AmyDC
Hi All! So my Sunrader came with an awning, however I can't for the life of me figure out how it works.... Can anyone help me/explain how in the heck it operates? I'm at a loss. Thanks!
Maineah
I believe you have a free standing awning it does not have postes like most, have a close at the ends probably by the door it should have a ring looking thing that a hand crank fits in you turn that to extend the awning. If you have some sort of pole you have no idea what it's for in the camper that's probably what what turns it.
AmyDC
Appreciate the advice, Maineah! I took a look this morning and couldn't find any hand cranks anywhere in the rig. Nor do I see anywhere on the awning where a hand crank would attach... There are 2 little circular tubes (one on each end), but they're really really teeny - like the size of a pinky nail. I took some close up pics (see attached) this morning of the awning and see it says it is an A&E Systems awning - which I researched - and it seems to be a Dometic awning? Perhaps they were bought out by Dometic? No idea. Anywho, I'm still stumped here on how to operate. Regardless, I'll need to take the awning down (hopefully only temporarily), as I noticed some issues with the screws causing fiberglass stress cracks as well as I found past water intrusion from a few of the screws on the inside of the rig. Ideally, I'd like to identify this model of awning so I can locate a proper operations manual for it. Does anyone have this type of awning? Maineah
A&E did make a powered awning have a look inside for some controls I have no idea where to start looking though. When they were deployed there was a big "X" frame work that supported it.
linda s
Those finger nail sized things on the end are probably your awning locks. Look how skinny the rods to unlock them are https://www.google.com/search?biw=1093&bih=498&sxsrf=ACYBGNQWXXaD9IbEBzbu5mdchmabP3LutQ%3A1569454576375&ei=8PmLXZvBFoLYsAWwiLmwBw&q=a%26e+awning+rod&oq=a%26e+awning+rod&gs_l=psy-ab.3..33i160.48362.54061..55413...0.2..0.181.1229.0j8......0....1..gws-wiz.......0i71j0i7i30j0i8i7i30j0i67j0j0i20i263j0i22i30.TOAQMvM8Svw&ved=0ahUKEwib-Y_0ke3kAhUCLKwKHTBEDnYQ4dUDCAo&uact=5 Try taking a screwdriver and see if you can release them by turning counter clockwise. There should also be a hole somewhere in the middle to stick the rod in and pull the awning out. I see no arm holders on the outside of your camper so once pulled out look for arms that come down from the assembly and support the awning from the ground like tent poles. If that doesn't work go to an RV place and ask for help. If you talk about all the other stuff your going to need to order soon they probably won't charge you anything Linda S
AmyDC
Appreciate the suggestions, Linda! I'll try the screwdriver method this weekend and if it doesn't work, I'll give the RV place idea a go. Thanks!! 😃
