.fsip.com/riderite/products/rrinfo.shtml You should set the pressure somewhere between these 2 numbers so that you have adequate rear clearance/lift and a firm but comfortable ride. WME
I adjust the air pressure on mine until it sits about 1' tail high, helps with some drive ways. It still handles good.
turtle
I adjust the air pressure on mine until it sits about 1' tail high, helps with some drive ways. It still handles good. Speaking of drive ways. I ended up with an extra pair of skid wheels. http://www.toymike.com/forSale/skidWheels1.jpg http://www.toymike.com/forSale/skidWheels2.jpg Any interest in these before I offer them to everyone? They are 4" x 2" Paktron http://www.pakindustries.com/skid_wheels.html They are used but they look like they have never hit the ground (no scuffs on the green urethane). $55 + shipping takes them
